## How to make Claude Code replies easier to scan and act on with Attention Control

Repo: [aaddrick/attention-control](https://github.com/aaddrick/attention-control) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Install the plugin and pick the Attention Control output style for every session.

**Who it is for:** A developer with ADHD who loses the thread in long agent answers.

**The problem:** Verbose agent output buries the one thing you need to do next.

**The outcome:** Agent replies that follow a disciplined, structured style.

### Steps

1. Run `claude plugin marketplace add aaddrick/attention-control`
2. Run `claude plugin install attention-control@attention-control`
3. Run /config, choose Output style, and pick Attention Control
4. Start a new session or /clear

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Install aaddrick/attention-control and enable it as the Claude Code output style. Ask a multi-part question and confirm the reply follows the style after /clear.
```

### Caveat

The style applies only after /clear or the next session.

## How to use the same reply discipline in Codex with Attention Control

Repo: [aaddrick/attention-control](https://github.com/aaddrick/attention-control) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Install the rules as a Codex skill since Codex has no output style slot.

**Who it is for:** A Codex user who wants terse, structured replies.

**The problem:** Codex replies can sprawl without a style setting.

**The outcome:** Codex threads that follow Attention Control rules when the skill is invoked.

### Steps

1. Run `codex plugin marketplace add aaddrick/attention-control --ref main`
2. Run `codex plugin add attention-control@attention-control`
3. Start a new thread
4. Type $Attention Control:Attention Control

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Install attention-control in Codex, invoke $attention-control:attention-control in a new thread, and ask <question>. Confirm the reply follows the style.
```

### Caveat

In Codex it must be invoked per thread as a skill.

## How to try the style for one session, then turn it off with Attention Control

Repo: [aaddrick/attention-control](https://github.com/aaddrick/attention-control) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use the bundled skill for a single session and say stop to turn it off.

**Who it is for:** A developer curious whether structured replies help before changing settings.

**The problem:** Changing global settings to test a style is a commitment.

**The outcome:** A one-session trial with an easy off switch.

### Steps

1. Install the Claude Code plugin
2. Run `/attention-control:attention-control` in a session
3. Work as usual
4. Say stop attention control to turn it off

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Enable attention-control for this session only with `/attention-control:attention-control`, answer <question>, then turn it off. Confirm later replies return to normal.
```

### Caveat

To make it permanent, add outputStyle as a top-level key in ~/.claude/settings.json.
