OpenFill is a beta GIMP 3 plug-in that adds generative fill, object removal and generative expand using Stable Diffusion through a local ComfyUI, so nothing leaves your computer.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to remove unwanted objects from photos inside GIMP with Gimp Openfill

Repo: [beckettharriman/gimp-openfill](https://github.com/beckettharriman/gimp-openfill) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 1 hour | Basis: From the README

Select an object and let OpenFill paint it out with a local Stable Diffusion model.

**Who it is for:** A photographer who left Photoshop but still needs quick object removal.

**The problem:** GIMP has no built-in AI object removal.

**The outcome:** Clean photos edited without uploading anything.

### Steps

1. Install ComfyUI and the plug-in (on Windows run `powershell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File install.ps1`)
2. Open the photo in GIMP 3 and select the object
3. Run OpenFill object removal
4. Review and touch up the result

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
With beckettharriman/gimp-openfill installed, remove <object> from <photo> in GIMP 3 and save the result. Confirm ComfyUI ran locally and no network upload happened.
```

### Caveat

It is a beta; the README says most rough edges are in what the models draw.

## How to fill a selection from a text prompt with Gimp Openfill

Repo: [beckettharriman/gimp-openfill](https://github.com/beckettharriman/gimp-openfill) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Select an area, type a prompt, and get generated content blended into the image.

**Who it is for:** A designer mocking up product shots who needs to add elements quickly.

**The problem:** Compositing new elements by hand takes hours.

**The outcome:** Prompted content generated into the selected area.

### Steps

1. Install the plug-in and start ComfyUI
2. Select the region to fill
3. Enter a prompt in OpenFill's generative fill
4. Pick the best variation

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using OpenFill in GIMP, fill <selection> in <image> with <prompt> and export the result. Describe how well it blends with the surrounding pixels.
```

### Caveat

Quality depends on the Stable Diffusion model and your GPU memory.

## How to expand a photo's canvas with generated scenery with Gimp Openfill

Repo: [beckettharriman/gimp-openfill](https://github.com/beckettharriman/gimp-openfill) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 45 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use Generative Expand to grow the canvas and fill new borders to match the scene.

**Who it is for:** A social media manager who needs a landscape crop from a portrait photo.

**The problem:** Changing aspect ratio usually means cropping important content.

**The outcome:** A wider image with generated edges that match the original.

### Steps

1. On macOS or Linux set up ComfyUI in a venv and run `sh install.sh --comfy-dir ~/ComfyUI`
2. Open the image and enlarge the canvas
3. Run Generative Expand
4. Export at the new size

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Expand <image> to <aspect ratio> with OpenFill's Generative Expand in GIMP and export it. Check the seams for visible artifacts.
```

### Caveat

It has been tested end to end on Windows, Fedora Linux with a Flatpak GIMP, and an Apple M3 Mac.
