# AI use cases for Barehands (jaredrhod/barehands)

Repo: [jaredrhod/barehands](https://github.com/jaredrhod/barehands) | Use cases: 4 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/jaredrhod-barehands/

barehands is a free, open-source webcam app that turns hand gestures into a glass-card interface on screen, and lets an AI assistant control that screen through simple file and localhost commands.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to have your AI put a plan on a glass board with Barehands

Repo: [jaredrhod/barehands](https://github.com/jaredrhod/barehands) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Your AI assistant pins a plan or answer as a large card on your screen instead of only typing it.

**Who it is for:** A solo builder or manager working with an AI assistant who wants to see plans and results visually while talking through them.

**The problem:** Long answers in a chat window are hard to scan, and a plan typed as text is easy to lose track of while you are moving around.

**The outcome:** A presented card appears center stage, enlarged and spotlit, and your assistant can read back what is on the board before it speaks.

### Steps

1. Run `git clone https://github.com/jaredrhod/barehands` and then `cd barehands`.
2. Start the app with `python3 server.py` (on Windows, run `run.bat` instead).
3. Open http://127.0.0.1:8794/stage.html in Chrome, allow the camera, and wave.
4. Have your assistant send a card with `bin/board.sh '{"a":"present","title":"THE PLAN","body":"..."}'`.
5. Check what is on the board with `bin/board-state.sh`.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the barehands repo at <path>, run bin/board.sh with a present action that titles a card with <plan title> and puts <plan text> in the body. Then run bin/board-state.sh and confirm the card title appears in the output.
```

### Caveat

The README says the server enforces an action allowlist and a media jail, so only the listed actions and files inside media/ will work on the board.

## How to flip through your Obsidian notes with pinches with Barehands

Repo: [jaredrhod/barehands](https://github.com/jaredrhod/barehands) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Point a board orb at your Obsidian vault and open your notes as glass cards with hand gestures.

**Who it is for:** A knowledge worker or writer who keeps notes in an Obsidian vault and wants to browse them without touching a keyboard or mouse.

**The problem:** Searching and opening notes in a folder means switching windows, and hands-free browsing is not an option in the usual note apps.

**The outcome:** Your vault appears as a notes orb on the board, and tapping the orb unfolds your markdown files as cards you can pinch, drag, and throw.

### Steps

1. Run `git clone https://github.com/jaredrhod/barehands` and then `cd barehands`.
2. Open Barehands.json and add an orb such as { "title": "Notes", "path": "~/MyVault", "kind": "notes" }, pointing the path at your vault.
3. Start the app with `python3 server.py` and open http://127.0.0.1:8794/stage.html in Chrome.
4. Tap the ring to make the orbs bloom, then tap the Notes orb to unfold your files.
5. Pinch-drag a card to move it, or flick it to throw it.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the barehands repo, add a notes orb to barehands.json that points to <vault path>, then confirm the file is valid JSON. Expected output is the updated config and a note that the Notes orb is ready. Verify the path resolves to a folder that contains .md files.
```

### Caveat

The README says only markdown folders are shown as notes, so attachments and other file types in the vault will not appear as notes.

## How to pull a 3D model apart by hand with Barehands

Repo: [jaredrhod/barehands](https://github.com/jaredrhod/barehands) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Drop a 3D model into the media folder and scrub its exploded view with your fingers.

**Who it is for:** An engineer, product designer, or hobbyist who wants to look at how a 3D model is assembled and does not want to use a mouse in a 3D viewer.

**The problem:** Rotating and separating parts of a 3D model in a standard viewer takes precise mouse work and makes it hard to show the structure to others.

**The outcome:** The model floats on the board, you can rotate it by holding still while carrying it, and an empty pinch dragged sideways pulls its parts apart into an exploded view.

### Steps

1. Run `git clone https://github.com/jaredrhod/barehands` and then `cd barehands`.
2. Copy your 3D model file into the media/models/ folder.
3. Start the app with `python3 server.py` and open http://127.0.0.1:8794/stage.html in Chrome.
4. Tap the ring, tap the Props orb, and open your model.
5. Hold still while carrying the model to rotate it, and drag an empty pinch sideways to scrub the exploded view.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the barehands repo, copy <model file> into media/models/ and confirm it appears in the Props orb after the server starts. Expected output is a list showing the model file in that folder. Verify that the file is inside media/ because only files there appear on the board.
```

### Caveat

The README says only files inside media/ can appear on the board, so a model stored anywhere else will not show up.

## How to run a hand-tracked overlay in an OBS scene with Barehands

Repo: [jaredrhod/barehands](https://github.com/jaredrhod/barehands) | Difficulty: Advanced | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Mirror the glass board into OBS as a transparent layer over your camera for streams and recordings.

**Who it is for:** A streamer or video creator who records demos or tutorials in OBS and wants hand-driven glass cards over their camera feed.

**The problem:** Showing interactive on-screen objects in a recording usually needs green screens or manual editing in post.

**The outcome:** The render page composites the glass cards over your camera in OBS with real transparency, and you can switch to vertical 9:16 for short-form video.

### Steps

1. Run `git clone https://github.com/jaredrhod/barehands` and then `cd barehands`.
2. Start the app with `python3 server.py` and open the tracker page at http://127.0.0.1:8794/stage.html in Chrome, which owns your camera.
3. In OBS, add a browser source pointed at http://127.0.0.1:8794/stage.html?role=render.
4. Add &cursors=0 to hide the finger rings, or &ss=2 to render at 2x for sharper cards.
5. Add ?portrait=1 to the tracker page to flip the rig to vertical 9:16 for Shorts and TikTok.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the barehands repo, start server.py and confirm that http://127.0.0.1:8794/stage.html?role=render loads without errors. Expected output is a page load with no console errors in Chrome. Verify the cards are transparent when placed in an OBS browser source.
```

### Caveat

The README says the tracker page owns the camera, so the page must stay open in Chrome while the render page is used in OBS.
