Agent HUD is an open-source macOS app that shows usage, quotas, tokens and sessions for Claude Code, Codex and many other coding agents at the Mac notch or a screen edge.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to watch every agent's quota at the Mac notch with Agent Hud Open

Repo: [jazzenchen/agent-hud-open](https://github.com/jazzenchen/agent-hud-open) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Build the open-source HUD and see each agent's quota as a colour glow at the notch or a screen edge.

**Who it is for:** A developer running Claude Code, Codex and other agents at once who keeps losing track of how much quota is left.

**The problem:** Quota limits are spread across several agent tools, and checking each one interrupts the work in the editor or terminal.

**The outcome:** A glow at the notch or on a screen edge that turns green, yellow or red as each quota fills, with the numbers one hover away.

### Steps

1. Run `git clone https://github.com/jazzenchen/agent-hud-open.git` and then `cd agent-hud-open`.
2. Run `make check` and `make test` to check the source and run the unit tests.
3. Run `make run` to build and open build/Agent HUD Open.app, signed ad-hoc for local use.
4. Hover over the glow to read each quota's share used and reset countdown.
5. Open Settings to choose the accounts and quotas to show, and set each display's mode to Simple or Dynamic if you want one logo per agent.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the agent-hud-open repository, run `make check`, `make test` and `make run`, then report whether build/Agent HUD Open.app opened. Verify that at least one agent quota shows a colour glow, and state which quota it is.
```

### Caveat

Agent HUD finds installed agents by itself, but the quota readings depend on each vendor's data, and some agents such as Hermes Agent report no quota at all.

Risk, credentials: The app reads quotas from each vendor with the agent's existing sign-in or configured key, so only run it on a Mac you trust and check which accounts you enable in Settings.

## How to answer agent approvals and questions from the HUD with Agent Hud Open

Repo: [jazzenchen/agent-hud-open](https://github.com/jazzenchen/agent-hud-open) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Allow, deny or answer an agent's request from the HUD and jump back to its session in one click.

**Who it is for:** A developer working in another app who needs to approve a command or answer a question from an agent without losing focus.

**The problem:** An agent waits on an approval or question in a terminal window the developer is not looking at, so the work stalls.

**The outcome:** Each pending request appears on the HUD with its command, file or diff, and can be answered there, with a click back to the session when needed.

### Steps

1. Run `make run` from the Agent Hud Open folder to open the app.
2. Install and sign in to the agent you want to monitor, such as Claude Code or Codex, so Agent HUD can find it.
3. When a request appears, read the command, file, edit diff or tool input it asks about on the HUD.
4. Choose Deny, Allow once, or Always allow where the agent offers a rule, or pick an option to answer a question.
5. Click the session's title or Return to session to go back to its thread, tab or iTerm2 pane.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the agent-hud-open repository, run `make run` and confirm the app is open. Trigger one approval request from Claude Code or Codex, then verify the request appears on the HUD with its command or diff and report what options it offers.
```

### Caveat

Codex approvals need its hook trusted in Codex, and a request you leave alone returns to the agent's own prompt after 10 minutes.

## How to audit token spend by agent, model and session with Agent Hud Open

Repo: [jazzenchen/agent-hud-open](https://github.com/jazzenchen/agent-hud-open) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Review 30 days of token history and estimated API cost per agent, model, session and turn.

**Who it is for:** A developer or team lead who wants to know which agent, model or session is using the most tokens.

**The problem:** Token use is scattered across agent tools, so it is hard to see where the spend goes or which sessions use the most context.

**The outcome:** A statistics window that breaks tokens down by time, agent, model, session and turn, with cost estimates at API prices.

### Steps

1. Run `make run` from the Agent Hud Open folder and let it collect local records for a while.
2. Open the statistics window and select the last 5 hours, 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days.
3. Review the card for each agent, then narrow the chart to the models and token kinds you care about.
4. Open a session to see tokens per turn, how full the context window got, and each model call in a turn.
5. Read the cost figures, noting that those marked ≈ are priced at API prices and are an estimate on a subscription, not a charge.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the agent-hud-open repository, run `make run`, then open the statistics window and report the token total for the last 24 hours for each agent shown. Verify that the cost figures marked ≈ are labelled as estimates.
```

### Caveat

Cost figures are priced at the vendor's API prices where a model has one, so they are not what a subscription actually charges.

## How to check agent quotas and sessions from iPhone on home Wi-Fi with Agent Hud Open

Repo: [jazzenchen/agent-hud-open](https://github.com/jazzenchen/agent-hud-open) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 45 minutes | Basis: From the README

Share your Mac with the official iPhone app to see quotas and sessions without a server, on the same network.

**Who it is for:** A developer who steps away from the desk but stays on the same network as their Mac and wants to see agent status on the phone.

**The problem:** Checking whether an agent has quota left or is waiting requires being at the Mac.

**The outcome:** Quotas, balances, token statistics and sessions show on iPhone, in widgets and on Apple Watch, served directly by the Mac.

### Steps

1. Install the official Mac app from https://agenthud.app/mac.
2. In the Mac app, open Settings → Local network and turn on Share this Mac.
3. Open Agent HUD for iPhone on an iPhone signed in to the same Apple Account, which connects by itself.
4. For any other iPhone, scan the QR code shown by the Mac to pair it.
5. Check the Home and Sessions views on the phone to confirm quotas and sessions are showing.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Open the official Agent HUD Mac app, turn on Settings → Local network → Share this Mac, then pair an iPhone on the same network. Verify that the iPhone Home view shows the same quotas as the Mac and report any mismatch.
```

### Caveat

This path uses the official Mac app and the iPhone app, not the open-source build, and remote access away from the network is a separate paid feature called Agent HUD Remote.
