Repo: [artemchuikin/youtube-skills](https://github.com/artemchuikin/youtube-skills) | Use cases: 4 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/artemchuikin-youtube-skills/

A set of 12 Agent Skills that let coding and chat agents pull YouTube transcripts, search YouTube, read channels and playlists, and run bulk exports through a hosted API.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to summarize a YouTube video from its transcript with YouTube Skills

Repo: [artemchuikin/youtube-skills](https://github.com/artemchuikin/youtube-skills) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Get the spoken text of one video and pull a summary or quotes from it.

**Who it is for:** A student or professional who needs the main claims of a long talk without watching it in full.

**The problem:** Watching a 60-minute talk to find one claim takes time, and the agent cannot read a video page directly.

**The outcome:** The agent fetches the transcript with timestamps and returns a summary and quotes tied to the moments they were said.

### Steps

1. Run `npx skills add artemchuikin/youtube-skills --skill youtube-full`
2. Ask the agent a question with the video link, for example: What does this video actually claim? [URL]
3. Follow the in-chat prompt to enter your email and the 6-digit code, so the agent creates your sk_ key
4. Ask for quotes or a summary and check that the quoted lines match the timestamps

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the youtube-skills repo, fetch the transcript of <video URL> with timestamps and write a five-bullet summary plus three quotes with their timestamps. Verify that each quote appears in the returned transcript text before you output it.
```

### Caveat

Transcripts come from a hosted TranscriptOut API, so an API key and credits are required, and a video with no captions returns a 404 that still costs one credit.

## How to bulk export a channel's transcripts for a search index with YouTube Skills

Repo: [artemchuikin/youtube-skills](https://github.com/artemchuikin/youtube-skills) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Collect video IDs from a channel or playlist and export transcripts in retrieval-sized chunks.

**Who it is for:** A developer building a search or RAG index over a creator's or course's back catalogue.

**The problem:** Scripting transcript downloads for hundreds of videos means handling rate limits, retries and chunking yourself.

**The outcome:** A single batch job returns chunked transcripts in JSON, ready for an embedding pipeline with no re-chunking step.

### Steps

1. Run `npx skills add artemchuikin/youtube-skills --skill youtube-full`
2. Ask the agent to list the channel or playlist IDs first, using ids_only=true to keep the lookup cheap
3. Ask the agent to submit one bulk job for those videos, with segment=1000&format=json
4. Check job progress and read results page by page while the job runs

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the youtube-skills repo, list all video IDs for <channel or playlist>, then submit one bulk transcript job with segment=1000 and format=json. Report the job ID, the number of videos accepted and the credits charged, and confirm that each chunk has a start timestamp.
```

### Caveat

Bulk submit costs one credit per video, and results are read while the job is still running, so partial output is normal until the job finishes.

Risk, credentials: The bulk job spends one credit per video, so keep the API key in a protected shell profile or secret store and check the balance before a large run.

## How to find every mention of a topic inside one channel with YouTube Skills

Repo: [artemchuikin/youtube-skills](https://github.com/artemchuikin/youtube-skills) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Search a single channel's videos for a keyword and get the matching videos.

**Who it is for:** A researcher or analyst tracking what one creator has said about a product, method or topic.

**The problem:** YouTube's own search covers the whole platform, so finding one creator's remarks on a topic takes manual scrolling.

**The outcome:** The agent returns the videos from that channel that mention the term, with the transcript context.

### Steps

1. Run `npx skills add artemchuikin/youtube-skills --skill youtube-channels` (inferred, check the README)
2. Ask the agent: Find every video on [channel handle] that mentions [term]
3. Check the returned video list against the channel page for one or two results
4. Ask for timestamps or quotes from the matching videos

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the youtube-skills repo, search inside the channel <channel handle> for the term <term> and list each matching video with its title and URL. Verify one match by opening its transcript and confirming the term appears.
```

### Caveat

Each search page costs one credit, and the search depends on what the hosted API indexes for that channel.

## How to turn a playlist into study notes with YouTube Skills

Repo: [artemchuikin/youtube-skills](https://github.com/artemchuikin/youtube-skills) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Read every video in a playlist and produce notes per lecture.

**Who it is for:** A learner working through a video course who wants written notes instead of rewatching lectures.

**The problem:** A playlist of lectures has no text version, so notes mean rewatching each video.

**The outcome:** The agent lists the playlist videos and writes notes for each one from its transcript.

### Steps

1. Run `npx skills add artemchuikin/youtube-skills --skill youtube-playlist` (inferred, check the README)
2. Ask the agent: Turn this lecture course into study notes: [playlist URL]
3. Confirm the video count matches the playlist before the notes are written
4. Save the notes as a file in your project folder

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the youtube-skills repo, list every video in the playlist <playlist URL>, fetch each transcript, and write one set of study notes per video with timestamps. Verify that the number of notes equals the number of videos returned.
```

### Caveat

Playlist listing costs one credit per page of 100 videos, and each transcript fetch costs one credit, so long courses use more credits than a single video.
