# AI use cases for ML View (realmyang/MLView)

Repo: [realmyang/MLView](https://github.com/realmyang/MLView) | Use cases: 3 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/realmyang-mlview/

MLView is an experimental VS Code viewer and skill that lets a coding assistant turn an ML workflow into an interactive, source-linked diagram.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to turn a training config into a source-linked diagram with ML View

Repo: [realmyang/MLView](https://github.com/realmyang/MLView) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 1 hour | Basis: From the README

Ask your assistant to map data, model, losses and validation as a clickable diagram.

**Who it is for:** An ML engineer who inherits a training repo and needs to see how the config, data and loss fit together before changing anything.

**The problem:** Reading training code and YAML configs across many files makes the flow of data, parameters and losses hard to hold in your head.

**The outcome:** A *.mlview.json diagram opens in VS Code, and each step links to the cited source lines.

### Steps

1. Run `cd webview && npm ci && npm run build && cd ..` from the ML View checkout.
2. Run `python3 tools/sync-assets.py`.
3. Run `cd vscode-extension && npm ci && npm run package && cd ..`, then install the generated VSIX with VS Code's Extensions: Install from VSIX.
4. Run `python3 tools/install_skill.py /path/to/your/project`.
5. In the target project, invoke `mlview` in your assistant's skill picker and ask it to explain training with the config, showing data, model, losses, parameter updates, validation and anything unresolved.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the MLView repo at <mlview-checkout>, install the mlview skill into <target-project> and ask the assistant to explain the training config in <target-project>. Expect a *.mlview.json file that opens as a diagram. Verify that the diagram lists unresolved items and that its cited files are reported as unchanged.
```

### Caveat

ML View is experimental, and the workflow interpretation comes from the active assistant model; citation checks do not prove the interpretation correct.

## How to check each diagram claim against its cited lines with ML View

Repo: [realmyang/MLView](https://github.com/realmyang/MLView) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Walk inferred and unresolved claims in the diagram and open their cited source beside it.

**Who it is for:** A reviewer who must confirm an AI-drawn workflow before trusting it in a design review or code change.

**The problem:** An assistant-written diagram can contain inferred or unresolved claims that look as solid as observed ones.

**The outcome:** You have stepped through the flagged claims, seen their quotes and decided which ones the source supports.

### Steps

1. Open the published `*.mlview.json` diagram in VS Code.
2. Press `r` (or choose Review) to start the review walk, which begins on inferred and unresolved claims.
3. Use `j` and `k` (or the arrow keys) to move between claims, and `[` and `]` to change quote.
4. Press Enter to open the cited lines beside the diagram, and Escape to end the walk.
5. Use Challenge this claim in the Selection tab for any claim you doubt, then paste the prompt into the same assistant.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the repo <target-project>, open the MLView diagram <diagram-file>.mlview.json and list each inferred or unresolved claim with its cited file and line range. Expect a short review list. Verify that every listed quote points to a file that is marked unchanged.
```

### Caveat

A matching quote only shows that the cited lines are unchanged since publishing; whether they support the claim is for the reviewer to judge.

## How to update a workflow diagram after the code changes with ML View

Repo: [realmyang/MLView](https://github.com/realmyang/MLView) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 45 minutes | Basis: From the README

Ask the assistant for a refined revision and see what was added, removed or changed.

**Who it is for:** A developer who edited a training pipeline and needs the workflow diagram to match the new code.

**The problem:** A diagram drawn before a code change goes stale, and rebuilding it by hand takes time.

**The outcome:** A new revision opens on the Changes since view, listing added, removed and changed steps, connections and findings.

### Steps

1. Select the node, edge or finding to change and choose Refine, then Copy prompt.
2. Pick an intent or type a specific question, and paste the prompt into the same assistant.
3. Wait for the assistant to publish a new *.mlview.json revision.
4. Read About, which opens on Changes since, and check the steps tagged new or changed.
5. Use Reveal in Diagram from the editor on any cited line you want to check.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the repo <target-project>, refine the MLView diagram <diagram-file>.mlview.json to reflect my recent edits to <changed-file>. Expect a new revision whose Changes since summary lists the affected steps. Verify that the new revision's changed items all cite lines that exist in the current files.
```

### Caveat

Only revisions the panel has already shown are compared, so closing the panel or reloading the window forgets the comparison.
