OpenMausBot is an open-source chat app where each bot is a local Claude, Codex or Grok agent with its own model, cloud computer and connected apps.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to install a complete bot team from one Markdown file with Open Maus Bot

Repo: [milind-soni/OpenMausBot](https://github.com/milind-soni/OpenMausBot) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Import a team playbook, review it, and get bots, channels and paused routines in one pass.

**Who it is for:** A founder or ops lead who needs a ready-made agent team for a recurring job, such as weekly reporting, without building each bot by hand.

**The problem:** Setting up several bots, channels, playbooks and app connections one at a time takes hours and is easy to get wrong.

**The outcome:** A reviewed team of bots and channels running in the app, with connections off and routines paused until you approve them.

### Steps

1. Open Teams and choose Import, or browse teams on BotMRR and choose Add to Open Maus Bot.
2. Paste the public GitHub URL of the team .md file, or import the same file from disk.
3. Read the review screen: bots, Chief of Staff, channels, playbooks, connector checklist and suggested routines.
4. Approve only the connections you want; they stay off until you approve them.
5. Resume a suggested routine only when you are ready, since routines arrive paused.

```text
Using the OpenMausBot repo at github.com/milind-soni/OpenMausBot, import the team file at <team-md-url> through Teams → Import and list the bots, channels and connectors it would create. Expected output: a short list of those items with a note on which connections are off by default. Verify that no routine is active before you finish.
```

### Caveat

Packages never carry credentials, but the bots still run on the claude, codex or grok CLI already installed on your machine.

Risk, credentials: Connected apps such as Gmail or Slack use OAuth, so review each connection before you approve it.

## How to share a configured bot team as one file with Open Maus Bot

Repo: [milind-soni/OpenMausBot](https://github.com/milind-soni/OpenMausBot) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Save a working team as one file a colleague can import without your chat history or keys.

**Who it is for:** A person who has built a working bot setup and wants a teammate to start from the same bots, channels and instructions.

**The problem:** Rebuilding a working team by hand for a colleague wastes time and invites mistakes in instructions and channel setup.

**The outcome:** A team file that the colleague imports as new bots on Ask, with skills switched off and routines paused.

### Steps

1. Right-click the team and choose Share team…, or use Templates → Share.
2. Untick any starter notes you do not want to include.
3. Read the dialog, which shows exactly what the file holds, before you save it.
4. Send the saved file to your colleague.
5. Your colleague imports the file and reviews the new bots, which start on Ask with skills off and routines paused.

```text
Using the OpenMausBot repo at github.com/milind-soni/OpenMausBot, export the team named <team-name> with Share team and list every item the dialog says the file contains. Expected output: that list and the file path. Verify that the list contains no chat history, keys, passwords or model choices.
```

### Caveat

The README says chat history, keys, passwords, model choices and computers never go in the file, but you should still check the dialog before saving.

## How to let a bot work on your Mac with approval on each step with Open Maus Bot

Repo: [milind-soni/OpenMausBot](https://github.com/milind-soni/OpenMausBot) | Difficulty: Advanced | Time: 45 minutes | Basis: From the README

Point a bot at your own computer and approve or deny each risky action as an inline card.

**Who it is for:** A solo operator on macOS or Ubuntu Xorg who wants a bot to handle a local task while they watch and decide on each sensitive step.

**The problem:** A bot that acts on a real computer can run commands or edit files without a clear checkpoint, which is risky without oversight.

**The outcome:** A local task completed by a bot where every shell command, file edit and question appeared as a card you chose to allow or deny.

### Steps

1. Install the Open Maus Bot app on macOS, or on Ubuntu with Xorg rather than Wayland.
2. Open the Computer panel and choose the option to point the bot at this Mac, after you explicitly opt in to host control.
3. Give the bot one narrow task and watch the live screen preview while it works.
4. Read each Allow or Deny card in chat before you respond to it.
5. Turn host control off again when the task is done.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the OpenMausBot repo at github.com/milind-soni/OpenMausBot, set up one bot to run the task <task-description> on this Mac after explicit host control opt-in. Expected output: a log of each approval card and the decision made on it. Verify that no action ran without a recorded Allow.
```

### Caveat

Ubuntu Wayland host control is disabled while issue #345 is resolved, so use Ubuntu Xorg or macOS for this flow.

Risk, credentials: A bot with host control on this Mac can reach anything you allow it to, so keep the task narrow and keep stored keys out of its reach.

## How to hear overnight bot results read aloud with Open Maus Bot

Repo: [milind-soni/OpenMausBot](https://github.com/milind-soni/OpenMausBot) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Turn on spoken replies so a bot reads its answers as they land, using a voice you pick.

**Who it is for:** A busy operator who runs bots overnight or while away from the screen and wants to hear the results.

**The problem:** Long bot runs produce text that is slow to read through, so results go unnoticed until someone opens the chat.

**The outcome:** Each bot reads its replies aloud with its own voice, and you can call a bot to ask about its work.

### Steps

1. Open the agent profile for the bot and choose a voice provider: ElevenLabs, Fish Audio, Grok (xAI), built-in Mac voices, or a local Chatterbox server.
2. For a cloud provider, paste the key once; for Grok, save your xAI API key in Settings → Connections first.
3. Pick a voice under Voice & alerts for that bot.
4. Switch the bot to read its answers out as they land, or press the speaker on a single reply.
5. Hit call to talk to the bot, which tells you what it is doing and asks for approvals out loud.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the OpenMausBot repo at github.com/milind-soni/OpenMausBot, set the voice for the bot <bot-name> to <voice-provider> and read one reply aloud. Expected output: confirmation that the reply was spoken and which voice was used. Verify that the provider key is shown only as a configured flag.
```

### Caveat

For Grok voices the README says quality varies outside xAI's officially supported languages, and microphone transcription is unchanged.

Risk, credentials: Cloud voice providers need your own API key, which the app stores locally and shows only as a configured flag.
