## How to build and install an Android app entirely on your phone with Mobile Harness

Repo: [techjarves/Mobile-Harness](https://github.com/techjarves/Mobile-Harness) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 45 minutes | Basis: From the README

Write, build, and install a debug APK on Android with no PC and no USB debugging.

**Who it is for:** An Android hobbyist or student with only a phone who wants to make and test a small app without a laptop.

**The problem:** Normally building an Android app needs a computer with Android Studio and USB or wireless debugging to install the result.

**The outcome:** A debug APK built on the phone is handed to Android's package installer and launches after you confirm the install.

### Steps

1. Download the Online APK from the Mobile Harness GitHub releases page and install it on your phone.
2. Open the app and run the guided bootstrap, then select the Android toolchain in the Toolchains step.
3. Tap New Project, open the AI Workspace, and describe the Android app you want.
4. Let the agent draft the code, then tap the workspace play button to build the debug APK.
5. Confirm the Android install prompt so the app installs and launches.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the Mobile Harness app on an ARM64 Android phone, create a new project, ask the AI Workspace to build a simple Android app, and tap the play button. Expected output: a debug APK installed and launched on the phone. Verify that the install prompt appeared and the app opens.
```

### Caveat

Android still requires you to allow installs from Mobile Harness and confirm each installation, and PRoot is not a hardened security jail, so only build projects you trust.

Risk, credentials: Your Claude or provider API key is stored in Android Keystore, and the agent sends prompts and project context to the model provider.

## How to have Claude Code build a web app from your phone with Mobile Harness

Repo: [techjarves/Mobile-Harness](https://github.com/techjarves/Mobile-Harness) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Describe a web app in chat and let Claude Code write it inside the Linux subsystem.

**Who it is for:** A developer away from their desk who wants to start or change a web project using only a phone.

**The problem:** Starting a web project usually means a laptop with a terminal, Node.js, and an editor set up.

**The outcome:** A project in the phone's Ubuntu workspace with code written by Claude Code, ready to preview.

### Steps

1. Install Mobile Harness and complete the guided bootstrap, including the Node.js toolchain included in Core.
2. In the AI Provider step, add your Claude account or API key so it is stored in Android Keystore.
3. Tap New Project or Quick Project, then open the AI Workspace and select Claude Code.
4. Describe the web app you want, such as a small Vite or Express site, and let the agent inspect files and draft code.
5. Ask the agent to start the dev server, then open the web preview to check the result.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In Mobile Harness on an ARM64 Android phone, open a new project in the AI Workspace with Claude Code and ask it to create a small Vite web page. Expected output: project files in the workspace and a running local preview. Verify that the preview loads and the files appear in the project.
```

### Caveat

Mobile Harness uses Claude Code's Anthropic-compatible API protocol, and usage is subject to your account or provider limits.

Risk, credentials: The API key you add is used by the agent to call the model provider, so only use keys you are comfortable exposing to that provider's service.

## How to preview a local Vite or Express server on your phone with Mobile Harness

Repo: [techjarves/Mobile-Harness](https://github.com/techjarves/Mobile-Harness) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Run a Vite, Next.js, or Express server on the phone and test it in a sandboxed WebView.

**Who it is for:** A web developer who wants to check a running server's interface on mobile without deploying it.

**The problem:** Testing how a web interface behaves on a phone usually requires deploying it or using a separate device.

**The outcome:** A live local web server shown in an in-app preview with console output for debugging.

### Steps

1. Open an existing project or tap Quick Project in Mobile Harness.
2. Open the Terminal and run your project's dev server command, such as the one for Vite, Next.js, or Express.
3. Open the web preview from the workspace to load the running server.
4. Check the console telemetry in the preview for errors, then fix the code and reload.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In Mobile Harness on an ARM64 Android phone, start a Vite dev server for the project at <project-name> from the Terminal and open the Instant Web Preview. Expected output: the app renders in the WebView with console messages visible. Verify that the page loads without errors in the console.
```

### Caveat

The preview runs in a restricted, sandboxed mobile WebView, so it may not match how the app behaves in a full desktop browser.

## How to point Claude Code at DeepSeek or OpenRouter models with Mobile Harness

Repo: [techjarves/Mobile-Harness](https://github.com/techjarves/Mobile-Harness) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use an Anthropic-compatible provider such as DeepSeek or OpenRouter with the Claude Code agent.

**Who it is for:** A developer who wants a different model behind Claude Code, or a gateway that serves several models with one key.

**The problem:** You may want to try other models or manage costs without changing your coding workflow.

**The outcome:** Claude Code in Mobile Harness sends its requests to the provider you chose, with the key kept in Android Keystore.

### Steps

1. Open Settings in Mobile Harness and go to the AI providers section.
2. Select DeepSeek, OpenRouter, or Kimi, then enter the API key for that provider.
3. Open the AI Workspace, select Claude Code, and start a new conversation in a project.
4. Send a small coding request and confirm the reply comes back from the chosen provider.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In Mobile Harness on an ARM64 Android phone, configure the OpenRouter provider with my API key and ask Claude Code in the AI Workspace to explain the files in <project-name>. Expected output: a reply from the chosen model in the chat. Verify that the provider shown in settings matches the one used for the reply.
```

### Caveat

Custom API endpoints are listed as Experimental in the README, so only the Anthropic API is marked Recommended.

Risk, credentials: Provider API keys are stored on the phone and used to send your prompts and project content to a third-party gateway.

## How to run Linux commands and scripts on your phone with Mobile Harness

Repo: [techjarves/Mobile-Harness](https://github.com/techjarves/Mobile-Harness) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use the in-app terminal to run shell commands in a private Ubuntu 20.04 environment.

**Who it is for:** A developer or sysadmin who needs a Linux shell with Git and Node.js while away from a computer.

**The problem:** Quick Linux tasks like checking a repo or running a script need a full machine, which is not always available.

**The outcome:** Command output from a real Ubuntu 20.04 ARM64 userspace running on the phone.

### Steps

1. Open Mobile Harness and go to the Terminal tab.
2. Run a basic check such as `git --version` to confirm Git is available. (inferred, check the README)
3. Run `node --version` to confirm the Node.js runtime is installed. (inferred, check the README)
4. Run your script or command and review the output in the terminal.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the Mobile Harness Terminal on an ARM64 Android phone, run `git --version` and `node --version`. Expected output: version strings for Git and Node.js from the Ubuntu subsystem. Verify that both commands return a version without errors.
```

### Caveat

The Linux environment runs through PRoot, which is not a virtualization boundary, so only run scripts and dependencies you own or trust.
