OpenTrade-agent is a macOS app that lets Claude Code or Codex agents trade and react to the market in a Robinhood Agentic Trading account through the official MCP.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to run guardrailed agents on a Robinhood account with OpenTrade Agent

Repo: [MariusOTB/OpenTrade-Agent](https://github.com/MariusOTB/OpenTrade-Agent) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 60 minutes | Basis: From the README

Let agents place and cancel orders under approval modes and turn limits you set.

**Who it is for:** An active trader with a Robinhood Agentic Trading account who wants an agent to act only within set limits.

**The problem:** Letting an agent trade a live account with no order approval or turn limits is risky.

**The outcome:** Agents place orders only under the approval mode and background turn limits you set, with per-agent order accounting.

### Steps

1. Download the latest `OpenTrade-agent- -arm64.dmg` from Releases, open it, and drag OpenTrade-agent to Applications.
2. Install and sign into the `claude` and/or `codex` CLI, then connect the Robinhood MCP following the Robinhood instructions.
3. Open the app and choose manual or auto order approval and background turn limits for each agent.
4. Start one agent and check its orders in per-agent order accounting before raising any limit.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the MariusOTB/OpenTrade-Agent repo, list the guardrail settings for the agent named <agent name>, including order approval mode and background turn limit. Expected output: a short list of those values. Verify that each value matches what the app shows before any order is allowed.
```

### Caveat

The README says agents can place and cancel real orders and that you alone bear the financial consequences of your agents.

Risk, credentials: The Robinhood MCP connection uses your authenticated brokerage access, so keep that session on your own machine and out of shared setups.

## How to have agents watch markets on a schedule with OpenTrade Agent

Repo: [MariusOTB/OpenTrade-Agent](https://github.com/MariusOTB/OpenTrade-Agent) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 60 minutes | Basis: From the README

Schedule agents to check market events on a timer or trigger, even with the app closed.

**Who it is for:** A trader who wants an agent to react to market events outside working hours.

**The problem:** Watching markets around the clock by hand is not practical.

**The outcome:** Agents run periodic checks or react to events through background scripts and keep working when the app is closed.

### Steps

1. Download the latest `OpenTrade-agent- -arm64.dmg` from Releases, open it, and drag OpenTrade-agent to Applications.
2. Install and sign into the `claude` and/or `codex` CLI, then connect the Robinhood MCP following the Robinhood instructions.
3. Ask the agent to schedule a periodic check or an event-triggered background script for the market event you care about.
4. Set a background turn limit for the agent before you leave it running.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the MariusOTB/OpenTrade-Agent repo, set up a periodic check for <market event or ticker> for the agent named <agent name>. Expected output: a confirmation of the schedule and the event trigger. Verify that the schedule appears in the app and that the agent reports its first check.
```

### Caveat

The README does not describe which market data the event triggers use, so confirm that before relying on one.

## How to split a portfolio across several agents with OpenTrade Agent

Repo: [MariusOTB/OpenTrade-Agent](https://github.com/MariusOTB/OpenTrade-Agent) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 60 minutes | Basis: From the README

Give each strategy its own agent and track each agent's orders separately.

**Who it is for:** A trader with several strategies who wants each one run by a separate agent.

**The problem:** One agent running many strategies makes it hard to see which strategy placed which order.

**The outcome:** Each strategy runs under its own agent, and per-agent order accounting shows the orders for each one.

### Steps

1. Download the latest `OpenTrade-agent- -arm64.dmg` from Releases, open it, and drag OpenTrade-agent to Applications.
2. Install and sign into the `claude` and/or `codex` CLI, then connect the Robinhood MCP following the Robinhood instructions.
3. Create one agent in the app for each strategy you want to delegate.
4. Set separate guardrails for each agent, then compare their per-agent order accounting each day.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the MariusOTB/OpenTrade-Agent repo, create an agent named <strategy name> with its own guardrails. Expected output: the new agent listed with its own order accounting. Verify that orders placed by this agent are not counted under any other agent.
```

### Caveat

The README does not state how many agents the app supports, so test with a small number first.
