Repo: [lcoutodemos/chums](https://github.com/lcoutodemos/chums) | Use cases: 4 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/lcoutodemos-chums/

Chums is a free, open source set of apps and a hub that lets you talk to Claude Code and Codex agents running on your Mac from an Apple Watch and an iPhone.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to talk to a Claude Code agent from your Apple Watch with Chums

Repo: [lcoutodemos/chums](https://github.com/lcoutodemos/chums) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 1 hour | Basis: From the README

Hold the watch screen, say a request, and get your Mac's Claude Code agent to act on it.

**Who it is for:** A developer who has Claude Code running on a Mac and wants to give it instructions away from the desk, for example while walking or away from the keyboard.

**The problem:** Claude Code only takes input at the Mac, so any follow-up request means going back to the desk.

**The outcome:** You can speak a request on the watch, the Mac transcribes it and sends it to the agent, and the watch shows the character's state and tool calls as the agent works.

### Steps

1. Clone the repo and enter it: `git clone https://github.com/lcoutodemos/chums.git && cd chums`
2. Check requirements and install packages, the Whisper model and the agents' voices: `bin/chums-setup`
3. Start the hub in its own terminal: `bin/chums-hub`
4. Publish the watch API with Tailscale Funnel (sign in the first time): `bin/chums-tunnel`
5. Build and install the watch and iPhone apps: `bin/chums-install`
6. Run each character's Claude Code agent in the background: `bin/chums-agents install`

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Clone https://github.com/lcoutodemos/chums into <target-folder> and follow its AGENTS.md to set up Chums on this Mac. Expected output: the hub running and a Claude Code agent started for the watch. Verify by running bin/chums-doctor from the repo and confirming it reports no failures.
```

### Caveat

The first setup takes 20 to 30 minutes plus up to half an hour of waiting for Xcode and a new Funnel address to reach public DNS.

Risk, credentials: The hub's watch API is published to the internet through Tailscale Funnel and protected only by a watch token, so you should read SECURITY.md before you enable it.

## How to approve or deny agent actions from your wrist with Chums

Repo: [lcoutodemos/chums](https://github.com/lcoutodemos/chums) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 1 hour | Basis: From the README

Get a card on the watch when an agent asks for permission and allow or deny it in one motion.

**Who it is for:** A developer who lets a Claude Code or Codex agent run long tasks and is away from the Mac when it reaches a permission prompt.

**The problem:** An agent waiting for permission stalls until someone at the Mac answers, which can waste a long run.

**The outcome:** When the agent asks for permission, the watch shows the Approval state, and you hold the card to allow it or tap the cross to deny it.

### Steps

1. Complete the install with `bin/chums-install` and start the agents with `bin/chums-agents install`
2. Open Chums once at the Mac and grant the agents' permissions: `bin/chums-permissions`, then click Allow All
3. Keep the hub running in the background: `bin/chums-setup --launchd` (stop the terminal's hub first with Ctrl-C)
4. Wait for the Approval state on the watch when an agent asks for permission
5. Hold the card to allow the action, or tap × to deny it

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the chums repo at <target-folder>, run bin/chums-permissions and confirm the permissions step completed for the agents. Expected output: the agents' permissions granted once. Verify by checking that bin/chums-doctor reports the permission check as passing.
```

### Caveat

Approvals only reach your wrist while the hub is running and the watch can reach the Mac through the published Funnel address.

Risk, credentials: Clicking Allow All grants the agents' permissions once, so approvals from the watch can authorize actions on your Mac without another prompt.

## How to run a Codex agent next to your Claude Code agents with Chums

Repo: [lcoutodemos/chums](https://github.com/lcoutodemos/chums) | Difficulty: Advanced | Time: 1 hour | Basis: From the README

Switch one character from Claude Code to Codex and follow its terminal on the Mac.

**Who it is for:** A developer who uses both Claude Code and Codex and wants to pick the right agent per task from the same watch.

**The problem:** Each coding agent usually lives in its own terminal, so you cannot manage them together from one place.

**The outcome:** Each agent is its own session and character, you can switch between them on the watch, and a Codex agent can be followed and typed into on the Mac.

### Steps

1. Install Codex CLI and sign it in, then complete the main setup with `bin/chums-setup`
2. On the watch, swipe the agent's row left in the agents list and choose Runs on, then pick Codex
3. Open a Codex terminal on the same conversation: `bin/chums-codex`
4. Tap the faces at the top left of the watch to switch agents before you speak
5. Check the whole chain after switching: `bin/chums-doctor`

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the chums repo at <target-folder>, run bin/chums-codex and confirm a Codex terminal opens on the same conversation as the watch agent. Expected output: a Codex session you can follow on the Mac. Verify with bin/chums-doctor that the Codex path reports no failures.
```

### Caveat

The README describes Codex agents as run by the hub through Codex's app-server protocol, and other agents such as Copilot are experimental.

## How to review agent output and charts on your iPhone with Chums

Repo: [lcoutodemos/chums](https://github.com/lcoutodemos/chums) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 1 hour | Basis: From the README

Read the same agent conversations on iPhone and open charts, pages and files the agent made.

**Who it is for:** A developer who asks an agent to build a chart, report or document and wants to view and touch it on a phone instead of the Mac.

**The problem:** Output the agent produces, such as charts or PDFs, is hard to review from a watch, and it stays stuck on the Mac.

**The outcome:** You get the same agents and conversations on the iPhone, can type or talk, send photos and files, and open live charts, web pages, PDFs and documents.

### Steps

1. Install the iPhone app with the rest of the apps: `bin/chums-install`
2. Open the iPhone app and pick the agent whose conversation you want to review
3. Ask the agent for a chart, page or document to be made
4. Drag across a live chart or switch what it shows; open PDFs, tables, videos or Office files in the app
5. Run `bin/chums-doctor` if the iPhone cannot reach the hub

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the chums repo at <target-folder>, run bin/chums-doctor and report whether the iPhone app can reach the hub with the same address and token. Expected output: a read-only check of the whole chain with a fix for each failure. Verify that the hub check passes before using the iPhone app.
```

### Caveat

The iPhone app is built from source and signed with your own Apple ID, and a free Personal Team install expires after 7 days.
