Repo: [kishormorol/cli-faq-shortcuts](https://github.com/kishormorol/cli-faq-shortcuts) | Use cases: 3 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/kishormorol-cli-faq-shortcuts/

A local Python history extractor and Agent Skill that finds the prompts you repeat in Claude Code, Codex and Cursor and turns them into reusable slash commands.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to turn repeated agent prompts into slash commands with CLI Faq Shortcuts

Repo: [kishormorol/cli-faq-shortcuts](https://github.com/kishormorol/cli-faq-shortcuts) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Install the skill, find the requests you repeat, and save each one as a short slash command.

**Who it is for:** A developer who retypes the same long request to a coding agent every day in one project.

**The problem:** Long repeated requests cost typing time and get worded differently each session, so results vary.

**The outcome:** Your most repeated asks become named shortcuts in the project, such as /signups or /sent, stored as SKILL.md files your team can share.

### Steps

1. Run `git clone https://github.com/kishormorol/cli-faq-shortcuts ~/.agents/skills/faq-shortcuts`
2. Run `mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && ln -sfn ~/.agents/skills/faq-shortcuts ~/.claude/skills/faq-shortcuts`
3. Open your project in Claude Code, Codex or Cursor in a new session.
4. Ask "what do I keep asking in this project?" or type `/faq-shortcuts` in Claude Code.
5. Pick the asks you want. They are written as shortcuts in that project.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the cli-faq-shortcuts repo, install the faq-shortcuts skill as described in its Quick start, then run /faq-shortcuts in the project at <project_path>. Expected output: a table of repeated asks with how often each was typed. Verify that each chosen shortcut has a SKILL.md under .claude/skills/ in that project.
```

### Caveat

The skill only sees history still stored on your machine, and Cursor chats opened without a folder are skipped.

Risk, credentials: Prompt history can contain names, emails and tokens, and the agent may send prompts to its model provider, so review settings before use.

## How to count and export your repeated prompts with CLI Faq Shortcuts

Repo: [kishormorol/cli-faq-shortcuts](https://github.com/kishormorol/cli-faq-shortcuts) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Run the extractor alone to list, count or export your prompts with no agent involved.

**Who it is for:** A developer or team lead who wants to see how much time goes into repeated requests before picking shortcuts.

**The problem:** Without a count, it is hard to tell which requests are worth turning into shortcuts.

**The outcome:** A list of your matching prompts, a count since a chosen date, and JSONL records you can load into your own scripts.

### Steps

1. Run `E=~/.agents/skills/faq-shortcuts/scripts/extract_asks.py` after the clone step in the Quick start.
2. Run `python3 "$E" . | head` to see the matching prompts in your project folder. (inferred, check the README)
3. Run `python3 "$E" . --since 2026-09-01 | wc -l` to count prompts since a date.
4. Run `python3 "$E" . --format jsonl` to get one JSON record per prompt with date, source and prompt fields.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the cli-faq-shortcuts extractor at ~/.agents/skills/faq-shortcuts/scripts/extract_asks.py, run it on <project_path> with --format jsonl and write the records to a file. Expected output: one JSON object per line with date, source and prompt fields. Verify the file line count matches the count from the default tsv output.
```

### Caveat

Prompts longer than 400 characters are filtered by default, so raise --max-len if your usual requests are longer.

Risk, credentials: The exported JSONL contains raw prompts that may include tokens or personal data, so do not share or commit the output file.

## How to shortcut a repeated status check for your team with CLI Faq Shortcuts

Repo: [kishormorol/cli-faq-shortcuts](https://github.com/kishormorol/cli-faq-shortcuts) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Save a status-check request as a project slash command that reports and never writes.

**Who it is for:** A team member who checks the same send, migration or project status with an agent every week.

**The problem:** The same status question gets re-asked in different words, and earlier agent claims are trusted without checking the record.

**The outcome:** A committed SKILL.md shortcut in the project that points at the scripts the project already uses and reports the outcome directly.

### Steps

1. Install the skill with the Quick start steps.
2. In the project, run `/faq-shortcuts` in Claude Code and pick the status-check ask.
3. Review the generated SKILL.md in .claude/skills/ and confirm it points at scripts your project already has.
4. Add the traps and report format you want, and keep any write or send step behind a dry run and your approval.
5. Commit the new skill folder so teammates get the shortcut.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the project at <project_path>, use the faq-shortcuts skill from cli-faq-shortcuts to create a shortcut for my repeated status check. Expected output: a SKILL.md under .claude/skills/ that names the existing script or query it uses and reports without re-sending. Verify that the shortcut runs its query and reports the result.
```

### Caveat

The generated shortcut is only as accurate as the scripts and queries it finds in your project, so check its query before relying on it.
