## How to break a multi-episode series into acts and act outs with Screenwriting Skills

Repo: [jtydhr88/screenwriting-skills](https://github.com/jtydhr88/screenwriting-skills) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Get an act-by-act breakdown with act outs for each episode of your series, using the series structure skill.

**Who it is for:** A TV writer or showrunner who has a series outline with 12 or more episodes and needs each episode split into acts before drafting.

**The problem:** Series scripts use medium-specific units such as teasers, act outs and cliffhangers that general feature structure guides do not cover.

**The outcome:** A per-episode act map with act-out placements and cliffhanger notes, drawn from the series structure skill.

### Steps

1. Run `/plugin marketplace add jtydhr88/screenwriting-skills` in Claude Code.
2. Run `/plugin install screenwriting@screenwriting-skills` in Claude Code.
3. Paste your series outline into the chat and ask for an act breakdown per episode, naming the act-out for each.
4. Check that every episode has a teaser or cold open placement and a stated act-out before you use the map.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the screenwriting-skills repo (sw-series-structure), read the series outline in <path or pasted text> and produce an act breakdown for each episode with act-out and cliffhanger placements. Verify that every episode lists a teaser or cold open and at least one act-out before returning the result.
```

### Caveat

The skill bodies are written in Chinese, so you get answers in your question's language but must rely on the agent's account if you want to audit the instructions.

## How to rewrite on-the-nose dialogue in a scene with Screenwriting Skills

Repo: [jtydhr88/screenwriting-skills](https://github.com/jtydhr88/screenwriting-skills) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Revise a scene whose characters say exactly what they feel, using the dialogue and scene craft skills together.

**Who it is for:** A screenwriter whose draft scene feels flat because characters state their emotions outright and the action has little pressure.

**The problem:** Dialogue that carries the plot directly weakens the scene, and general notes rarely show which lines to cut or convert into action.

**The outcome:** A revised scene with subtext-driven dialogue and tighter scene structure, plus notes on which lines changed and why.

### Steps

1. Run `/plugin marketplace add jtydhr88/screenwriting-skills` in Claude Code.
2. Run `/plugin install screenwriting@screenwriting-skills` in Claude Code.
3. Paste the scene text and say which character's intent should stay hidden.
4. Ask the agent to mark each on-the-nose line and propose a revision, then compare the new scene against your original.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the screenwriting-skills repo (sw-dialogue and sw-scene-craft), revise the scene in <pasted scene text> so that the characters stop stating their feelings directly and the conflict shows in action. Return the revised scene and a list of changed lines with reasons. Verify that the character names and the scene's facts are unchanged.
```

### Caveat

The skills are applied to your script in its own language, so keep the scene text in your script's language and expect the explanations in the language you asked in.

## How to turn a long novel into a series episode outline with Screenwriting Skills

Repo: [jtydhr88/screenwriting-skills](https://github.com/jtydhr88/screenwriting-skills) | Difficulty: Advanced | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Convert a long manuscript into a numbered episode outline with a series engine and bible, using the Chinese series skill.

**Who it is for:** A producer or writer adapting a long novel into a multi-episode drama who needs a first episode-by-episode outline.

**The problem:** A novel does not divide into episodes by itself, and the series engine and bible need to be decided before the episodes can be planned.

**The outcome:** A proposed episode outline with a series engine statement and bible notes, built from the series practice and engine skills.

### Steps

1. Run `/plugin marketplace add jtydhr88/screenwriting-skills` in Claude Code.
2. Run `/plugin install screenwriting@screenwriting-skills` in Claude Code.
3. Give the agent the novel in chunks or a detailed synopsis, and state the target episode count.
4. Review the engine statement first, then the episode list, and ask for revisions before drafting any episode.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the screenwriting-skills repo (sw-chinese-series-practice and sw-series-engine-bible), read <novel synopsis or file> and produce a series engine statement plus a numbered episode outline for <target episode count> episodes. Verify that each episode has a distinct turn and that the engine statement is stated before the episode list.
```

### Caveat

The README gives a 400,000-word to 40-episode example, but a full novel may exceed what one chat can hold, so you may need to split the input into chunks.

## How to track a screenplay project's stage across sessions with Screenwriting Skills

Repo: [jtydhr88/screenwriting-skills](https://github.com/jtydhr88/screenwriting-skills) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use the workflow orchestrator and a story bible file to keep your screenplay's stage and decisions between chats.

**Who it is for:** A writer who works on a script over many sessions and loses track of which stage they reached and which decisions are settled.

**The problem:** Without a shared record, each new session restarts from memory, and stage deliverables and open decisions get lost.

**The outcome:** A story bible file that records project state, plus a stage check that says where to pick up next time.

### Steps

1. Run `/plugin marketplace add jtydhr88/screenwriting-skills` in Claude Code.
2. Run `/plugin install screenwriting@screenwriting-skills` in Claude Code.
3. Ask the workflow skill to set up a project and create a story bible file in your project folder.
4. At the end of each session, ask the agent to update the story bible with the current stage, open questions and next steps.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the screenwriting-skills repo (sw-workflow), set up a project for <project name> and create a story bible file that tracks the current stage, settled decisions and open questions. Verify at the start of each new session that the agent reads the file and states the current stage before writing anything.
```

### Caveat

The workflow's exit checks are advisory, so the agent will flag missing deliverables but will not block you from moving on.
