# AI use cases for Getvect (craigjmidwinter/getvect)

Repo: [craigjmidwinter/getvect](https://github.com/craigjmidwinter/getvect) | Use cases: 3 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/craigjmidwinter-getvect/

GetVect is a local-first raster to vector converter that turns PNG, JPEG or BMP into SVG, EPS, DXF, PDF or PNG in the browser or a desktop app, with no account and an opt-in bring-your-own-key AI Enhance.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to convert a logo PNG to SVG without uploading it with Getvect

Repo: [craigjmidwinter/getvect](https://github.com/craigjmidwinter/getvect) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Drop an image into the browser app and download a vector file, processed entirely on your machine.

**Who it is for:** A small business owner who only has a pixelated PNG of their logo.

**The problem:** Online vectorizers want your image on their server and charge per conversion.

**The outcome:** An SVG, EPS, DXF or PDF of the image with no watermark.

### Steps

1. Open the browser app linked in the README
2. Drop in a PNG, JPEG or BMP
3. Adjust and export as SVG or another format
4. Check the result at a large size

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using craigjmidwinter/getvect in the browser, convert <logo.png> to SVG and confirm the file contains vector paths and that no network upload occurred.
```

### Caveat

The browser version lacks the command-line tracer and AI Enhance.

## How to get a DXF from an image for laser cutting or CNC with Getvect

Repo: [craigjmidwinter/getvect](https://github.com/craigjmidwinter/getvect) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Trace a raster drawing to DXF for cutting machines.

**Who it is for:** A maker who wants to laser-cut a hand-drawn design.

**The problem:** Cutting software needs vector paths, not pixels.

**The outcome:** A DXF ready to import into cutting software.

### Steps

1. Install the desktop app with `brew install craigjmidwinter/tap/getvect`
2. Launch with `getvect`
3. Load the scanned drawing and trace it
4. Export as DXF

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Trace <drawing.png> with GetVect and export DXF. Confirm the DXF opens in <CAD tool> with closed paths.
```

### Caveat

Trace quality depends on a clean, high-contrast source image.

## How to improve tricky traces with AI Enhance on desktop with Getvect

Repo: [craigjmidwinter/getvect](https://github.com/craigjmidwinter/getvect) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use the opt-in AI Enhance feature with your own key, stored in the OS secure storage.

**Who it is for:** A designer whose low-quality source image traces poorly.

**The problem:** Noisy sources produce messy vector paths.

**The outcome:** A cleaner trace after AI Enhance, with the key kept out of browser storage.

### Steps

1. Install the desktop app
2. Verify the download is notarized with the spctl command in the README
3. Turn on AI Enhance and add your own key
4. Trace and compare against the non-enhanced result

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the GetVect desktop app, enable AI Enhance with my key, trace <image>, and compare the path count with and without Enhance.
```

### Caveat

AI Enhance is the only feature that leaves your machine and it is off unless you opt in.

Risk, credentials: AI Enhance uses your own provider key and sends the image to that provider, the one exception to offline use.
