# AI use cases for Next AI Draw.io (DayuanJiang/next-ai-draw-io)

Repo: [DayuanJiang/next-ai-draw-io](https://github.com/DayuanJiang/next-ai-draw-io) | Use cases: 3 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/dayuanjiang-next-ai-draw-io/

Next AI Draw.io lets you create and edit draw.io diagrams by chatting with an AI, as a web app, desktop app and MCP server for Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and VS Code.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to draw an architecture diagram by describing it with Next AI Draw.io

Repo: [DayuanJiang/next-ai-draw-io](https://github.com/DayuanJiang/next-ai-draw-io) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Chat with the app to generate an editable draw.io diagram.

**Who it is for:** A developer documenting a system for a design review.

**The problem:** Laying out diagrams by hand is slow.

**The outcome:** An editable draw.io diagram generated from your description.

### Steps

1. Open the live demo, or clone and run it locally
2. Describe the system and its components
3. Ask for edits in chat
4. Export the draw.io file

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using DayuanJiang/next-ai-draw-io, draw <system description> as a draw.io diagram and export it. Confirm every component I named appears.
```

### Caveat

The hosted demo uses its own model configuration; self-host to use your own keys.

## Draw.io MCP server: let Claude Code create diagrams

Repo: [DayuanJiang/next-ai-draw-io](https://github.com/DayuanJiang/next-ai-draw-io) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Add the draw.io MCP server so Claude Code can diagram your codebase.

**Who it is for:** A developer who wants architecture diagrams generated from the repo.

**The problem:** Diagrams go stale because nobody updates them.

**The outcome:** Agent-generated draw.io diagrams of your code.

### Steps

1. Run `claude mcp add --scope user drawio -- npx @next-ai-drawio/mcp-server@latest`
2. Restart Claude Code
3. Ask it to diagram a module
4. Open the result in draw.io

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
With the drawio MCP server, diagram the modules in <repo> and their dependencies. Confirm the diagram opens in draw.io.
```

### Caveat

Diagram accuracy depends on what the agent reads from the code.

## How to self-host the diagram app with your own model with Next AI Draw.io

Repo: [DayuanJiang/next-ai-draw-io](https://github.com/DayuanJiang/next-ai-draw-io) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Run the web app locally with your provider and key.

**Who it is for:** A team that cannot send diagrams to a public demo.

**The problem:** Public demos are not suitable for internal designs.

**The outcome:** A private instance using your own model provider.

### Steps

1. Run `git clone https://github.com/DayuanJiang/next-ai-draw-io` and `cd next-ai-draw-io`
2. Run `npm install`
3. Copy env.example to .env.local and add your provider and key
4. Start with `npm run dev`

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Self-host next-ai-draw-io with <provider>, generate one diagram, and confirm requests went to my provider only.
```

### Caveat

A desktop app is also available if you prefer not to run a server.

Risk, credentials: Your provider API key lives in .env.local.
