# AI use cases for DigUp (ARahim3/DigUp)

Repo: [ARahim3/DigUp](https://github.com/ARahim3/DigUp) | Use cases: 3 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/arahim3-digup/

DigUp searches the files on your computer by what is in them: photos, PDFs, documents, recordings, videos and, if you turn it on, code. It runs Google DeepMind's EmbeddingGemma 2 on device through llama.cpp, so you describe what you want in your own words, in 100+ languages, and it jumps to the matching file, page or moment in a video or podcast. It is free, open source and available for Mac, with Windows and Linux in beta.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to find any file by describing what is in it with DigUp

Repo: [ARahim3/DigUp](https://github.com/ARahim3/DigUp) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Pick folders, let DigUp index them on device, then search in plain words.

**Who it is for:** Someone hunting for a lease clause, a photo or a screenshot without the file name.

**The problem:** File search only matches names, not what is inside photos and scans.

**The outcome:** The right file, page or image found from a plain description, without anything leaving the computer.

### Steps

1. Install on Mac with `brew install --cask arahim3/tap/digup`, or download for Windows or Linux (beta)
2. Pick the folders to search
3. Wait for it to read the pictures, PDFs, documents, recordings and videos
4. Describe what you want, for example the clause about pets in the lease

### Prompt to paste into your agent

## How to jump to the exact moment in a video or podcast with DigUp

Repo: [ARahim3/DigUp](https://github.com/ARahim3/DigUp) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Search recordings and videos by what is said or shown and open them at that point.

**Who it is for:** A podcaster, student or researcher with hours of recordings.

**The problem:** Scrubbing through long audio and video to find one moment wastes time.

**The outcome:** The clip opened at the moment that matches your description.

### Steps

1. Add the folders with your recordings and videos
2. Search for what was said or shown, for example where they talk about sleep
3. Open the result at the matched moment

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using ARahim3/DigUp, index my <recordings folder> and find the moments where <topic> comes up. List the files and timestamps.
```

## How to search your code projects by what the code does with DigUp

Repo: [ARahim3/DigUp](https://github.com/ARahim3/DigUp) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 10 minutes | Basis: From the README

Turn on code search for chosen folders and find functions by describing them.

**Who it is for:** A developer with many old projects who remembers what something did, not where it is.

**The problem:** grep needs the exact name you no longer remember.

**The outcome:** The function or file that matches a description like retry a failed call with backoff.

### Steps

1. Code search is off by default; turn it on for the folders you choose
2. Let DigUp index those projects
3. Search with a description, for example code: retry a failed call with backoff

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Enable code search in ARahim3/DigUp for <projects folder> only, then find where I implemented <behaviour>, and confirm it does not read code outside that folder.
```
