# AI use cases for Reelmimic (edenfunf/reelmimic)

Repo: [edenfunf/reelmimic](https://github.com/edenfunf/reelmimic) | Use cases: 3 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/edenfunf-reelmimic/

ReelMimic is a local tool that breaks down a reference video's style and uses an AI crew (Claude Code or Codex) to plan, build and review a new video in that style.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to make a new video in the style of one you love with Reelmimic

Repo: [edenfunf/reelmimic](https://github.com/edenfunf/reelmimic) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 3 hours 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Drop in a reference video and a one-line brief to get an original video with the same pacing and look.

**Who it is for:** A content creator or small team that wants a new video matching the editing rhythm, colors and framing of a reference they admire.

**The problem:** Recreating a specific video style by hand takes long editing sessions and careful study of shot lengths, transitions and camera moves.

**The outcome:** A new 2D animated video in the same style, built from an approved plan and reviewed shot by shot, with a production log and review screenshots.

### Steps

1. Clone the repo with `git clone https://github.com/edenfunf/reelmimic.git && cd reelmimic`.
2. Run `./install.sh` on macOS or Linux, or double-click install.bat on Windows, then run `./start.sh` or start.bat.
3. Open the web address shown in the terminal, drop in your reference video or paste a link, describe what you want, and pick Claude Code or Codex.
4. Read the breakdown and the plan, chat in the side panel to request changes, then click Approve and start.
5. Watch the Production line tab, and when the video is done, scrub to any second and leave a note on anything that looks off.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the reelmimic repo, start the local web app, submit <reference video path or link> with the brief <one-line brief>, and approve the plan once it appears. Expected output: a finished video in the project folder with a final review result. Verify that the Production line tab shows every shot passed review before you report success.
```

### Caveat

A 30 to 60 second video usually takes 1 to 3.5 hours after plan approval, and it is tested mostly on Windows.

Risk, credentials: Runs through your own Claude Code or Codex account, so usage counts toward that account and any limit hit pauses the job.

Dual-use notice: only use this on software, sites and systems you own or are authorized to test.

## How to build a narrated comic with Taiwanese Mandarin voice with Reelmimic

Repo: [edenfunf/reelmimic](https://github.com/edenfunf/reelmimic) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 3 hours 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Turn a brief into a narrated comic video with Yating Taiwanese Mandarin narration.

**Who it is for:** A creator making short narrated comics in Traditional Chinese who needs Taiwanese Mandarin narration without recording it.

**The problem:** Producing a narrated comic means drawing scenes, timing them and recording a voiceover, which is slow to do alone.

**The outcome:** A narrated comic-style video, for example a 30 second comic like the Bath Time sample, with Yating narration added to the plan.

### Steps

1. Complete the setup in the Getting started section, including Node.js, Python, FFmpeg, Chrome and a logged-in Claude Code or Codex.
2. Create the file ~/.reelmimic/secrets.json and add your YATING_KEY, using secrets.example.json as the format.
3. Run `cd app && npm run doctor` to check the setup.
4. Start the app with `./start.sh`, then choose a narrated comic reference and write your brief in Traditional Chinese.
5. When the plan asks for narration text, add it or skip it, then click Approve and start.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the reelmimic repo, confirm YATING_KEY is set in the secrets file and run `cd app && npm run doctor`. Then submit a narrated comic brief for <topic> with <reference video path>, approve the plan, and wait for the final review. Expected output: a narrated comic video in the project folder. Verify the narration audio plays in the final file before reporting success.
```

### Caveat

The README lists narration voices but does not say how narration timing is matched to the comic panels, so check the sync on the first run.

Risk, credentials: The Yating API key lives in ~/.reelmimic/secrets.json, which must stay out of version control and be kept private.

Dual-use notice: only use this on software, sites and systems you own or are authorized to test.

## How to post a finished video to social accounts safely with Reelmimic

Repo: [edenfunf/reelmimic](https://github.com/edenfunf/reelmimic) | Difficulty: Advanced | Time: 1 hour 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Dry-run and then schedule a passed ReelMimic video to TikTok, Instagram and YouTube via Upload-Post.

**Who it is for:** A creator who has a finished ReelMimic video and wants to publish it to several social platforms on a schedule.

**The problem:** Uploading the same video to several platforms by hand is repetitive, and a mistaken post is hard to undo.

**The outcome:** The video is scheduled to the chosen platforms at the chosen time, after a dry run confirmed what would be sent.

### Steps

1. Set UPLOAD_POST_KEY and UPLOAD_POST_USER in ~/.reelmimic/secrets.json, and add the Upload-Post account you plan to use.
2. Confirm the project's final review passed in the Production line tab, since the command skips projects that did not pass unless you use --force.
3. Run `npm run post-video -- --platforms tiktok,instagram,youtube` from the app folder as a dry run and read what it lists. (inferred, check the README)
4. Run the same command with --at, --tz and --send added, for example `npm run post-video -- --platforms tiktok --at 2026-10-05T18:00 --tz Europe/Madrid --send`, once you are happy with the dry run. (inferred, check the README)
5. Check the scheduled post on each platform, and rerun the same command only if you want a repost, since the tool does not post the same video twice.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the reelmimic repo app folder, run `npm run post-video -- --platforms <platforms>` as a dry run for the project <project name>, then review the listed output. Expected output: a dry-run summary of what would be posted, with nothing sent. Verify the output before adding --send, and only send if the project's final review passed.
```

### Caveat

ReelMimic never posts by itself, and nothing leaves your computer until you add --send to the post-video command.

Risk, account pooling: Posting uses your Upload-Post key and the social accounts linked to it, so only publish from accounts you own or are authorized to use.

Risk, credentials: UPLOAD_POST_KEY grants posting access to your connected accounts, so keep it in the secrets file and out of shared logs.

Dual-use notice: only use this on software, sites and systems you own or are authorized to test.
