# AI use cases for Agenttrail (sodiumsun/agenttrail)

Repo: [sodiumsun/agenttrail](https://github.com/sodiumsun/agenttrail) | Use cases: 4 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/sodiumsun-agenttrail/

Agenttrail is a local observability tool that shows the project structure, file activity, tasks and role contributions of AI coding agents such as Codex and Claude Code.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to watch coding agents work live in a 3D kitchen with Agenttrail

Repo: [sodiumsun/agenttrail](https://github.com/sodiumsun/agenttrail) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Run Agenttrail Kitchen in your repo to see agent tasks, roles and completed work update as you code.

**Who it is for:** A developer running Codex or Claude Code on a local project who wants to see which tasks the agent has reported and what is still in progress.

**The problem:** Agent activity is spread across terminal windows and logs, so it is hard to tell what is being worked on and what is finished.

**The outcome:** A browser view at localhost:4780 that shows chefs, order tickets and completed deliveries based on local agent activity and native todos.

### Steps

1. Open a terminal in the repo you want to watch.
2. Run `npx agenttrail-kitchen .`
3. Wait for the browser to open at localhost:4780 (or the next free port) and keep this terminal open.
4. Keep working in Codex or Claude Code and watch tickets and chefs update in Live mode.
5. Click a chef or ticket to inspect its evidence.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the repo <repo-path>, run `npx agenttrail-kitchen .` and confirm the browser opens at localhost:4780 or the next free port. Report the URL that is shown. Verify that the terminal stays running and that the view is in Live mode, not Example mode.
```

### Caveat

Kitchen is an experimental public preview, and if no activity is available the chefs simply wait, so a quiet view does not always mean an error.

## How to preview the kitchen interface with scripted example steps with Agenttrail

Repo: [sodiumsun/agenttrail](https://github.com/sodiumsun/agenttrail) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Explore Agenttrail Kitchen with a labeled scripted example before connecting any real agent.

**Who it is for:** A developer or team lead evaluating Agenttrail who wants to see the interface before installing hooks or running an agent session.

**The problem:** It is unclear what the 3D view shows and how it maps to real work, and there is no live agent session to test with yet.

**The outcome:** A walkthrough of chefs, tickets and delivery steps using labeled example activity, followed by a switch back to Live mode.

### Steps

1. Open a terminal in any project folder.
2. Run `npx agenttrail-kitchen . --example` to start Kitchen with the scripted example. (inferred, check the README)
3. Click **Next example step** to advance through the scripted activity.
4. Click **Live** to return to your real repo once you have seen enough.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the repo <repo-path>, start Agenttrail Kitchen in example mode and advance through at least three example steps. Report which chef and ticket changed at each step. Verify that the view is labeled as scripted example activity and not as live observation.
```

### Caveat

Example mode is scripted and labeled, so it shows the interface only and does not reflect the activity of any real agent.

## How to map project structure and component progress from PLAN.md with Agenttrail

Repo: [sodiumsun/agenttrail](https://github.com/sodiumsun/agenttrail) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use Agenttrail Map to see which components are changing, with progress from a PLAN.md file.

**Who it is for:** A developer or tech lead who wants a project overview showing which parts of the codebase are being touched and how far each component has progressed.

**The problem:** It is hard to see how planned components relate to the files an agent is actually changing across a project.

**The outcome:** A local map with a live file tree, dependency links and component status drawn from PLAN.md and observed file changes.

### Steps

1. Change into your repo folder with `cd your-repo`.
2. Run `npx agenttrail init` and review the setup it proposes before accepting it.
3. Give your agent the backfill prompt from the board so it adds the convention to CLAUDE.md and AGENTS.md and creates a starter plan.
4. Run `npx agenttrail` to open the Map.
5. Check that completed components light up when their files change again.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the repo <repo-path>, run `npx agenttrail init`, review the setup, and create a starter PLAN.md that uses stable {#id} component values. Report the list of files the setup wrote. Verify that the Map shows each component with its status marker ([~], [x] or [!]) after running `npx agenttrail`.
```

### Caveat

Setup writes CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md, a starter plan and a .gitignore entry, so review the proposed changes before running init in a repo you care about.

## How to add Claude Code hooks for session and tool activity with Agenttrail

Repo: [sodiumsun/agenttrail](https://github.com/sodiumsun/agenttrail) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Connect Claude Code through reviewed hooks so Agenttrail shows session trails and tool activity.

**Who it is for:** A developer who runs Claude Code in a repo and wants session and tool activity visible in Agenttrail beyond plain file changes.

**The problem:** Plain file observation does not show which Claude Code session did what or which tools it used.

**The outcome:** Session and tool activity from Claude Code appears in the Map and Kitchen views, and the hook setup can be reversed.

### Steps

1. Run `npx agenttrail init` in the repo and accept the local Claude Code hooks offer after reviewing it.
2. Or, for Kitchen, run `npx agenttrail-kitchen .` and choose **Connect agents**, then pick the provider you use.
3. Review the hook changes listed in the setup before confirming.
4. Restart the agent conversation if it does not load newly installed hooks.
5. Run a short task in Claude Code and confirm session activity appears in the view.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the repo <repo-path>, set up Agenttrail Claude Code hooks using the reviewed setup flow, then restart the Claude Code conversation. Report which provider settings files were changed. Verify that a short test task in Claude Code produces visible session activity in the Map or Kitchen view.
```

### Caveat

Map's Claude hook view can show shortened command text and tool details, so review what is visible before sharing any recording.
