Repo: [ph1lb4/imagegen-mac](https://github.com/ph1lb4/imagegen-mac) | Use cases: 3 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/ph1lb4-imagegen-mac/

ImageGen is a native macOS app that runs the Qwen-Image 2.1 model locally on Apple silicon for text to image and image editing, with a built-in MCP server so coding agents can generate images.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to generate images offline on your Mac with Imagegen Mac

Repo: [ph1lb4/imagegen-mac](https://github.com/ph1lb4/imagegen-mac) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 1 hour | Basis: From the README

Build the app, download the model, and generate images with readable text on your GPU.

**Who it is for:** A designer who cannot send client prompts to cloud services.

**The problem:** Cloud image tools cost per image and see your prompts.

**The outcome:** Images generated on-device with no API keys.

### Steps

1. Run `git clone https://github.com/ph1lb4/imagegen-mac.git` and `cd imagegen-mac`
2. Build with `./scripts/build-app.sh`
3. Open with `open build/ImageGen.app` and let it download the model
4. Generate from a text prompt

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Build ph1lb4/imagegen-mac, generate <prompt> with text in the image, and confirm the text is readable and no network calls were made after the model download.
```

### Caveat

The model needs about 33 GB of memory, so a 64 GB Mac is the practical minimum.

## How to let Claude Code generate images while it builds with Imagegen Mac

Repo: [ph1lb4/imagegen-mac](https://github.com/ph1lb4/imagegen-mac) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Connect the app's MCP server so your coding agent creates images for your project.

**Who it is for:** A web developer who needs placeholder art and icons during a build.

**The problem:** Switching to an image tool breaks flow.

**The outcome:** Images generated by the agent through local MCP.

### Steps

1. Run ImageGen so its engine listens on port 7860
2. Run `claude mcp add --transport http imagegen http://127.0.0.1:7860/mcp --scope user`
3. Ask Claude Code for an image
4. Check it in the app's gallery

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
With the imagegen MCP server connected, generate a hero image for <project> and save it to <path>. Confirm the file exists and was made locally.
```

### Caveat

The MCP server is only available while the app's engine is running.

## How to edit an existing image with an instruction with Imagegen Mac

Repo: [ph1lb4/imagegen-mac](https://github.com/ph1lb4/imagegen-mac) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 1 hour | Basis: From the README

Change an existing image with a plain instruction, or combine up to 10 references, fully offline on an Apple silicon Mac.

**Who it is for:** A marketer or shop owner who needs quick product photo edits but cannot upload client images to cloud tools.

**The problem:** Small edits need Photoshop skills or a cloud service that sees your images.

**The outcome:** An edited image generated locally by Qwen-Image, saved in the app's gallery.

### Steps

1. Run `git clone https://github.com/ph1lb4/imagegen-mac.git`, `cd imagegen-mac` and `./scripts/build-app.sh`
2. Open with `open build/ImageGen.app` and let it download the model
3. Switch to image editing, load your image (or up to 10 references) and type the change
4. Generate and compare before and after in the gallery
5. Agents can do the same through the MCP edit_image tool after `claude mcp add --transport http imagegen http://127.0.0.1:7860/mcp --scope user`

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
With the imagegen MCP server connected, use edit_image on <image> with the instruction <change> and save to <path>. Describe what changed and confirm the file was made locally.
```

### Caveat

The model needs about 33 GB of memory, so a 64 GB Apple silicon Mac is the practical minimum.
