# AI use cases for Agent Skill Sync (kina-cmd/agent-skill-sync)

Repo: [kina-cmd/agent-skill-sync](https://github.com/kina-cmd/agent-skill-sync) | Use cases: 4 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/kina-cmd-agent-skill-sync/

skillsync is a zero-dependency Python CLI that scans, classifies (A/B/C/D) and syncs AI-agent SKILL.md files across toolchains like Codex, Claude Code and WorkBuddy.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to see every agent skill and its state in one list with Agent Skill Sync

Repo: [kina-cmd/agent-skill-sync](https://github.com/kina-cmd/agent-skill-sync) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Get one inventory of all SKILL.md files across your agent folders, with category and missing deps.

**Who it is for:** A developer who uses Codex, Claude Code and other agents and has lost track of which skills exist where.

**The problem:** Skill libraries sit in different directories and layouts, some copied, some stale, some needing dependencies that were never installed.

**The outcome:** A clear inventory showing each skill's category, sync state, source and any missing dependencies.

### Steps

1. Run `pipx install agent-skill-sync` to install the CLI in an isolated environment.
2. Run `skillsync status` to see what you have and in what state.
3. Run `skillsync scan --category B` to list only the skills that need external dependencies.
4. Run `skillsync scan --json` if you want the inventory in machine-readable form.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Use the agent-skill-sync repo to list all SKILL.md files on this machine. Run `skillsync scan --json` and save the output to <output-file>. Expected output: a JSON inventory with category and source for each skill. Verify that the count of skills matches what `skillsync status` reports.
```

### Caveat

Classification is heuristic and conservative, so treat each category as a reasoned suggestion and check the shown reason before acting on it.

## How to generate an always-current skill index for your agent with Agent Skill Sync

Repo: [kina-cmd/agent-skill-sync](https://github.com/kina-cmd/agent-skill-sync) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Build INDEX.md and inventory.json so an agent reads a file that matches the real skill folders.

**Who it is for:** A developer who keeps a hand-written tool-reuse skill for their agent and is tired of it going stale.

**The problem:** A hand-maintained index rots as soon as a skill is added or changed upstream.

**The outcome:** A generated INDEX.md and inventory.json you can commit, or place in a tool-reuse skill for the agent to read.

### Steps

1. Install the CLI with `pipx install agent-skill-sync`.
2. Run `skillsync index --out ./output --lang zh` to write INDEX.md and inventory.json.
3. Open the generated INDEX.md and check that each skill shows its category and the reason for it.
4. Schedule the same index command on a timer or a git hook so the file stays current.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Use the agent-skill-sync repo to regenerate the skill index. Run `skillsync index --out <output-dir> --lang zh` and confirm that INDEX.md and inventory.json were written. Expected output: two files in <output-dir>. Verify that inventory.json lists the same skills that `skillsync scan` shows.
```

### Caveat

The index only reflects the source roots the tool can find, so add custom roots in skillsync.toml if your skills live elsewhere.

## How to get alerted when upstream agent skills change with Agent Skill Sync

Repo: [kina-cmd/agent-skill-sync](https://github.com/kina-cmd/agent-skill-sync) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Diff the current skills against the last snapshot and record a new one each run.

**Who it is for:** A developer who pulls third-party or marketplace agent skills and wants to notice changes without rereading everything.

**The problem:** Upstream skill updates land silently, so local copies drift without anyone noticing.

**The outcome:** A changed-since-last-check report, plus a one-line summary you can run from cron.

### Steps

1. Install the CLI with `pipx install agent-skill-sync`.
2. Run `skillsync check` once to record the first snapshot.
3. Run `skillsync check` again after upstream updates to see what changed since the last snapshot.
4. Run `skillsync check --quiet` in a cron job to get a summary line only.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Use the agent-skill-sync repo to report skill changes since the last run. Run `skillsync check --quiet` and write the output line to <log-file>. Expected output: one summary line with counts of changed skills. Verify by running `skillsync check` without --quiet and confirming the detail matches the summary.
```

### Caveat

The first run only records a baseline, so change reports are meaningful from the second run onward.

## How to copy portable skills into your WorkBuddy skills folder safely with Agent Skill Sync

Repo: [kina-cmd/agent-skill-sync](https://github.com/kina-cmd/agent-skill-sync) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Dry-run the sync plan, then copy only the skills you choose, with backups for forced updates.

**Who it is for:** A developer moving skills from Codex or Claude Code into WorkBuddy who wants no surprises or deleted files.

**The problem:** Copying skill folders by hand risks overwriting newer copies or pulling in secrets and large virtualenvs.

**The outcome:** A reviewed plan, then a copy of only the A (and optionally B) skills into the target root, with old drifted copies backed up.

### Steps

1. Install the CLI with `pipx install agent-skill-sync`.
2. Run `skillsync sync --dry-run` and read the exact plan it prints.
3. Run `skillsync sync --categories A` to copy only portable skills.
4. If you want to update drifted copies, run `skillsync sync --categories A,B --force`, which backs up the old copy first.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Use the agent-skill-sync repo to sync portable skills into the target root. Run `skillsync sync --dry-run` first, then `skillsync sync --categories A` once the plan looks right. Expected output: a list of copied skills and no deleted files. Verify that `skillsync scan` now shows those skills as identical to the target.
```

### Caveat

Forced updates move the old copy into a backup folder rather than deleting it, but you still need to check the dry-run plan before running with --force.
