SkillBuddy is an Electron desktop app plus an skm CLI that inventories, installs and syncs Skills, MCP servers and AI instruction files across AI coding agents.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to see every skill and MCP server across your agents with Skill Buddy

Repo: [konnga/skill-buddy](https://github.com/konnga/skill-buddy) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Open one dashboard that discovers Skills, MCP servers and instruction files from all detected agents.

**Who it is for:** A developer who uses Claude Code, Codex and Cursor and has lost track of what each one loads.

**The problem:** Skills and MCP configs are scattered across different tool folders.

**The outcome:** A unified inventory with drift warnings and per-agent comparisons.

### Steps

1. Install the desktop app for your OS
2. On macOS clear quarantine with `xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/SkillBuddy.app`
3. Open the Dashboard to see detected agents and drift warnings
4. Use the Skills page to compare what each agent actually loads

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Open konnga/skill-buddy and list every Skill and MCP server it detects per agent. Flag any drift warnings and confirm which agents are missing a skill the others have.
```

### Caveat

Removing the macOS quarantine flag bypasses Gatekeeper, so only do it for a build you trust.

## How to share reviewed team skills through a Git repository with Skill Buddy

Repo: [konnga/skill-buddy](https://github.com/konnga/skill-buddy) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 45 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use the team library to sync Git-managed skills, review policy status and assign role bundles.

**Who it is for:** A team lead who wants every engineer's agent to load the same approved skills.

**The problem:** Copying skill folders by hand leads to version drift across the team.

**The outcome:** One Git-backed library that SkillBuddy distributes to each agent.

### Steps

1. Create a Git repository for team skills
2. Add it in the Team library page
3. Review policy status and configure role bundles
4. Sync and confirm each agent received the bundle

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In skill-buddy, connect <git repo> as the team library, sync it, and report which skills were installed to which agents. Verify nothing outside the bundle was changed.
```

### Caveat

An optional self-hosted registry exists, but the team library works directly from Git.

## How to back up your skills and presets to Git with Skill Buddy

Repo: [konnga/skill-buddy](https://github.com/konnga/skill-buddy) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use the Data page to back up user Skills and Presets to Git and restore a previous configuration.

**Who it is for:** A developer about to reinstall a machine or switch laptops.

**The problem:** Agent customizations are easy to lose in a reinstall.

**The outcome:** A restorable backup of skills, presets and settings.

### Steps

1. Open the Data page
2. Back up user Skills and Presets to a Git repository
3. Export settings
4. On the new machine, restore the previous configuration

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using skill-buddy, back up all user Skills and Presets to <git repo>, then list what was saved. Confirm the backup commit exists in the remote.
```

### Caveat

Backups include only user-scope resources; check project-local skills separately on the Project Skills page.
