# AI use cases for Blender AI Addon (hitkeeen/blender-ai-addon)

Repo: [hitkeeen/blender-ai-addon](https://github.com/hitkeeen/blender-ai-addon) | Use cases: 4 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/hitkeeen-blender-ai-addon/

A Blender add-on that turns the 3D viewport into a chat with an OpenCode AI agent, which writes bpy Python code that the add-on runs in the scene.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to build a 3D object in Blender from a text prompt with Blender AI Addon

Repo: [hitkeeen/blender-ai-addon](https://github.com/hitkeeen/blender-ai-addon) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Describe a model in plain words in the viewport chat and let the agent write and run the bpy code.

**Who it is for:** A Blender user who wants a starting object or simple scene fast and does not want to script it by hand.

**The problem:** Building simple geometry in Blender by hand takes time, and writing bpy code requires Python knowledge.

**The outcome:** A working object or scene appears in the Blender viewport, generated from a text description and run by the add-on.

### Steps

1. Download the add-on zip from the Releases page and install it via Edit > Preferences > Add-ons > Install.
2. Open the sidebar with N, go to the AI Copilot tab, and click Install OpenCode. Wait for the progress bar to finish.
3. In AI Settings, choose a provider, paste the API key, and enter a model name such as gpt-4o.
4. Click Start Server and wait for the status to show OpenCode ready.
5. Type a description of the object, for example a simple table with four legs, and click Send.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the Blender add-on in hitkeeen/blender-ai-addon, send the text prompt <describe the target object> through the AI Copilot chat and confirm the returned Python script runs in the scene. Expected output: a new object in the viewport matching the description. Verify that the add-on reported a successful run and no error log was produced.
```

### Caveat

The README links to the BlenderGPT3D organization while this repo is under hitkeeen, so confirm you are installing the intended add-on zip before using it.

Risk, credentials: The provider API key is entered into the add-on settings, so keep the key limited to this use and do not share the Blender file that stores it.

Risk, remote script: The generated Python code runs automatically in your scene, so check the result and save the .blend file before trying a new prompt.

## How to create a 3D model from a reference picture with Blender AI Addon

Repo: [hitkeeen/blender-ai-addon](https://github.com/hitkeeen/blender-ai-addon) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 45 minutes | Basis: From the README

Attach a photo or a viewport screenshot so the agent builds a matching model in Blender.

**Who it is for:** A 3D artist or prop maker who has a reference image and wants a rough blockout to start from.

**The problem:** Turning a reference picture into a first blockout in Blender is slow when every shape must be placed by hand.

**The outcome:** A blockout model in the viewport that roughly follows the attached reference image, ready for refinement.

### Steps

1. Complete the add-on install and start the OpenCode server as described in the README.
2. In AI Settings, select a vision-capable model such as gpt-4o, claude-sonnet-4, or llava.
3. Attach the reference image file, or take a screenshot of the viewport and attach it.
4. Write a short request such as: create a blockout that matches the attached image, and click Send.
5. Review the generated object and send a follow-up message to correct proportions or details.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the hitkeeen/blender-ai-addon AI Copilot chat, attach <reference image path> and ask the agent to build a blockout model matching it. Expected output: a Python script that creates objects in the scene resembling the reference. Verify that the chosen model is vision-capable and that the add-on reports a successful run.
```

### Caveat

The README says image input needs a vision model such as gpt-4o, claude-*, or llava, and a text-only model will not work for this step.

Risk, credentials: Uploading the reference image sends it to the chosen AI provider, so use only images you are allowed to share with that provider.

Risk, remote script: The generated script runs in your scene automatically, so review the shapes it creates before keeping them.

## How to let the agent repair a failing generated script with Blender AI Addon

Repo: [hitkeeen/blender-ai-addon](https://github.com/hitkeeen/blender-ai-addon) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

When generated bpy code errors, the add-on sends the log back so the agent corrects the script.

**Who it is for:** A Blender user whose first attempt at a prompt produced an error and who wants it fixed without debugging the Python.

**The problem:** A failed bpy script leaves the scene half-built and the error message is hard to read for non-programmers.

**The outcome:** A corrected script that runs in the scene after the agent reads the error log.

### Steps

1. Send a prompt in the AI Copilot chat and wait for the first run.
2. If the run fails, leave the error in place and wait for the add-on to send the log to the agent.
3. Watch the chat for the agent's corrected script and its automatic re-run.
4. If the problem remains, send a message asking for the full python script again.
5. Open server.log in the add-on data folder if the server itself will not start.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In hitkeeen/blender-ai-addon, send a prompt that is expected to need repair and confirm the Auto-fix loop returns a corrected python block. Expected output: a corrected script that runs without error in the Blender scene. Verify the final run in the add-on reports success and check server.log if the server failed to start.
```

### Caveat

The README says a common cause of server startup failure is a wrong API key, so check the key before assuming the agent code is at fault.

Risk, remote script: Each automatic fix is a new script that runs in your scene, so save the .blend file before letting the loop run several times.

## How to edit a Blender scene with a local Ollama model with Blender AI Addon

Repo: [hitkeeen/blender-ai-addon](https://github.com/hitkeeen/blender-ai-addon) | Difficulty: Advanced | Time: 1 hour | Basis: From the README

Use Ollama instead of a cloud key to have the agent change objects in your scene.

**Who it is for:** A Blender user who prefers not to send scene prompts to a cloud provider and already runs Ollama locally.

**The problem:** Cloud model keys and external services may not be wanted for every project.

**The outcome:** Objects in the scene are changed by code the agent writes, using a model running on your own machine.

### Steps

1. Install Ollama and pull a model such as llava on your machine.
2. Complete the add-on install and the Install OpenCode step as described in the README.
3. In AI Settings, choose the Ollama provider. No API key is needed for local Ollama.
4. Enter the model name llava, click Start Server, and wait for OpenCode ready.
5. Ask for a change to an existing object, for example: make the chair legs thicker, and click Send.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Configure the hitkeeen/blender-ai-addon AI Copilot with the Ollama provider and model llava, then send the request <describe the scene edit> in the chat. Expected output: a bpy script that modifies the named object in the open scene. Verify that the server reports OpenCode ready and that the edited object changes in the viewport.
```

### Caveat

The README lists llava as a vision model, but a local model may produce weaker bpy code than the cloud models named in the table, so test on a copy of the file first.
