# AI use cases for Scrawl (kitlangton/scrawl)

Repo: [kitlangton/scrawl](https://github.com/kitlangton/scrawl) | Use cases: 4 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/kitlangton-scrawl/

Scrawl is a screen recorder that packs a narrated, annotated screen capture into a bundle (contact sheet, keyframes, transcript, manifest) so an AI agent can read it.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to show an agent a bug by recording your screen and voice with Scrawl

Repo: [kitlangton/scrawl](https://github.com/kitlangton/scrawl) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Record a screen problem while narrating and clicking, then paste the bundle into any agent.

**Who it is for:** A developer or designer hitting a UI bug who would rather show the problem than write a long description for an AI agent.

**The problem:** Describing a visual or interaction bug in text takes time and loses detail, so the agent often guesses wrong.

**The outcome:** The agent receives a contact sheet of annotated keyframes and a time-aligned transcript and timeline, and can point to the exact moment that is broken.

### Steps

1. Download the DMG from Scrawl.kitlangton.com, or run `brew install --cask kitlangton/tap/scrawl`.
2. Finish the welcome tour and grant Screen & System Audio Recording, Microphone, and Accessibility.
3. Press `⌥⇧S`, talk through the problem, click around, and draw on the screen with Shift held for ink.
4. Press `⌥⇧S` again to finish, then press `⌥⇧V` to paste the capture.
5. Paste the contact sheet and summary into your agent and ask it to explain the bug.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the Scrawl bundle at <bundle-path>, read contact-sheet.png and summary.md, open the keyframes the narration points to, and list each bug you can see with its timestamp. Verify that every timestamp you cite appears in the summary.md timeline.
```

### Caveat

Scrawl is built for Apple silicon Macs on macOS 26 or later, and the Windows build is an unsigned preview that does not update itself yet.

Risk, credentials: The recording captures everything on screen and in your narration, so passwords, tokens, or private messages visible during the capture end up in the bundle.

## How to let an agent zoom into one moment of a recording with Scrawl

Repo: [kitlangton/scrawl](https://github.com/kitlangton/scrawl) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 45 minutes | Basis: From the README

Give the agent the command set to pull dense frames around a timestamp, a spoken phrase, or a mark.

**Who it is for:** A developer who has an agent reviewing a capture and needs it to inspect a specific second without scrubbing through the whole video.

**The problem:** A contact sheet shows only keyframes, so the detail of a short interaction can be missed.

**The outcome:** The agent pulls a dense set of frames around the moment it cares about and reports what changed.

### Steps

1. Install the agent skill with `bunx skills add kitlangton/scrawl`.
2. Run `scrawl inspect --marks` to list the numbered marks in a capture. (inferred, check the README)
3. Run `scrawl zoom --at 0:12` for a timestamp, or `scrawl zoom --at "a phrase you said"` for a spoken phrase. (inferred, check the README)
4. Run `scrawl frames` on a time range to extract the frames for a closer look. (inferred, check the README)

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Use the scrawl command on the capture at <bundle-path>. Run `scrawl inspect --marks`, then `scrawl zoom --at <timestamp>` for the first mark, and report what happens in those frames. Verify that the reported timestamp matches the summary.md timeline.
```

### Caveat

The zoom and frames commands work on bundles that Scrawl has already made, so you must record at least one capture first.

## How to queue a capture into an OpenCode session with Scrawl

Repo: [kitlangton/scrawl](https://github.com/kitlangton/scrawl) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Send a finished bundle straight into an OpenCode session using the Scrawl send command.

**Who it is for:** A developer working in OpenCode who wants to hand a recorded problem to the session already in progress.

**The problem:** Copying screenshots and notes into a session by hand breaks the flow and drops the narration.

**The outcome:** The contact sheet and summary arrive in the chosen OpenCode session, ready for the agent to act on.

### Steps

1. Record a capture with `⌥⇧S` and finish it with `⌥⇧S` again.
2. Find the session ID in OpenCode.
3. Run `scrawl send <bundle-path> --session <session-id>`. (inferred, check the README)
4. Check that the session shows the contact sheet and summary.md.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Run `scrawl send <bundle-path> --session <session-id>` for the capture at <bundle-path>, then confirm the OpenCode session received the contact sheet and summary.md. Report the session ID you sent to.
```

### Caveat

The README documents sending to OpenCode only, so this path does not cover other agent tools.

## How to export a narrated capture as a shareable MP4 with Scrawl

Repo: [kitlangton/scrawl](https://github.com/kitlangton/scrawl) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 45 minutes | Basis: From the README

Turn a bundle into an MP4 with the activity cropped, ink burned in, audio kept, and optional auto-zoom.

**Who it is for:** A product or support person who needs to share a recorded walkthrough with a teammate or a bug tracker.

**The problem:** A raw screen recording is long and unfocused, and it is hard to send to someone who does not use an agent.

**The outcome:** A short MP4 with the activity cropped to the important area, the marks visible, and the narration intact.

### Steps

1. Install Scrawl and record a capture with `⌥⇧S`.
2. Turn on Video export under Experimental in the Recording pane of Settings.
3. From a source checkout, run `cargo run -- export latest --zoom --out /tmp/demo.mp4`.
4. Open /tmp/demo.mp4 and check the crop, the ink, and the audio before you share it.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the Scrawl repo, run `cargo run -- export latest --zoom --out <output.mp4>` and report the output path and duration. Verify that the MP4 plays with audio and that the ink marks are visible.
```

### Caveat

Video export sits under Experimental in Settings and needs a source build or that setting turned on, so check that it is available in your build first.

Risk, credentials: An exported MP4 shows the screen and narration as recorded, so anything sensitive on screen is shared with whoever receives the file.
