# AI use cases for Envlatch (Raylinkh/envlatch)

Repo: [Raylinkh/envlatch](https://github.com/Raylinkh/envlatch) | Use cases: 3 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/raylinkh-envlatch/

EnvLatch is a native macOS Keychain launcher that stores API keys once and starts any agent, SDK, script or backend with exactly the keys it needs as ordinary environment variables.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to launch a coding agent with only the key it needs with Envlatch

Repo: [Raylinkh/envlatch](https://github.com/Raylinkh/envlatch) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Run any command with selected Keychain keys injected as environment variables, nothing else exposed.

**Who it is for:** A developer who keeps API keys in plain .env files across many projects.

**The problem:** Plain-text key files leak easily and give every process every key.

**The outcome:** Processes that receive exactly the named keys from the Keychain.

### Steps

1. Install with `git clone https://github.com/Raylinkh/envlatch.git`, `cd envlatch` and `./scripts/install.sh`
2. Open the app and save your keys
3. Run `envlatch run --using ANTHROPIC_API_KEY -- claude`
4. Check setup with `envlatch doctor`

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
With Raylinkh/envlatch, launch <command> using `envlatch run --using <KEY_NAME> -- <command>` and confirm inside the process that only that key is set in the environment.
```

### Caveat

No code change is needed because the launched process sees normal environment variables.

Risk, credentials: Anyone who can run Envlatch as your user can request saved keys, so lock your Mac and review paired agents.

## How to run tests and servers with a saved key group with Envlatch

Repo: [Raylinkh/envlatch](https://github.com/Raylinkh/envlatch) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Save several keys as a named group and launch tests or a backend with one flag.

**Who it is for:** A backend developer whose test suite needs both an OpenAI key and a GitHub token.

**The problem:** Repeating several key flags on every command is error-prone.

**The outcome:** A reusable group that injects the same set of keys every time.

### Steps

1. Create a group with `envlatch groups create "Backend" --using OPENAI_API_KEY --using GITHUB_TOKEN`
2. Run `envlatch run --using "Backend" -- npm test`
3. Start the server with `envlatch run --using "Backend" -- python3 server.py`
4. List groups with `envlatch groups`

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Create an EnvLatch group named <name> with <keys>, run `envlatch run --using "<name>" -- npm test`, and report whether tests pass. Confirm no .env file was used.
```

### Caveat

Group membership is by exact key names, so renaming a key breaks the group.

## How to pair a build agent to use Keychain keys with Envlatch

Repo: [Raylinkh/envlatch](https://github.com/Raylinkh/envlatch) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Pair a named agent so it can launch with saved keys, then verify setup with doctor.

**Who it is for:** A developer running a local build agent that needs provider keys on a schedule.

**The problem:** Agents often get broad, permanent copies of secrets.

**The outcome:** A named, paired agent that requests keys through EnvLatch.

### Steps

1. Install EnvLatch and save keys
2. Run `envlatch pair "My build agent"`
3. Run `envlatch doctor`
4. Use `envlatch list` to confirm available keys

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Pair <agent name> with `envlatch pair`, run `envlatch doctor`, and report any warnings. Confirm the agent can run a command with one saved key.
```

### Caveat

It is macOS only because it relies on the system Keychain.
