DonSeTch is a Rust binary that gives AI agents web fetch, keyless search, crawl and screenshot tools through MCP or a standalone CLI.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to give a coding agent live web search and fetch with Donsetch

Repo: [dondai44423/donsetch](https://github.com/dondai44423/donsetch) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Register DonSeTch as an MCP server so Claude Code or Cursor can search and read current web pages.

**Who it is for:** A developer using Claude Code or Cursor who needs current documentation or release notes that the model does not know yet.

**The problem:** Built-in model knowledge goes stale, and most web search tools require paid keys or accounts.

**The outcome:** The agent searches the web and reads source pages through DonSeTch, with source URLs it can cite.

### Steps

1. Run `npm install -g donsetch`
2. Run `donsetch doctor --mcp` to print absolute-path registration blocks for your client
3. Paste the printed block into your client's MCP configuration and restart the client
4. Ask the agent to search for a topic and fetch the top sources
5. Run `donsetch doctor` if a tool call fails

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the donsetch MCP server, search the web for <topic> and fetch the top 3 sources. Return a bulleted summary where each point has its source URL, and confirm each fetch returned page text.
```

### Caveat

Keyless search depends on the 10+ backends DonSeTch queries, so result quality is not guaranteed for every topic.

## How to read only the needed part of long web pages with Donsetch

Repo: [dondai44423/donsetch](https://github.com/dondai44423/donsetch) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use DonSeTch's token controls so an agent pulls a table of contents or one section, not the whole page.

**Who it is for:** An agent builder whose agent runs out of context when it reads long documentation or reports.

**The problem:** Full page text fills the context window and wastes tokens on content the agent does not need.

**The outcome:** The agent reads a table of contents, then fetches one section or a focused slice, and references search results by short tokens.

### Steps

1. Run `npm install -g donsetch`
2. Register the server in your agent's MCP config with the command `donsetch` and args `["mcp", "--supervised"]`
3. Call the fetch tool on the target URL with the toc option to list its sections
4. Call the fetch tool again with the section or focus option for the part you need
5. Use `fetch S3`-style references to fetch a search result by its short token

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the donsetch MCP server, fetch the table of contents of <URL>, then fetch only the section about <topic>. Return the section text and confirm the response is shorter than the full page.
```

### Caveat

The toc, section and focus options are named in the README, so confirm their exact parameter names in the tool schema before relying on them.

Dual-use notice: only use this on software, sites and systems you own or are authorized to test.

## How to pull text out of scanned PDF reports with Donsetch

Repo: [dondai44423/donsetch](https://github.com/dondai44423/donsetch) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Let DonSeTch fetch a scanned PDF and run its built-in OCR so the text can be read or searched.

**Who it is for:** A research analyst or student who needs text from a scanned report, paper or filing found on the web.

**The problem:** Scanned PDFs contain no selectable text, so ordinary extraction returns nothing usable.

**The outcome:** The agent returns the readable text of the scanned PDF, with OCR applied automatically.

### Steps

1. Run `npm install -g donsetch`
2. Run `donsetch doctor` to confirm the install
3. Ask your MCP client to fetch the scanned PDF URL; the first OCR run downloads the models, about 37MB, then caches them
4. Check the returned text against the PDF page you opened in a browser

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the donsetch MCP server, fetch the scanned PDF at <URL> and return its full text. Confirm the output contains readable sentences from the first page and state whether OCR ran.
```

### Caveat

Prebuilt OCR is shipped for linux-x64, macOS and Windows; linux-arm64 is core-only, and fragile PDF handling on Linux ARM64 is listed as an honest limit.

Dual-use notice: only use this on software, sites and systems you own or are authorized to test.

## How to read pages that block simple scrapers with Donsetch

Repo: [dondai44423/donsetch](https://github.com/dondai44423/donsetch) | Difficulty: Advanced | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use DonSeTch's stealth fetch and browser escalation to read pages that serve bot walls.

**Who it is for:** A researcher or analyst whose agent gets blocked or challenged when fetching public web pages with a plain HTTP client.

**The problem:** Plain fetches return challenge pages instead of the content a person sees in a browser.

**The outcome:** The agent retrieves the page text after DonSeTch's fetch tiers handle the challenge.

### Steps

1. Run `npm install -g donsetch`
2. Run `donsetch doctor --deep` to launch a real browser and run live probes
3. Ask your MCP client to fetch the blocked URL
4. Check that the returned text is the article, not a challenge page

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the donsetch MCP server, fetch <URL> and return the main article text. Confirm the response is page content rather than a bot challenge, and state which fetch tier succeeded if the output says so.
```

### Caveat

Browser escalation needs a discoverable Chromium, Playwright-cached build or Edge, because Chromium is optional and used only for tier-2 escalation.

Risk, reverse engineering: The stealth TLS and browser challenge handling is built to get past bot walls, so check the target site's terms and access rules before automated reading.

Dual-use notice: only use this on software, sites and systems you own or are authorized to test.
