Repo: [lsaint/aikito](https://github.com/lsaint/aikito) | Use cases: 3 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/lsaint-aikito/

Aikito is a CLI workspace that governs the instructions, skills, MCP servers, subagents and memory your coding agents share across projects, operating systems and machines.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to bring all your agent configs into one workspace with Aikito

Repo: [lsaint/aikito](https://github.com/lsaint/aikito) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 20 minutes | Basis: From the README

Install Aikito, create one personal Git workspace, adopt the instructions, skills, MCP servers and memory your agents already use, and sync them back out.

**Who it is for:** A developer using several coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, Copilot, OpenCode, Pi and others) across many projects.

**The problem:** Each agent invents its own folders and memory formats, so skills and instructions get copied between projects and drift apart.

**The outcome:** One workspace at ~/aikito holding instructions, skills, MCPs, subagents and durable memory, connected to every agent and project, with a status table to check.

### Steps

1. Install: `uv tool install aikito`, or `brew install lsaint/tap/aikito`
2. Create the workspace: `aikito init workspace ~/aikito`
3. Preview what would be adopted with Aikito adopt --dry-run
4. Adopt your existing setup with `aikito adopt`; it preflights the whole plan before writing
5. Push resources back to each agent with `aikito sync`
6. Check every project and agent with `aikito status`, or open the browser view with Aikito web

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Install and configure Aikito from https://github.com/lsaint/aikito. Inspect the agent configuration I already use, initialize the Aikito workspace, adopt supported existing resources, synchronize them, and verify the result with aikito status. Ask before using --skip, --force or --prune.
```

### Caveat

Starting from scratch? Skip Aikito adopt. On Windows, enable Developer Mode first.

## How to keep agent context in sync across machines with Aikito

Repo: [lsaint/aikito](https://github.com/lsaint/aikito) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Version your Aikito workspace with Git and sync it on each machine, so every computer gets the same skills, instructions and durable memory.

**Who it is for:** A developer who codes on a laptop, a desktop and maybe a Windows or Linux box, and wants their agents to know the same things everywhere.

**The problem:** Agent memory and skills live in per-machine folders, so lessons learned on one computer never reach the others.

**The outcome:** The same instructions, skills, MCPs and memory notes on every machine and OS, kept as plain Markdown in one Git repository.

### Steps

1. Set up the workspace on the first machine with `aikito init workspace ~/aikito` and `aikito sync`
2. The workspace is a local Git repository; review it for secrets before pushing it to a private remote
3. On the second machine install Aikito with `uv tool install aikito` and clone the workspace
4. Run `aikito sync` there to connect resources to that machine's agents
5. Compare `aikito status` on both machines
6. Let agents record verified conclusions with the bundled durable-memory skill, then commit and pull as usual

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Help me move my Aikito workspace at ~/aikito to a private Git remote: check it for secrets first, push it, then give me the exact commands to set it up on my <second OS> machine and verify with aikito status.
```

### Caveat

You govern secrets: Aikito does not stop you from pushing a key that sits in the workspace.

## How to let your coding agent install and configure Aikito with Aikito

Repo: [lsaint/aikito](https://github.com/lsaint/aikito) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Paste the setup prompt from Aikito's README into your coding agent and let it inspect your current setup, adopt it and verify the result, asking before risky flags.

**Who it is for:** A developer who prefers to have their agent do setup work but wants it done safely and explained.

**The problem:** Setting up a new config manager means reading docs and guessing which existing files are safe to adopt.

**The outcome:** Aikito installed and configured by your agent, with a preserved setup, no project registered without your confirmation, and an Aikito status check at the end.

### Steps

1. Open your coding agent in any folder
2. Paste the README prompt that starts: Install and configure Aikito from https://github.com/lsaint/aikito
3. Let it read the README and the bundled SKILL.md before acting
4. Review the preflight plans that adopt and sync print, and approve them
5. Answer its questions if a step stops on a conflict; it should not use --force or --prune without asking
6. Check the final `aikito status` table yourself

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Install and configure Aikito from https://github.com/lsaint/aikito. Read the README and src/aikito/templates/skills/aikito/SKILL.md. Preserve my current setup, do not register a project without my confirmation, and if there is nothing to adopt, skip that step and tell me.
```

### Caveat

Review the agent's plan before it writes; adopt and sync preflight but still change files.
