# AI use cases for TV Detox (Ansub/tv-detox)

Repo: [Ansub/tv-detox](https://github.com/Ansub/tv-detox) | Use cases: 3 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/ansub-tv-detox/

TV Detox makes an old, slow Android TV fast again. You paste a prompt into Claude Code or Codex on your laptop, and the agent removes bloatware, ads and sponsored rows and installs a tiny ad-free home screen with your apps, HDMI inputs and a clock. Apps are turned off, never deleted, and undo.sh turns everything back on.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to clean up a slow Android TV with a coding agent with TV Detox

Repo: [Ansub/tv-detox](https://github.com/Ansub/tv-detox) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Turn on developer mode, paste the README prompt into your agent and let it turn off junk apps one confirmed step at a time.

**Who it is for:** Someone whose older Android TV stutters and shows ads on the home screen.

**The problem:** Old TVs fill up with bloatware and sponsored rows that eat memory and slow everything down.

**The outcome:** A faster TV with a calm home screen, plus a list of every change and how to undo it.

### Steps

1. On the TV press Build 7 times in Settings, Device Preferences, About, then turn on USB debugging in Developer options
2. Open Claude Code or Codex on your laptop, on the same Wi-Fi as the TV
3. Paste the prompt from the README Get started section and fill in your TV model
4. Confirm each change when the agent asks, since it turns apps off instead of deleting them
5. When it is done, turn off USB, Network and Wireless debugging, or turn off Developer options

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Help me clean up my Android TV and make it faster. My TV is a <model>. Before you change anything, tell me in plain words that this turns off system apps and has some risk, and ask me to confirm. Connect to my TV over Wi-Fi, list every app in plain English, ask me before every change, turn apps off instead of deleting them, and keep a list of what you changed and how to undo it.
```

### Caveat

Google TV and Chromecast with Google TV should keep Google TV's own home screen on, and OLED TVs should keep the screensaver on.

Risk, device-risk: The README warns this turns off system apps and that a few TVs got stuck at the logo or kept restarting. Do it at your own risk and keep undo.sh handy.

Risk, debugging: While USB, Network or Wireless debugging is on, other devices on your network can ask to control the TV, so turn it off when done.

## How to undo a TV cleanup that went wrong with TV Detox

Repo: [Ansub/tv-detox](https://github.com/Ansub/tv-detox) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 10 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use the undo list and undo.sh to turn every disabled app back on.

**Who it is for:** Someone who ran the cleanup and wants a feature, like voice search, back.

**The problem:** Turned-off apps can break a feature you actually use, and you need a safe way back.

**The outcome:** Every app the agent disabled running again.

### Steps

1. Turn USB debugging back on in Developer options on the TV
2. Open your agent and ask it to run undo.sh for your TV, which turns everything back on using its undo list
3. Restart the TV once and check it starts up normally
4. Turn debugging off again when you are done

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Run TV Detox's undo.sh for my Android TV at <ip> and turn back on every app we turned off. Show me the undo list first, and check the TV restarts normally afterwards.
```

### Caveat

Risk, device-risk: Newer Google TVs only offer Wireless debugging, which needs adb pair and adb connect before the scripts can reach the TV.

## How to connect to a Google TV with Wireless debugging with TV Detox

Repo: [Ansub/tv-detox](https://github.com/Ansub/tv-detox) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Pair your laptop with a newer Google TV so the cleanup scripts can reach it.

**Who it is for:** An owner of a Chromecast with Google TV that has no plain USB debugging.

**The problem:** Newer Google TVs only have Wireless debugging with a pairing code, so install.sh alone will not connect.

**The outcome:** A laptop connected to the TV, ready for the cleanup scripts.

### Steps

1. In Developer options open Wireless debugging and choose Pair device with pairing code, and leave that screen open
2. On the laptop run adb pair with the IP and port shown under the code, and type the code
3. On the Wireless debugging screen note the other IP and port and run adb connect with them
4. Use that same address for every script, such as install.sh and undo.sh
5. If a script cannot reach the TV, pair and connect again, since the port changes on every restart

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Help me pair my laptop with my Google TV using Wireless debugging. Walk me through adb pair and adb connect step by step, and tell me what to tap on the TV.
```

### Caveat

Do not restart the TV halfway through a cleanup, because the connection can drop.
