# AI use cases for Fastbrowse (agent-labs-dev/fastbrowse)

Repo: [agent-labs-dev/fastbrowse](https://github.com/agent-labs-dev/fastbrowse) | Use cases: 4 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/agent-labs-dev-fastbrowse/

fastbrowse is a Python browser agent where a choice model picks each action from the controls on a page, and answers come back with verbatim quotes from that page.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to get a cited answer from a live web page with Fastbrowse

Repo: [agent-labs-dev/fastbrowse](https://github.com/agent-labs-dev/fastbrowse) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Ask a question about a web page and get an answer where each claim quotes the page.

**Who it is for:** A researcher or analyst who needs a checked answer from a live web page and must show where each fact came from.

**The problem:** Reading a page by hand takes time, and it is hard to prove which text supports each fact.

**The outcome:** A short answer in which each factual claim carries a verbatim quote from the page, with the step count and cost of the run.

### Steps

1. `uv tool install fastbrowse`
2. `export OPENROUTER_API_KEY=...`
3. `export BROWSER_USE_API_KEY=...`
4. `uvx fastbrowse "What is the title of the top story right now?" --start https://news.ycombinator.com/`
5. Add `--json` to the same command to print every step and the quotes behind the answer.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Use the fastbrowse repo to answer <question> about the page at <start URL>. Run `uvx fastbrowse "<question>" --start <start URL> --json` and return the answer with its quotes. Verify that each factual claim in the answer matches a quote from the page.
```

### Caveat

Default runs use a Browser Use Cloud browser and paid model calls, so each run has a cost and a bounded run needs --max-steps or --max-dollars.

## How to log in from a Bitwarden vault and stop before submitting with Fastbrowse

Repo: [agent-labs-dev/fastbrowse](https://github.com/agent-labs-dev/fastbrowse) | Difficulty: Advanced | Time: 60 minutes | Basis: From the README

Fill a login form from a vault item, then pause for confirmation before any submit.

**Who it is for:** An operator who must sign into a web service with a stored password and wants a human to approve any form submission.

**The problem:** Pasting a password into an agent prompt exposes it, and a browser agent can submit changes without a review step.

**The outcome:** The login fields are filled from the vault on the start origin only, and the run stops at needs_confirmation before any submit, unless --authorize is given.

### Steps

1. Install and unlock the Bitwarden CLI, then run `export BW_SESSION="$(bw unlock --raw)"`
2. Run `uv run fastbrowse "<task>" --start <start URL> --bitwarden <vault item name>` without `--authorize` (inferred, check the README)
3. Read the result: a run that reaches needs_confirmation has not submitted anything
4. Add `--authorize` only after you have checked the planned submit

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Use the fastbrowse repo to sign into <start URL> with the Bitwarden item <vault item name> and report the page the run stops on. Run `uv run fastbrowse "<task>" --start <start URL> --bitwarden <vault item name>` without --authorize. Verify the result reports needs_confirmation and that no submit happened.
```

### Caveat

The item's saved URIs must match --start, so a login stored under another address will not be used at all.

Risk, credentials: The vault login's username, password and any one-time code are typed into the page, so a vault item saved with the wrong URI or a shared machine can expose them.

## How to add items to a cart in a profile that stays signed in with Fastbrowse

Repo: [agent-labs-dev/fastbrowse](https://github.com/agent-labs-dev/fastbrowse) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Reuse a Chrome profile that is already signed in to run cart tasks without a password.

**Who it is for:** A shopper or buyer who repeats the same cart task on a site they already use and wants to avoid signing in each time.

**The problem:** Each run in a fresh browser needs a login, and the login step breaks repeated tasks.

**The outcome:** A run that opens the saved profile, works on the signed-in account and reports what it did, with the profile kept on disk between runs.

### Steps

1. `google-chrome --user-data-dir="$HOME/.fastbrowse/amazon" https://www.amazon.com/` and sign in, then close Chrome
2. `uv run fastbrowse "Add a UGREEN USB-A to USB-C cable, 2m, to my cart." --start https://www.amazon.com/ --profile ~/.fastbrowse/amazon --headed` (inferred, check the README)
3. Drop `--headed` once the profile is signed in, so the run is headless and opens no window
4. Check the cart page in the same profile to confirm the item was added (inferred, check the README)

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Use the fastbrowse repo to add <item> to the cart on <site URL> using the profile at <profile dir>. Run `uv run fastbrowse "<task>" --start <site URL> --profile <profile dir>` and report the status and cost. Verify the item appears in the cart in that profile.
```

### Caveat

The profile is local to one machine, so a cloud browser needs the separate --cloud-profile setup on the Browser Use Cloud account instead.

Risk, credentials: The profile directory holds session cookies for the signed-in account, so anyone who can read that directory can act as that account.

## How to read values from an open Electron app window with Fastbrowse

Repo: [agent-labs-dev/fastbrowse](https://github.com/agent-labs-dev/fastbrowse) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Attach to a running Electron app, such as VS Code, and read what its window shows.

**Who it is for:** A developer who wants an agent to read a value from a desktop app window they already have open.

**The problem:** Desktop app windows cannot be read by a browser agent unless the app exposes a DevTools port.

**The outcome:** The run attaches to the named window, performs the task inside it and leaves the window open afterwards.

### Steps

1. Quit the app, then restart it with `--remote-debugging-port`, for example `open -a "Visual Studio Code" --args --remote-debugging-port=9222 ~/code/my-project`
2. Run `uv run fastbrowse "Open the Extensions view and report how many extensions are installed." --cdp-port 9222 --target-match my-project` (inferred, check the README)
3. Check the answer in stdout, then confirm the window is still open

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Use the fastbrowse repo to read <value> from the open window titled <window title> in an Electron app listening on port <port>. Run `uv run fastbrowse "<task>" --cdp-port <port> --target-match <window title>` and return the answer. Verify that the window stays open after the run.
```

### Caveat

An app that is already running ignores the DevTools flag, so it must be quit and restarted before the run can attach.
