Janus is a small macOS menu bar app that switches between saved Claude Code and Codex accounts and clears developer caches by moving them to the Trash.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to switch between Claude Code accounts in one click with Janus

Repo: [RamitVishwakarma/Janus](https://github.com/RamitVishwakarma/Janus) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Save each Claude Code login once, then swap the live session from the macOS menu bar.

**Who it is for:** A developer with a personal and a work Claude Code account who is tired of signing out and typing logins again.

**The problem:** Signing in as another Claude Code account normally means signing out first and entering the whole login again.

**The outcome:** Each account is saved in Janus, and the live session can be switched with one click or the ⌘S shortcut from the menu bar.

### Steps

1. Install Janus with `brew install --cask --no-quarantine ramitvishwakarma/tap/janus`, or download the latest .dmg from Releases and drag Janus to Applications.
2. If you downloaded the .dmg by hand, run `xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Janus.app` once, then run `open /Applications/Janus.app`.
3. With the first account signed in to Claude Code, open Janus and press Save current account.
4. Sign out of Claude Code, sign in as the second account, return to Janus, and press Save current account again.
5. Switch between the two accounts with one click or ⌘S from the menu bar, then restart Claude Code to pick up the new account.

```text
Using the Janus repo at RamitVishwakarma/Janus, explain how to save the Claude Code account currently signed in on this Mac and switch to <target account name>. Report the list of saved accounts and which one is live. Verify that the live account in the menu bar matches the account you switched to.
```

### Caveat

Switching does not affect a Claude Code session that is already running, so you must restart Claude Code to use the new account.

Risk, credentials: Janus stores saved OAuth tokens in the login keychain and moves the live session between accounts, so only use it on a Mac you control.

## How to check which Claude account has room left before work with Janus

Repo: [RamitVishwakarma/Janus](https://github.com/RamitVishwakarma/Janus) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Refresh per-account five-hour and weekly usage so you can choose the account with the most room.

**Who it is for:** A developer with several Claude Code accounts who needs to decide which one to use for a big task today.

**The problem:** Usage limits are shown only as of the last session, so an account that is not signed in can show figures that are stale.

**The outcome:** Each saved account shows its current five-hour and weekly usage after Refresh, so you can pick the one with the most headroom.

### Steps

1. Install Janus with `brew install --cask --no-quarantine ramitvishwakarma/tap/janus`, or download the .dmg from Releases and open it.
2. Save each Claude Code account using Save current account, switching accounts as described in the Janus README.
3. Open the Janus window and press Refresh to fetch current usage for each saved account.
4. Read the line under each pair of bars to confirm whether a figure was fetched or came from the last session.
5. Switch to the account with the most limit left, then restart Claude Code.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the Janus repo at RamitVishwakarma/Janus, describe how to refresh usage figures for all saved Claude Code accounts in Janus. Output a table of each account with its five-hour and weekly usage and whether each figure was fetched or cached. Verify that the figures for the signed-in account match Claude Code's own limits display.
```

### Caveat

The signed-in account's token is never renewed by Janus, so its figures depend on Claude Code keeping the session current.

Risk, credentials: Refresh sends each saved account's own tokens to Anthropic's usage endpoint, so make sure those accounts are yours to query.

## How to switch between Codex accounts and API-key sign-ins with Janus

Repo: [RamitVishwakarma/Janus](https://github.com/RamitVishwakarma/Janus) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Save each Codex sign-in, including separate ChatGPT plans and API keys, and swap them from the menu bar.

**Who it is for:** A developer who uses Codex with a personal ChatGPT plan, a team workspace, and an API key.

**The problem:** Codex keeps one sign-in in a single file, so moving between accounts means logging out and logging in again.

**The outcome:** Each Codex sign-in is saved and listed separately, and switching is one click after you quit Codex.

### Steps

1. Install Janus with `brew install --cask --no-quarantine ramitvishwakarma/tap/janus`, then open it and go to the Codex tab.
2. Save the account Codex is currently signed into, then delete `~/.codex/auth.json` without running any logout command.
3. Run `codex login` as the next account, then save that account in Janus.
4. Quit Codex before switching, since a running Codex can write the old sign-in back over the new one.
5. Switch to the account you need from the Codex tab and reopen Codex.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the Janus repo at RamitVishwakarma/Janus, explain how to save each Codex sign-in on this Mac, including ChatGPT and API-key accounts, and switch to <target account email or key suffix>. Report the saved Codex accounts with their plan or key suffix. Verify that the live file at ~/.codex/auth.json now belongs to the target account.
```

### Caveat

The README says not to use codex logout for this, because it revokes the sign-in at OpenAI and the saved copy stops working.

Risk, credentials: Janus saves entire Codex auth.json files, including tokens, to the login keychain, so treat the Mac as holding live OpenAI sign-ins.

## How to clear developer caches without permanent deletion with Janus

Repo: [RamitVishwakarma/Janus](https://github.com/RamitVishwakarma/Janus) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Measure build and package caches, see what each costs to lose, and move the ones you pick to the Trash.

**Who it is for:** A developer whose disk is filling up with package manager, build, browser, and editor caches.

**The problem:** Developer caches grow silently, and deleting them by hand risks removing things that are expensive to rebuild or still in use.

**The outcome:** You see the size and cost of losing each cache, and the ones you clear go to the Trash so the choice can be reversed.

### Steps

1. Install Janus with `brew install --cask --no-quarantine ramitvishwakarma/tap/janus`, or download the .dmg from Releases and open it.
2. Open the Storage tab and wait for the fixed list of cache directories to be measured.
3. Quit any app whose cache is greyed out and shows a Quit it link before clearing it.
4. Select the caches you want to remove and clear them, which moves them to the Trash.
5. If you want Downloads or Trash covered, grant Full Disk Access in System Settings, then Privacy & Security.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the Janus repo at RamitVishwakarma/Janus, list the developer cache directories Janus measures on this Mac and their sizes. Report which ones are greyed out because their app is running. Verify that nothing was deleted permanently by checking that cleared items appear in the Trash.
```

### Caveat

Downloads and Trash are behind macOS privacy controls, so they are only covered after you grant Full Disk Access.
