A Claude Code skill that builds short animated videos entirely in code, rendered to MP4 with a headless browser and ffmpeg.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to make a short explainer video from a topic prompt with Animate

Repo: [cth9191/animate](https://github.com/cth9191/animate) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 60 minutes | Basis: From the README

Turn one sentence into a 45-second animated explainer in a built-in style, after approving story and look checks.

**Who it is for:** A teacher, writer, or developer who needs a short explainer video on a concept and has Claude Code set up.

**The problem:** Making an animated explainer by hand in an editor takes hours of frame-by-frame work and specialist tools.

**The outcome:** A finished MP4 of the explainer in one of the built-in styles, with story, look, and storyboard approved along the way.

### Steps

1. Install the prerequisites: `npm i -g playwright && npx playwright install chromium`
2. Install the skill as a plugin: `/plugin marketplace add cth9191/animate` then `/plugin install animate@animate`
3. Start the skill with a prompt: `/animate how a hash map works, in the math style`
4. Approve the story check (the format and numbered beat table), then the look check (2 to 4 style frames), then the storyboard (thumbs up or down by panel number).
5. Review the delivered video and its measured checks, and send notes for a revision run if needed.

```text
Using the animate skill in cth9191/animate, make a 45-second explainer video about <topic> in the math style. Expect a finished MP4 in pieces/<piece-name>/ after the story, look, and storyboard approvals, and verify that the review step reports no cut-off or overlapping text.
```

### Caveat

The skill needs Claude Code plus Node, Playwright, and ffmpeg installed locally, so it is a developer setup rather than a copy-and-paste tool.

## How to cut a product launch reel to your song in every format with Animate

Repo: [cth9191/animate](https://github.com/cth9191/animate) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 60 minutes | Basis: From the README

Animate a product site's real screens with your own track and export it for vertical, square, and wide feeds.

**Who it is for:** A marketer or founder preparing a launch post who needs the same reel for phone stories, feed posts, and a website hero.

**The problem:** Reformatting one launch video for several aspect ratios usually means cropping and redoing timing for each shape.

**The outcome:** One reel animated with the real screens of your product, cut on your song's beats, and exported to 9:16, 1:1, and 16:9.

### Steps

1. Start the skill with your URL and track: `/animate a 20s launch reel for https://my-product.com, cut to ./audio/song.mp3, vertical and square`
2. Approve the story, look, and storyboard check-ins as the skill presents them.
3. Map the beats of your track if you want to check the cut points: `node $SKILL/tools/beats.mjs pieces/my-piece/audio/track.wav pieces/my-piece --start 12`
4. Export every format from the piece: `node $SKILL/tools/export.mjs pieces/my-piece --share --formats 9:16,1:1,16:9`
5. Open the review output and check the cuts on the beat grid and the hero anchoring before you publish.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the animate skill in cth9191/animate, build a 20-second launch reel for <product-url> cut to <track-path>. Expect MP4 files for 9:16, 1:1, and 16:9 in the piece folder, and verify that the review report shows the cuts landing on the beat grid.
```

### Caveat

The screen capture works from a URL you give it, and the README does not describe what happens on pages that need a login.

## How to match a custom animation look from your own references with Animate

Repo: [cth9191/animate](https://github.com/cth9191/animate) | Difficulty: Advanced | Time: 90 minutes | Basis: From the README

Give the skill a video, stills, or a web page and get a saved style that later pieces can reuse.

**Who it is for:** A brand designer or studio lead who wants every video to match an existing visual identity that is not one of the built-in styles.

**The problem:** Briefing an animator to match a house look is slow, and the look is hard to reuse across projects.

**The outcome:** A new style saved in your project's styles folder, checked against your references with side-by-side comparison frames.

### Steps

1. Measure your reference media: `node $SKILL/tools/measure/refs.mjs references/my-look/`
2. Start the skill with your references: `/animate a short about our API in the style of these screenshots: ./refs/`
3. Compare a reference with a generated frame: `node $SKILL/tools/compare.mjs references/my-look/a.png pieces/my-piece 2.5 compare.png --auto-trim`
4. Give thumbs up to the matched frames so the skill saves the style as styles/<name>/ in your project.
5. Build a new piece in the saved style and confirm it renders: `node $SKILL/tools/build.mjs pieces/my-piece`

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the animate skill in cth9191/animate, measure the references in <reference-folder> and create a custom style from them. Expect a styles/<name>/ folder with a STYLE.md and a kit.js, and verify that compare.mjs output places a generated frame next to the reference.
```

### Caveat

The README says reference media stays on your machine, but matching a look still depends on the quality of the references you supply and on your own thumbs-up judgement.

## How to build a narrated explainer with a synced voice-over with Animate

Repo: [cth9191/animate](https://github.com/cth9191/animate) | Difficulty: Advanced | Time: 90 minutes | Basis: From the README

Write a script, get one voice take per line, and time the picture to the spoken words automatically.

**Who it is for:** An educator or documentation writer who wants a narrated animated explainer with the picture synced to the voice.

**The problem:** Syncing narration to animated visuals line by line is tedious, and every re-take breaks the timing.

**The outcome:** A narrated MP4 where the scenes are timed to the words of the voice-over, with pace checked in the review.

### Steps

1. Connect the ElevenLabs connector in Claude (Settings, then Connectors) and install faster-whisper with Python.
2. Start the skill with a narration request: `/animate a narrated 45s explainer of how DNS works, math style, 16:9, voice from ElevenLabs`
3. Approve the script and the storyboard as the skill presents them.
4. Generate or re-time the voice with the tool: `node $SKILL/tools/voice.mjs pieces/my-piece`
5. Export and review the narrated piece: `node $SKILL/tools/export.mjs pieces/my-piece --share --formats 9:16,1:1,16:9` then `node $SKILL/tools/review.mjs pieces/my-piece`

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the animate skill in cth9191/animate, create a narrated 45-second explainer about <topic> with a voice-over. Expect voice.wav and voice.json in the piece folder and an exported MP4, and verify that the review reports narration pace and that every script line is timed to the picture.
```

### Caveat

The README names faster-whisper for timing and the ElevenLabs connector for the voice, but it does not state which voices or languages are supported.

Risk, credentials: The voice comes through the ElevenLabs connector, so you must connect your own ElevenLabs account in Claude settings and keep its access under your control.
