# AI use cases for Google Workspace CLI (googleworkspace/cli)

Repo: [googleworkspace/cli](https://github.com/googleworkspace/cli) | Use cases: 3 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/googleworkspace-cli/

gws is one command-line tool for Drive, Gmail, Calendar, Sheets, Docs, Chat, Admin and every other Google Workspace API, built for people and AI agents. It builds its commands at runtime from Google's Discovery Service, returns structured JSON, adds helper commands such as +send, +triage and +agenda, and ships 100+ agent skills. The README notes it is not an officially supported Google product and expects breaking changes before v1.0.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to script Gmail, Drive and Sheets from the terminal with Google Workspace CLI

Repo: [googleworkspace/cli](https://github.com/googleworkspace/cli) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 20 minutes | Basis: From the README

Install gws, sign in once, and call any Workspace API with JSON in and JSON out.

**Who it is for:** A developer or admin who wants quick scripts against Workspace without an SDK.

**The problem:** Google API clients need boilerplate for auth, paging and request bodies.

**The outcome:** Commands that list files, create sheets and post messages, with JSON you can pipe into jq.

### Steps

1. Install: `npm install -g @googleworkspace/cli` or `brew install googleworkspace-cli`
2. Run `gws auth setup` once, then `gws auth login`
3. List files: `gws drive files list --params '{"pageSize": 10}'`
4. Create a sheet: `gws sheets spreadsheets create --json '{"properties": {"title": "Q1 Budget"}}'`
5. Check any method's schema with `gws schema drive.files.list`

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Install googleworkspace/cli, authenticate it, and write a script that lists my 20 most recent Drive files into a new Google Sheet called <title>. Use --dry-run first and show me the output.
```

### Caveat

Not an officially supported Google product, and breaking changes are expected before v1.0.

Risk, credentials: OAuth tokens grant access to your mail and files; keep them on your machine and revoke them when done.

## How to give your coding agent Gmail, Drive and Calendar skills with Google Workspace CLI

Repo: [googleworkspace/cli](https://github.com/googleworkspace/cli) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 20 minutes | Basis: From the README

Add the gws agent skills so your agent can use Workspace through the CLI.

**Who it is for:** Someone who wants their agent to draft mail, read a calendar or update a sheet.

**The problem:** Agents cannot reach your Workspace data without custom tools.

**The outcome:** An agent that knows how to call gws for Gmail, Drive, Docs, Calendar and Sheets.

### Steps

1. Install and authenticate gws
2. Add all skills: `npx skills add https://github.com/googleworkspace/cli`
3. Or only some, for example the gws-drive or gws-gmail skill folders
4. Ask the agent for a Workspace task and approve each action

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Add googleworkspace/cli's gws-gmail and gws-calendar skills to my agent, then draft (do not send) replies to my 3 most recent unread emails and list my meetings for tomorrow.
```

### Caveat

Risk, credentials: The agent acts with your Google sign-in; keep it on draft and approval for anything that sends.

## How to triage your inbox and see your agenda with helper commands with Google Workspace CLI

Repo: [googleworkspace/cli](https://github.com/googleworkspace/cli) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 10 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use the + helpers for common jobs like inbox triage, sending mail and your agenda.

**Who it is for:** A busy person who wants quick inbox and calendar commands.

**The problem:** Raw API calls for everyday mail and calendar jobs are clumsy.

**The outcome:** One-line commands for agenda, triage, send and reply, in your account's timezone.

### Steps

1. Install and sign in to gws
2. See helpers with `gws gmail --help` (+send, +reply, +triage and more) and `gws calendar --help`
3. Run +agenda for today's meetings
4. Use +standup-report or +weekly-digest for summaries

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using googleworkspace/cli helpers, show my agenda for today and run gmail +triage on unread mail, and summarise what needs a reply. Do not send anything.
```
