Repo: [KittenML/KittenTTS](https://github.com/KittenML/KittenTTS) | Use cases: 3 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/kittenml-kittentts/

Kitten-TTS is an open-source family of text-to-speech models, including the 1.7B 1-bit Kitten-TTS 2 with voice cloning and expression control and lightweight 15M to 80M models that run on CPU.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## Kitten TTS tutorial: add local text to speech to a Python app

Repo: [KittenML/KittenTTS](https://github.com/KittenML/KittenTTS) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Install kittenml, load Kitten-TTS 2 and write speech to a WAV file with a preset voice.

**Who it is for:** A developer building a voice assistant prototype on a laptop without a GPU.

**The problem:** Cloud TTS adds latency, cost and a dependency.

**The outcome:** WAV files generated locally from text with a chosen voice.

### Steps

1. Install with `pip install kittenml`
2. Load the model with Kitten TTS("KittenML/kitten-tts-2")
3. Call generate with your text and a voice such as WeatherPresenterCheerful
4. Write the audio with soundfile at m.sample_rate

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using KittenML/KittenTTS, install kittenml, generate <text> with voice "Matthew" and save output.wav. Confirm the file plays and its sample rate equals m.sample_rate.
```

### Caveat

Use weights="emb4" to halve the download if bandwidth or disk is tight.

## How to narrate content in your own cloned voice with Kitten TTS

Repo: [KittenML/KittenTTS](https://github.com/KittenML/KittenTTS) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Pass a short reference clip of your voice, plus its transcript to skip Whisper, and generate new speech.

**Who it is for:** A course creator who wants consistent narration without recording every lesson.

**The problem:** Re-recording narration for every script change takes hours.

**The outcome:** New narration in your own voice from text.

### Steps

1. Install kittenml and load Kitten-TTS 2
2. Record a clean reference clip as my_voice.wav
3. Call generate with reference="my_voice.wav" and reference_text set to what you said
4. Listen and adjust with the expressive preset if needed

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
With KittenTTS, clone the voice in <my_voice.wav> using its transcript and narrate <script>. Verify the output sounds like the reference and contains every sentence.
```

### Caveat

Supplying reference_text skips the Whisper pass, which is faster and avoids transcription errors.

Risk, voice cloning: Only clone your own voice or one you have explicit permission to use.

## How to control emotion and emphasis in generated speech with Kitten TTS

Repo: [KittenML/KittenTTS](https://github.com/KittenML/KittenTTS) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use bracket tags like [joyful] and the expressive preset to shape delivery.

**Who it is for:** A game developer voicing characters who need different moods.

**The problem:** Flat TTS delivery breaks immersion.

**The outcome:** Lines delivered with the emotion and emphasis you mark up.

### Steps

1. Install kittenml and load Kitten-TTS 2
2. Write lines with tags such as [joyful] and emphasis like (((hardly)))
3. Generate with preset="expressive" and a voice such as Kiki
4. Compare with the default preset for stability

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Generate three versions of <line> with KittenTTS using different expression tags and preset "expressive", save each to a WAV, and describe how they differ.
```

### Caveat

The README notes the preset trades stability against expressiveness.
