# AI use cases for Open SEO (every-app/open-seo)

Repo: [every-app/open-seo](https://github.com/every-app/open-seo) | Use cases: 3 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/every-app-open-seo/

OpenSEO is an open-source, pay-as-you-go alternative to Semrush and Ahrefs. It covers keyword research, rank tracking, competitor insights, backlinks, site audits and AI visibility, exposes an MCP server and Agent Skills for Claude Code, Codex and ChatGPT, and self-hosts on Docker or your own Cloudflare account with your own DataForSEO API key.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to self-host OpenSEO with Docker and pay only for the SEO data you use with Open SEO

Repo: [every-app/open-seo](https://github.com/every-app/open-seo) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 45 minutes | Basis: From the README

Run OpenSEO on your own server with the prebuilt Docker image and your own DataForSEO key.

**Who it is for:** An indie founder who needs keyword and backlink data a few times a month, not a $100+ subscription.

**The problem:** SEO suites charge a flat monthly fee whether you run two reports or two hundred.

**The outcome:** Your own OpenSEO instance with keyword research, rank tracking, backlinks and site audits, billed per request by DataForSEO.

### Steps

1. Get a DataForSEO API key as docs/DATAFORSEO_API_KEY.md explains
2. Follow docs/SELF_HOSTING_DOCKER.md to start the prebuilt image on your server, or on Coolify, Portainer or Dokploy
3. Open it in a browser; the first visitor creates the admin account
4. Invite teammates with invitation links
5. Run a keyword research and a site audit to check the key works

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Self-host every-app/open-seo on <server> with Docker following docs/SELF_HOSTING_DOCKER.md, add my DataForSEO key, create the admin account, and run a site audit on <domain>. Report the setup steps you took.
```

### Caveat

This card is written from the every-app/open-seo README, not from a test run by Deduped. Before you start, make sure you have a DataForSEO API key. Check the repo for newer instructions before you rely on these steps.

Risk, credentials: The DataForSEO key bills per request; keep it out of the repo and watch usage after setup.

## How to give Claude Code real SEO data through the OpenSEO MCP server with Open SEO

Repo: [every-app/open-seo](https://github.com/every-app/open-seo) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 20 minutes | Basis: From the README

Connect your agent to OpenSEO's MCP server and Agent Skills so it can research keywords and competitors for you.

**Who it is for:** A developer who writes their own landing pages and blog posts with Claude Code.

**The problem:** Agents guess at keywords and competitors because they have no access to real search data.

**The outcome:** An agent that pulls keyword, ranking, competitor and backlink data from your OpenSEO account while it writes.

### Steps

1. Run OpenSEO hosted at openseo.so or self-hosted
2. Follow the Set up OpenSEO MCP guide to connect Claude Code (or the Codex and ChatGPT guides)
3. Follow the Agent Skills setup guide to add the pre-built SEO workflows
4. Ask your agent to run keyword research for a page you are writing and pick target terms
5. Have it check competitor insights before you publish

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Connect every-app/open-seo's MCP server to Claude Code, then research keywords for <page topic>, compare the top 3 competitors for them, and suggest a title and outline for my page.
```

## How to deploy OpenSEO to your own Cloudflare account with no server with Open SEO

Repo: [every-app/open-seo](https://github.com/every-app/open-seo) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use the Cloudflare self-hosting path to run OpenSEO without managing a server, optionally behind Cloudflare Access.

**Who it is for:** A solo marketer who wants their own SEO tool but does not want to run a VPS.

**The problem:** Self-hosting usually means a server to patch and keep online.

**The outcome:** OpenSEO running on your own Cloudflare account, with Cloudflare Access in front if you want it locked down.

### Steps

1. Follow docs/SELF_HOSTING_CLOUDFLARE.md; one deploy command puts OpenSEO on your Cloudflare account
2. Add your DataForSEO API key
3. Optionally put Cloudflare Access in front so Cloudflare checks every request first
4. Set up rank tracking for your main keywords and check AI Visibility for your brand

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Deploy every-app/open-seo to my Cloudflare account following docs/SELF_HOSTING_CLOUDFLARE.md, put Cloudflare Access in front of it, add my DataForSEO key and start rank tracking for <keywords>.
```
