Repo: [Louis-CFM/coucou](https://github.com/Louis-CFM/coucou) | Use cases: 5 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/louis-cfm-coucou/

Coucou is an open source Mac notch app (with Windows, Linux and Android parts) that shows your AI coding agent sessions, lets you approve their permission requests, and adds voice dictation, call notes and an iPhone companion.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to approve Claude Code permissions from the notch with Coucou

Repo: [Louis-CFM/coucou](https://github.com/Louis-CFM/coucou) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Watch Claude Code sessions in the Mac notch and allow or deny its permission requests without switching windows.

**Who it is for:** A developer running Claude Code on a Mac who keeps losing focus waiting for permission prompts in the terminal.

**The problem:** Claude Code pauses on each permission request, and the developer has to find the right terminal window to answer it.

**The outcome:** Permission requests appear in the notch with Allow, Deny and Always buttons, and the session keeps moving after one click.

### Steps

1. Download and open the Coucou Mac app from the releases page linked in the README.
2. Connect Claude Code to Coucou using the hook setup described in docs/AGENTS.md.
3. Start a Claude Code session on a task that needs file edits or shell commands.
4. When a permission request appears in the notch, click Allow, Deny or Always.
5. If a question needs more detail, choose Reply in terminal to fall back to the CLI.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the Louis-CFM/coucou repo, follow docs/AGENTS.md to connect Claude Code on <target machine> to the Coucou notch app. Expected output: a permission request from a Claude Code session appears in the notch with Allow, Deny and Always buttons. Verify by triggering a request that needs a file edit and confirming the buttons respond.
```

### Caveat

The README does not give a step-by-step hook install command, so the connection steps depend on the setup guide in docs/AGENTS.md.

Risk, credentials: Approving a permission lets the agent run commands or edit files on your machine, so only allow requests you have read.

## How to track coding agents and approve them from iPhone with Coucou

Repo: [Louis-CFM/coucou](https://github.com/Louis-CFM/coucou) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 45 minutes | Basis: From the README

See agent progress on your iPhone Lock Screen and approve permissions with Face ID when you step away from your Mac.

**Who it is for:** A developer who starts long agent runs on a Mac and leaves the desk while they work.

**The problem:** Agents stall on permission prompts while the developer is away, and there is no way to see or approve them from a phone.

**The outcome:** The Mac session moves to the iPhone Lock Screen and Dynamic Island, and each permission can be approved with Face ID.

### Steps

1. Set up Coucou on the Mac and sign in with the iCloud account used by the iPhone app.
2. Install the Coucou iPhone app and allow notifications.
3. Start an agent session on the Mac, such as Codex, Cursor or Gemini CLI.
4. Lock the Mac and watch the agent state in the Live Activity on the iPhone.
5. Tap Allow or Deny from the Lock Screen and confirm with Face ID.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the Louis-CFM/coucou repo, set up the Coucou Mac app and iPhone app so that a Codex session on <target Mac> shows as a Live Activity on <target iPhone>. Expected output: the agent state appears on the Lock Screen, and an Allow tap is confirmed with Face ID. Verify that the Mac applies only the decision for the request it is waiting on.
```

### Caveat

The README does not list the iPhone app install route or the setup for iCloud sync, so those steps need to be checked in the repo before use.

Risk, credentials: Remote approvals from a phone can start actions on your Mac, so only approve requests you recognize and keep Face ID enabled.

## How to dictate text into any Mac app with a held key with Coucou

Repo: [Louis-CFM/coucou](https://github.com/Louis-CFM/coucou) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Hold a key, speak, and have your words pasted where you type, in any app on the Mac.

**Who it is for:** A developer or writer who types long messages, prompts or notes and wants to speak them instead.

**The problem:** Typing long prompts, commit messages or emails takes time, and most dictation tools cost money or send audio to a server.

**The outcome:** Spoken words are pasted into the active app, and with Parakeet they are transcribed on the Mac without leaving the machine.

### Steps

1. Open the Coucou Mac app and go to Flow dictation.
2. Pick the key to hold, such as right ⌥, fn, right ⌘ or right ⌃.
3. Click one-time download for Parakeet if you want offline recognition on Apple silicon.
4. Click into any text field, hold the key, speak, then let go.
5. Use ⌃⌘V to paste the last dictation again if needed.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the Louis-CFM/coucou repo, enable Flow dictation in the Coucou Mac app and set it to use Parakeet on <target Mac>. Expected output: a short spoken sentence is pasted into a text field in another app. Verify that the clipboard contents from before the dictation are restored afterwards.
```

### Caveat

Flow dictation and the Notetaker are Mac only for now, and Parakeet needs about 650 MB and an Apple silicon Mac.

## How to track Claude and Codex plan limits in the notch with Coucou

Repo: [Louis-CFM/coucou](https://github.com/Louis-CFM/coucou) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

See your 5-hour and weekly Claude limits and Codex limits in small pills in the notch header.

**Who it is for:** A developer on a Claude Pro or Max plan, or using Codex, who wants to avoid hitting usage limits mid-task.

**The problem:** Plan limits are hard to check during a coding session, and running out mid-task breaks the workflow.

**The outcome:** Current Claude and Codex plan usage is visible at a glance in the notch header while agents run.

### Steps

1. Open Coucou and go to Settings, then Agents.
2. Turn on Plan usage for Claude in the Plan usage section.
3. Turn on Plan usage for Codex in the same section.
4. Check the small pills in the notch header for your 5-hour and weekly limits.
5. Check the Codex pill for remaining free resets.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the Louis-CFM/coucou repo, enable the Claude and Codex plan usage pills in the Coucou Mac app on <target Mac>. Expected output: the notch header shows a Claude pill with 5-hour and weekly limits and a Codex pill with its limits. Verify that the pills match the limits shown in your Claude and Codex accounts.
```

### Caveat

The Claude pill is for Pro and Max plans only, and both usage pills are macOS GitHub build features.

## How to get call transcripts and to-dos without a meeting bot with Coucou

Repo: [Louis-CFM/coucou](https://github.com/Louis-CFM/coucou) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Record a call from your Mac with no bot in the meeting, then get a transcript, summary and to-dos.

**Who it is for:** A team member who attends many calls and wants notes and action items without inviting a recording bot.

**The problem:** Meeting bots are visible to everyone on the call, and taking notes by hand while talking is hard.

**The outcome:** A transcript per speaker, a summary, key points and to-dos are written after the call, and the audio is deleted once the transcript is written.

### Steps

1. Open the Coucou Mac app and go to Notetaker.
2. Add your Claude API key or enable Apple Intelligence on your Mac for the summary.
3. Click Record a call before the meeting starts.
4. Tell the people in the call that you are recording.
5. Open the finished transcript, summary, key points and to-dos after the call.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the Louis-CFM/coucou repo, set up the Notetaker in the Coucou Mac app on <target Mac> to record a call and write a summary with Claude or Apple Intelligence. Expected output: a transcript by person, a summary and a to-do list. Verify that the audio file is removed after the transcript is written.
```

### Caveat

Recording a call needs consent from the people in it, and the README only says the Notetaker is on the Mac for now.
