# AI use cases for Beat Design (BeatAPI/BeatDesign)

Repo: [BeatAPI/BeatDesign](https://github.com/BeatAPI/BeatDesign) | Use cases: 3 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/beatapi-beatdesign/

BeatDesign is an open-source, local-first workspace for AI image and video creation, with an infinite Canvas, a browser-based video Editor, and MCP tools that let coding agents work in the same project.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to edit local clips into an MP4 without an API key with Beat Design

Repo: [BeatAPI/BeatDesign](https://github.com/BeatAPI/BeatDesign) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Import local video, audio, and images, arrange them on a timeline, and export an MP4 in the browser.

**Who it is for:** A short-form creator with existing footage who needs to cut a clip together on a local machine and does not want to upload media to a provider.

**The problem:** Trimming, arranging, and exporting short videos usually means uploading files to a hosted tool or switching between several apps.

**The outcome:** A finished H.264/AAC MP4 exported from the browser, with all media kept in the local workspace.

### Steps

1. Run `pnpm install` in the Beat Design folder.
2. Run `pnpm db:push`.
3. Run `pnpm dev`.
4. Open http://127.0.0.1:3020 in Chrome.
5. Import your local clips, then trim, split, and arrange them in the Video Editor.
6. Preview the timeline and export the result as MP4 from the browser.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Use the BeatDesign repo at <repo path>. Start it with pnpm dev, import the local clips in <clip folder> into the Video Editor, arrange them in order, and export an MP4. Verify that the exported file plays in a browser.
```

### Caveat

Local importing, arranging, previewing, and exporting need no API key, but the setup still requires Node.js and pnpm, so it is not a copy-and-paste install.

## How to let an MCP agent edit the same timeline you see with Beat Design

Repo: [BeatAPI/BeatDesign](https://github.com/BeatAPI/BeatDesign) | Difficulty: Advanced | Time: 45 minutes | Basis: From the README

Connect a coding agent over local MCP so it updates Editor timelines, overlays, and captions in your open project.

**Who it is for:** A developer or editor who already uses Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor and wants the agent to do repetitive timeline work while they review in the browser.

**The problem:** Repetitive Editor work such as placing a logo overlay or adjusting subtitles for many clips is slow to do by hand in a browser.

**The outcome:** The agent makes timeline changes through Beat Design's project services, and the changes appear in the open browser workspace for review.

### Steps

1. Run `pnpm install`, then `pnpm db:push`.
2. Run `pnpm dev:agent` to start the visual workspace and the local HTTP MCP endpoint.
3. Follow the Agent integration guide for your host, such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor.
4. Open http://127.0.0.1:3020 and open your Beat Design project.
5. Ask the agent to make the timeline changes and leave the Editor open for review.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the BeatDesign MCP tools in <repo path>, open the latest project, add the clips in <clip folder> to a timeline, place the logo overlay at <logo file>, and style the SRT captions. Confirm the changes appear in the browser Editor and report what changed.
```

### Caveat

The README lists MCP host setup in separate per-agent guides, so you must follow the guide for your own host before the agent can see the tools.

## How to generate and branch images and video on a Canvas with Beat Design

Repo: [BeatAPI/BeatDesign](https://github.com/BeatAPI/BeatDesign) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Build a node-based image or video workflow on the infinite Canvas using your own BeatAPI key.

**Who it is for:** A creative lead testing visual ideas who wants to compare several generations and reuse outputs in one project.

**The problem:** Generated images and videos are often scattered across tools, which makes comparing and reusing them slow.

**The outcome:** A Canvas with prompts, generated results, and branches you can compare, with each result saved as a reusable project Asset.

### Steps

1. Run `pnpm install`, then `pnpm db:push`, then `pnpm dev`.
2. Open http://127.0.0.1:3020 in Chrome.
3. Add your BeatAPI API key from the BeatAPI dashboard in Beat Design settings.
4. Add prompt, image, or video nodes on the Infinite Canvas and connect them.
5. Generate results, branch ideas, and compare outputs; generated results become Assets you can reuse in the Editor.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the BeatDesign repo at <repo path>, use the Canvas to connect a prompt node for <prompt text> to an image generation node, generate three variations, and list the resulting Asset names. Verify that each variation appears as an Asset in the project.
```

### Caveat

Generation needs a BeatAPI key and sends media to a provider, while local importing and editing do not.

Risk, credentials: Generation and AI redo need your own BeatAPI API key, so store it safely and do not paste it into shared agent prompts or logs.

Dual-use notice: only use this on software, sites and systems you own or are authorized to test.
