Claude Code Action is a GitHub Action that runs Claude Code on your pull requests and issues. It can answer questions about code, review PR changes, implement fixes and features, and track progress with checkboxes in a comment. It runs on your own GitHub runner, detects the right mode from the workflow context, and can return structured JSON outputs for other automation.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to add Claude to your GitHub repo's pull requests and issues with Claude Code Action

Repo: [anthropics/claude-code-action](https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code-action) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use the quickstart in Claude Code to install the GitHub app and the secrets the action needs.

**Who it is for:** A repository admin who wants teammates to ask Claude questions or request changes from PR comments.

**The problem:** Setting up a GitHub App, secrets and a workflow file by hand is easy to get wrong.

**The outcome:** The action installed, so Claude answers questions and makes changes from PR and issue comments.

### Steps

1. Open claude in your terminal inside the repository
2. Run the /install-github-app command and follow the prompts
3. Confirm the GitHub app and the API key secret were added
4. Mention Claude in a PR comment with a question to test it

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Install anthropics/claude-code-action on <repo> using /install-github-app in Claude Code, confirm the secrets, then open a test PR comment asking Claude to explain one function.
```

### Caveat

The quickstart works only for direct Anthropic API users; Bedrock, Vertex AI and Foundry need the cloud providers guide.

Repo: [anthropics/claude-code-action](https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code-action) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use the Solutions Guide's automatic PR review pattern so Claude reviews each PR when it opens.

**Who it is for:** A small team without enough reviewers for every change.

**The problem:** PRs wait days for review, and simple problems slip through when reviewers are busy.

**The outcome:** A review comment from Claude on each PR, with suggested improvements.

### Steps

1. Open the Solutions Guide and copy the Automatic PR Code Review example
2. Add it as a workflow in .github/workflows
3. Adjust the prompt input to your team's standards or a custom review checklist
4. Open a test PR and read the review

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Add anthropics/claude-code-action's automatic PR code review workflow from the Solutions Guide to <repo>, tune the prompt to our <standards>, and open a test PR to check it.
Use the Issue Triage and Labeling pattern so Claude categorizes issues as they arrive.
**Who it is for:** An open source maintainer drowning in unlabeled issues.
**The outcome:** New issues categorized and labeled by Claude on your own runner.
### Steps
1. Copy the Issue Triage and Labeling example from the Solutions Guide
2. Add your label list to the prompt
3. Commit the workflow and open a test issue
4. Review labels for a week before trusting it fully
