# How to replace a paid cloud voice tool with a free local one with VoiceStudio

Repo: [debpalash/VoiceStudio](https://github.com/debpalash/VoiceStudio) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: Seen in the wild

Install the desktop app and generate cloned or designed voices on your own computer with no subscription or upload.

**Who it is for:** Solo creator paying monthly for a cloud voice-cloning service and uneasy about uploading voice recordings

**The problem:** Cloud voice tools charge monthly and send your voice data to someone else's servers.

**The outcome:** A working local app that turns typed text into speech in a cloned or designed voice, with nothing leaving your machine.

## Steps

1. Run `curl -fsSL https://voicestudio.sh/install | sh` on macOS or Linux, or `irm https://voicestudio.sh/install | iex` in PowerShell on Windows.
2. Open the app and go to the Voice cloning workspace.
3. Choose a bundled voice or add a clean reference recording, then install the required model when prompted.
4. Type your text and generate the audio.

## Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Install the VoiceStudio Electron app on this device and verify it works, following https://github.com/debpalash/VoiceStudio/blob/main/docs/install/agent.md. Confirm a test generation produces audio, and ask me before any model download.
```

## Caveat

The app is AGPL-3.0 but model weights carry separate terms (some reports cite non-commercial licenses), so check the model notices in Model Manager before any paid work.
