MemoraX Code is a memory plugin for AI coding agents that carries engineering lessons, repository knowledge, and working preferences into later sessions.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to resume a coding task with lessons from earlier sessions with Memorax Code

Repo: [memorax-ai/memorax-code](https://github.com/memorax-ai/memorax-code) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 min | Basis: From the README

Recall verified fixes and failed approaches from past work before a new session starts changing code.

**Who it is for:** A developer returning to a bug or feature in a repository after days or weeks, when a new agent session has no memory of the earlier attempts.

**The problem:** A new session often starts without the failed attempts, design rationale, and pitfalls established in earlier work, so the agent repeats old mistakes.

**The outcome:** The agent starts with the small set of saved engineering lessons relevant to the current task and reaches useful investigation sooner.

### Steps

1. Run `npm install -g @memorax/memorax-code` to install the package.
2. Run `memorax-code setup` in a normal terminal for guest mode, or `memorax-code setup --existing-account` if you have a MemoraX account.
3. Restart or refresh your coding agent so the managed plugin and Hooks load.
4. Open the project, start a new session, and send one prompt.
5. Run `memorax-code status` and `memorax-cli status` from the project directory; a Hook that has run should change to hook-runtime=observed.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the <project path> repository, use the MemoraX Code skill to recall prior engineering lessons about <task area> before you edit anything. List each lesson you retrieved and state which one you will apply first. Verify that the list comes from the memory search result, not from your own assumptions.
```

### Caveat

Search and writeback need network access, and Linux guest credentials depend on libsecret and a running Secret Service session.

## How to onboard to a repository with Repo Memory with Memorax Code

Repo: [memorax-ai/memorax-code](https://github.com/memorax-ai/memorax-code) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 min | Basis: From the README

Build repository knowledge from recent issues, pull requests, and commits before making changes.

**Who it is for:** An engineer or agent joining an unfamiliar repository who needs the architecture, module ownership, and recent history before the first task.

**The problem:** Reading a large repository from scratch takes time, and recent decisions recorded in issues and pull requests are easy to miss.

**The outcome:** The agent builds a Repo Memory record from the latest issues, pull requests, and commits and uses it to suggest where to investigate.

### Steps

1. Install and set up MemoraX Code with `npm install -g @memorax/memorax-code` and `memorax-code setup`.
2. Open the target repository in Codex, Claude Code, or Cursor and start a new session.
3. Ask the agent to use the MemoraX Code skill to build Repo Memory, retrieving only the latest 3 issues, pull requests, and commits.
4. Ask the agent to summarize the architecture, entry points, and module ownership it found in Repo Memory.
5. Close the session, start a new one in the same repository, and ask the agent to recall the Repo Memory summary.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Use the MemoraX Code skill to build Repo Memory for the <repository name> repository, retrieving only the latest 3 issues, pull requests, and commits. Report the architecture map, entry points, and module ownership you found. Verify that each claim is tied to an issue, pull request, or commit in the retrieved records.
```

### Caveat

Repo Memory is built from the retrieved issues, pull requests, and commits, so older history outside the requested window may not appear.

## How to carry your preferences and procedures into new sessions with Memorax Code

Repo: [memorax-ai/memorax-code](https://github.com/memorax-ai/memorax-code) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 min | Basis: From the README

Keep your language, tone, and checklist habits available to the agent in every new session.

**Who it is for:** A developer who wants the agent to explain results the same way and follow the same review steps across projects and sessions.

**The problem:** Each new session starts without your preferred explanation depth, result format, or the step-by-step procedures you reuse.

**The outcome:** The agent applies your saved User Profile preferences and reusable Procedure Memory on new tasks without you restating them.

### Steps

1. Set up MemoraX Code with `memorax-code setup` and restart your coding agent.
2. In a new session, ask the agent to use the MemoraX Code skill to remember a preference such as your preferred result format.
3. Ask the agent to remember a reusable procedure, including its steps, prerequisites, and validation gate.
4. Open a different project in the same client and start a new session with one prompt.
5. Check that the preference and procedure were applied, and correct any saved entry that does not match what you wanted.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Use the MemoraX Code skill to remember my preferred result format and my review procedure for <task type>. In a new session in <project path>, apply both before you answer and list which saved preference and procedure you used. Verify that the procedure's validation gate is stated in your answer.
```

### Caveat

Personal Memory and Procedure Memory are global to your user account on the machine, and restoration after a compaction during the same task is not guaranteed.

## How to move your MemoraX setup to a second device with Memorax Code

Repo: [memorax-ai/memorax-code](https://github.com/memorax-ai/memorax-code) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 min | Basis: From the README

Connect a new machine to your MemoraX account by entering the saved username and API key locally.

**Who it is for:** A developer who uses MemoraX Code on one machine and wants the same memory on a laptop or workstation.

**The problem:** A second device has no MemoraX Code configuration, so its coding agent cannot read or write the same memory.

**The outcome:** The new device is connected to your account and reports the local integration status without exposing the API key.

### Steps

1. On the configured device, open `~/.memorax-code/config.toml` and copy the username and API key into your password manager, without pasting them into chats or project files.
2. On the new device, run `npm install -g @memorax/memorax-code` to install the package.
3. In a normal interactive terminal on the new device, run `memorax-code setup --existing-account` and enter the username and API key locally.
4. Restart or refresh each detected coding agent on the new device.
5. Run `memorax-code status` from the project directory to check the local Backend and client integrations.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
On this machine, run `memorax-code status` from the <project path> directory and report the status of each detected client integration. Do not print, copy, or move the API key. Verify that the output shows whether each Hook runtime is observed or unverified.
```

### Caveat

The README asks you to enter credentials in a local terminal on the new device, and non-interactive setup should only receive the key through stdin from a caller that already holds it.

Risk, credentials: The API key in config.toml grants access to your MemoraX account, so keep it private and never paste it into chats, public issues, or project files.
