# AI use cases for Openfilm (openfilm/openfilm)

Repo: [openfilm/openfilm](https://github.com/openfilm/openfilm) | Use cases: 4 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/openfilm-openfilm/

OpenFilm is an open source tool that lets a coding agent write films as web pages, and lets a person edit the result in a local browser editor called Studio.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to make a short launch video with a coding agent with Openfilm

Repo: [openfilm/openfilm](https://github.com/openfilm/openfilm) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Ask Codex or Claude Code for a short film, then watch it take shape in Studio.

**Who it is for:** A developer or founder who needs a short product or CLI launch video and already works in a coding agent.

**The problem:** Making a video usually means learning a timeline editor or hiring someone, which slows down a simple launch.

**The outcome:** A rendered MP4 of a short film written by the agent as web pages, with music if requested.

### Steps

1. Install the skill with `npx skills add openfilm/openfilm`.
2. Ask your agent for a film, for example: Make a 20-second launch video for my CLI, with music.
3. Watch the film take shape in Studio, which opens in your browser.
4. Make changes by hand in Studio or by asking the agent again.
5. Render the final file with `openfilm render`.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the openfilm/openfilm repo, run the skill install, then ask the agent to make a 20-second launch video for <product>. Expect a film folder with a film.html that opens in Studio and renders to an MP4. Verify by running `openfilm look` on the film and confirming it reports no page errors, missing fonts or missing sound files.
```

### Caveat

Generated voice, music, images and video need your own keys for services such as ElevenLabs, OpenAI, Google or fal, and the README does not say which of these your agent will pick.

Risk, remote script: The install step runs packages fetched from npm and GitHub, so review what the agent runs before you approve it.

## How to edit an agent-made film by hand in Studio with Openfilm

Repo: [openfilm/openfilm](https://github.com/openfilm/openfilm) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Move, restyle, retime and retext any element of a film, then save named versions.

**Who it is for:** A video maker who got a first cut from an agent and wants precise manual control over layout, text and timing.

**The problem:** Asking an agent for every small change is slow, and the agent's first draft often needs fixes in exact positions and timing.

**The outcome:** A revised film with your manual edits saved to the film's files, with named versions you can return to.

### Steps

1. Open the film with `openfilm open <folder>`. (inferred, check the README)
2. Select a page element in Studio and move, scale or rotate it, or change its text, color or style.
3. Trim, cut or restyle clips on the timeline, and adjust their volume and speed.
4. Save a named version from Studio so you can go back to it.
5. Render the result with `openfilm render`.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the openfilm/openfilm repo, run `openfilm open <folder>` to show an existing film in Studio. Make the edits listed in <edit list> by hand in Studio, then save a named version. Expect the film's files to reflect your edits, so the agent can keep them. Verify by reopening the film and confirming the changes are still present.
```

### Caveat

The README says Studio works best on a Chromium-based browser such as Chrome or Edge, so the preview you see there is the one that gets exported.

## How to hand a film to Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve with Openfilm

Repo: [openfilm/openfilm](https://github.com/openfilm/openfilm) | Difficulty: Advanced | Time: 45 minutes | Basis: From the README

Export the timeline so an editor can finish the film in a professional video editor.

**Who it is for:** A video producer or editor who needs to finish an agent-made cut in a professional editing app.

**The problem:** A finished-looking film still often needs fine cuts, color or sound work that is easier in a dedicated editing app.

**The outcome:** A timeline file that opens in Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve for further editing.

### Steps

1. Open the film in Studio with `openfilm open <folder>`. (inferred, check the README)
2. Check the timeline and clips in Studio, and make any final edits.
3. Export the timeline from Studio for Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.
4. Open the exported timeline in your editing app and confirm the clips and tracks match Studio.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the openfilm/openfilm repo, open the film at <folder> in Studio and export its timeline for <Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve>. Expect an exported timeline file that the target app can open. Verify by opening it in that app and checking that track order and clip timing match the film.
```

### Caveat

The README names the timeline export but does not say how fully pages, effects or text layers carry over into each editing app, so check the result before relying on it.

## How to check a film for errors before publishing it with Openfilm

Repo: [openfilm/openfilm](https://github.com/openfilm/openfilm) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use the look command to find changed frames, page errors and cut-off text.

**Who it is for:** A creator or developer about to publish a film who wants a quick quality check before rendering or sharing.

**The problem:** Errors such as missing fonts, missing sound files, text cut off by the frame or frames that change between renders are easy to miss by eye.

**The outcome:** A list of problems the check found, so you can fix them before rendering the final MP4.

### Steps

1. Run `openfilm look` on the film folder to get a contact sheet of its frames.
2. Look at a single frame with a time value, or a range, using the same command with `openfilm look`.
3. Read the report for changed frames, page errors, fonts that failed to load, missing sound files and cut-off text.
4. Fix each reported problem in the film files or in Studio.
5. Render the final file with `openfilm render`.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the openfilm/openfilm repo, run `openfilm look` on the film at <folder> and list every reported problem. Expect a contact sheet and a report that names any changed frames, page errors, fonts that failed to load, missing sound files and cut-off text. Verify by fixing one reported problem and running `openfilm look` again to confirm it is gone.
```

### Caveat

The README says the check finds changed frames and certain errors, but it does not say it will catch every visual defect, so a manual review is still needed.
