# AI use cases for Octop (TencentCloud/Octop)

Repo: [TencentCloud/Octop](https://github.com/TencentCloud/Octop) | Use cases: 3 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/tencentcloud-octop/

Octop is an open-source, self-hosted AI assistant for households and small teams. One process serves a web dashboard, a CLI, IM channels (Telegram, Discord, Feishu, DingTalk, WeChat and more) and natural-language cron jobs. Each user gets experts with their own workspace, providers and memory, plus a knowledge base, plugins, browser automation, remote desktop and ACP to delegate coding to Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to self-host one AI assistant for your whole household with Octop

Repo: [TencentCloud/Octop](https://github.com/TencentCloud/Octop) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 45 minutes | Basis: From the README

Install Octop, run the setup wizard and give each family member their own expert and workspace.

**Who it is for:** The tech person in a household who wants everyone to use AI without sharing one account or sending data to many apps.

**The problem:** Shared AI accounts mix everyone's chats and memories, and each new app holds a copy of your data.

**The outcome:** One Octop install with an admin account, separate experts per member, all data under ~/.octop/.

### Steps

1. On macOS or Linux run `curl -fsSL https://finnie-1258344699.cos.ap-guangzhou.myqcloud.com/octop/install.sh | bash`
2. Open a new terminal (or `source ~/.zshrc`) so `octop` is on your PATH
3. Run the first-run setup wizard with `octop init`
4. Start everything with `octop run` and open the web dashboard
5. Create a user per family member and assign each their own expert, providers and knowledge base

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Install TencentCloud/Octop on <machine>, run `octop init`, start it with `octop run`, and set up separate experts for <family members> with their own workspaces. Tell me where the data lives and which ports it opened.
```

### Caveat

Risk, remote script: The installer is piped from a Tencent Cloud object storage URL into bash; read install.sh first or install from source.

## How to reach your assistant from Telegram and schedule daily jobs in plain language with Octop

Repo: [TencentCloud/Octop](https://github.com/TencentCloud/Octop) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 20 minutes | Basis: From the README

Bridge Octop to an IM channel and set natural-language cron jobs that push results every day.

**Who it is for:** Someone who wants a morning summary or reminder delivered to the chat app they already check.

**The problem:** Scheduled AI tasks usually need code, and the results land in yet another app.

**The outcome:** An Octop expert that answers in Telegram or Discord and runs cron jobs you described in words.

### Steps

1. Install and start Octop with `octop run`
2. In the dashboard, open Channels and connect Telegram, Discord or another IM channel
3. Open Cron and describe the job in natural language, for example a weekly report every Friday
4. Check the job's first run in the channel and adjust the wording

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In my TencentCloud/Octop dashboard, connect <Telegram or Discord> and create a natural-language cron job that sends me <summary> every <time>. Confirm the first run arrives in the channel.
```

## How to delegate coding tasks from Octop chat to Claude Code or Codex over ACP with Octop

Repo: [TencentCloud/Octop](https://github.com/TencentCloud/Octop) | Difficulty: Advanced | Time: 45 minutes | Basis: From the README

Configure outbound ACP runners so an Octop expert hands coding work to Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode.

**Who it is for:** A developer who chats with Octop on the phone and wants code changes done by a real coding agent at home.

**The problem:** Chat assistants can talk about code but cannot run a coding agent in your repo.

**The outcome:** An Octop expert that delegates coding tasks to Claude Code or Codex and reports back in chat.

### Steps

1. In the dashboard open ACP (/acp) and configure a runner: OpenCode, CodeBuddy, Claude Code or Codex
2. Enable acp_runner on the agent you chat with
3. Ask it in chat to delegate a coding task in a named workspace
4. To use your Octop agent from an editor instead, run `octop acp --agent main` as a stdio ACP server for Zed or OpenCode
5. See docs/acp.md for full setup

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Set up TencentCloud/Octop ACP so my main expert can delegate coding tasks to <Claude Code or Codex>. Then delegate <task> in <repo> from chat and report what it changed.
```
