## How to keep a long Codex image task going by unchecking old images with Context Attachment Manager

Repo: [chipfighter/context-attachment-manager](https://github.com/chipfighter/context-attachment-manager) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Uncheck past images in the Context Assets panel so later requests stay small and the task keeps running.

**Who it is for:** A designer or hobbyist generating many images with GPT in one long Codex task, whose requests start failing as the history grows.

**The problem:** Codex resends every image in the task history with each request, so after a dozen or so images the connection drops and retries fail.

**The outcome:** Unwanted images become short placeholders from the next message on, and the task and conversation stay the same.

### Steps

1. On the Plugins page in Codex, click Add a marketplace, enter `chipfighter/context-attachment-manager` as the Source, and click Add marketplace.
2. Install Context Attachment Manager from the list, then restart Codex if Context Assets does not appear.
3. Open a task, click Toggle side panel at the top right, open a new tab with +, and choose Context Assets under Plugins and MCPs.
4. If the panel says the plugin is not enabled, click Enable plugin and restart Codex.
5. Uncheck Send on images you no longer need, or uncheck a whole turn at the end of its line, then send your next message and check the savings card.

Using the repo chipfighter/context-attachment-manager, install the plugin in the Codex desktop app for the task <task name>, then uncheck the images from turns older than <turn number> in the Context Assets panel. Report the estimated size of the next request shown in the savings card, and confirm that the unchecked images appear as placeholders in the next message.
```
### Caveat
The README reports tests on Windows with Codex 26.1013 only, and macOS and Linux have not been tried in the desktop apps.
## How to cut Claude Code session size in Claude Desktop by leaving out past images with Context Attachment Manager
Repo: [chipfighter/context-attachment-manager](https://github.com/chipfighter/context-attachment-manager) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README
Install the plugin from the command line, start a new Code tab session, and uncheck old images to shrink each request.
**Who it is for:** A user of the Code tab in Claude Desktop who works on a long session with many screenshots or generated images and sees slow or stalled replies.
**The problem:** Claude Code sends the whole session history with every request, so images from earlier turns keep growing each request.
**The outcome:** Images you uncheck are replaced with placeholders in later requests, and the session continues without starting over.
### Steps
1. Run `claude plugin marketplace add chipfighter/context-attachment-manager` once.
2. Run `claude plugin install codex-attachment-manager@codex-attachment-manager`.
3. Start a new session in the Code tab of Claude Desktop, since the plugin only points sessions started after install at the engine.
4. Open the Context Attachment Manager panel, which opens in the built-in browser, and uncheck the images you no longer need.
5. Send your next message and check the card at the top for the estimated request size and savings.
Using the repo chipfighter/context-attachment-manager, add the marketplace and install the plugin for Claude Code, then start a new session in Claude Desktop's Code tab for the project <project folder>. Uncheck the images from earlier turns in the panel and confirm that the savings card shows a smaller estimated request than before.
```

### Caveat

Claude Desktop does not ship Node, so without Codex you must install Node 24 or later first, and the plugin was tested on Windows only.

## How to let the model fetch only the images it needs with Auto-select with Context Attachment Manager

Repo: [chipfighter/context-attachment-manager](https://github.com/chipfighter/context-attachment-manager) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Keep Auto-select on so earlier images are left out by default and the model asks for the ones it needs by ID.

**Who it is for:** A Codex user in a long image task who wants smaller requests without picking each image by hand every turn.

**The problem:** Choosing which old images to keep for every new message is tedious, and a turn may need an earlier image the user forgot to keep.

**The outcome:** The model replies with need IMG-xxx when it needs an image, and you can click the ID in the bar at the top of the panel to bring it back for that turn.

### Steps

1. Open Context Assets in the side panel of a Codex task.
2. Confirm that Auto-select at the bottom of the panel is on, which is the default for new tasks.
3. Mark any reference image, such as a face or style sample, as Send every turn so it goes with every message.
4. When the model replies with need IMG-xxx, click the ID in the bar at the top of the panel to bring that image back for the current turn.
5. Check the panel for images the model fetched in the latest turn.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the repo chipfighter/context-attachment-manager in Codex, keep Auto-select on for the task <task name> and mark <reference image ID> as Send every turn. Ask the model to continue the image work, then list which IDs it requested with need IMG-xxx and confirm that the fetched images are the only earlier ones sent that turn.
```

### Caveat

Auto-select works only with the Codex and Claude Code proxy in place, so an install that stops because openai_base_url is already set will not enable it.

## How to find a past image by what it shows or what you said about it with Context Attachment Manager

Repo: [chipfighter/context-attachment-manager](https://github.com/chipfighter/context-attachment-manager) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Search the panel by description or your earlier comment, then check the right image before sending.

**Who it is for:** A creator reviewing a long image session who remembers a shot by its look or by a remark like too dark, but not by its position in the history.

**The problem:** After many turns and compactions the model may pick the wrong earlier image, and finding it by scrolling is slow.

**The outcome:** The matching image appears in the panel, you check it, and the model gets the right reference in the next message.

### Steps

1. Open Context Assets in the side panel of a Codex task, or the panel in Claude Desktop.
2. Type what the image shows or what you said back then, such as best face, in the search box.
3. Or pick a filter such as Uploaded, Generated, or a scene like rainy blue night.
4. Click the image to preview it, then check Send so it goes with your next message.
5. Send the message and confirm the placeholder for the other images in the next request.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the repo chipfighter/context-attachment-manager, open the Context Assets panel for the task <task name> and search for <phrase from memory>. Report the ID, turn, and source of the matching image, then check Send on it and confirm the next request includes that image.
```

### Caveat

The search depends on notes the model writes into its replies, which the panel reads from local conversation records, so images from before 0.8 may have no notes to match.
