## How to catch repeated effects in a promo storyboard with Saas Motion Kit

Repo: [tugrawork-creator/saas-motion-kit](https://github.com/tugrawork-creator/saas-motion-kit) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Run the variety audit on a storyboard to flag repeated transitions, entrances and eases before you build.

**Who it is for:** A motion designer or marketer who has a draft storyboard for a software promo and wants to confirm it does not repeat effects.

**The problem:** Film drafts often reuse the same transition, entrance or ease across shots, which makes the result feel like a template rather than a new film.

**The outcome:** A list of repeated transitions, entrances, eases, directions and uniform shot lengths, plus any missing surprise, so you can fix or mark them as deliberate motifs before the build.

### Steps

1. Clone Saas Motion Kit, or click Use this template to start your own film repo.
2. Copy templates/STORYBOARD.md and fill in the Message & tone sentence and one ledger row per shot.
3. Run `python tools/variety_audit.py STORYBOARD.md`.
4. Fix each repeat, or mark it as a deliberate motif: in the storyboard.
5. Run the audit again until the storyboard passes, then move to the build stage.

```text
Use the saas-motion-kit repo. Fill templates/STORYBOARD.md for <product name> with a Message & tone sentence and one ledger row per shot, then run `python tools/variety_audit.py STORYBOARD.md`. Expected output: the audit report of repeats. Verify that the report is empty or that each repeat is marked as a motif before you hand the storyboard on.
```

### Caveat

The audit checks the storyboard file you give it, so it cannot judge the finished film, and it only works if the ledger is filled in.

## How to pick a visual theme for a tone and audience with Saas Motion Kit

Repo: [tugrawork-creator/saas-motion-kit](https://github.com/tugrawork-creator/saas-motion-kit) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Get a shortlist of gallery themes that fit a tone and audience, skipping recent ones.

**Who it is for:** A marketer or designer starting a new software promo who has a tone in mind and wants a distinct look.

**The problem:** Choosing one of 101 themes by browsing takes time, and it is easy to reuse a theme from your last few films.

**The outcome:** A shortlist of gallery themes that match your tone and audience, with themes from your last five films left out.

### Steps

1. Clone Saas Motion Kit and run `pip install` only if the repo asks for it (inferred). (inferred, check the README)
2. Decide the tone, for example playful, and the audience, for example developers.
3. Run `python tools/pick_themes.py --tone playful --audience "developers" --history ~/.motion-ledger.json`.
4. Open the theme gallery to view the shortlisted themes' key frames and motion notes.
5. Choose one theme and write its id into the storyboard.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Use the saas-motion-kit repo. Run `python tools/pick_themes.py --tone <tone> --audience "<audience>" --history ~/.motion-ledger.json` for the film about <product name>. Expected output: a shortlist of theme ids that skips your last five films. Verify that none of the shortlisted ids appear in the history file.
```

### Caveat

The picker relies on the history file you give it, so an empty or missing history file means no themes are skipped.

## How to break a reference film into shots and rhythm notes with Saas Motion Kit

Repo: [tugrawork-creator/saas-motion-kit](https://github.com/tugrawork-creator/saas-motion-kit) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Turn a video you admire into a shot list, rhythm stats and a contact sheet to learn its grammar.

**Who it is for:** A creative lead who wants to learn the pacing and cut structure of a launch film they admire before writing their own storyboard.

**The problem:** Watching a reference over and over does not show how many cuts it has, how long shots run, or how fast the opening moves.

**The outcome:** Shot breakdown, cuts per 10 seconds, shot lengths, a contact sheet and a draft ledger, filed under the git-ignored .references/ folder with a credit header.

### Steps

1. Save the reference video file locally, with the creator's permission or under the rules of your use.
2. Run `python tools/breakdown.py launch.mp4 --id 01 --creator "@handle" --title "v2 launch" --url https://x.com/handle/status/…`, replacing the file, handle, title and link with your own.
3. Open the contact sheet and the draft ledger in .references/.
4. Add the reference to REFERENCES.md and credit it in any shot notes that borrow from it with ref:01.
5. Borrow only grammar such as rhythm, structure, transition types and camera ideas, not assets.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Use the saas-motion-kit repo. Run `python tools/breakdown.py <video file> --id 01 --creator "<creator>" --title "<title>" --url <link>` on the reference video. Expected output: a shot breakdown, rhythm stats, a contact sheet and a draft ledger in .references/. Verify that the credit header names the creator and link before any output is reused.
```

### Caveat

The breakdown only detects hard cuts and grammar, so it does not capture the reference's sound, copy or assets, and those must not be reused.

## How to fail pull requests that repeat storyboard effects with Saas Motion Kit

Repo: [tugrawork-creator/saas-motion-kit](https://github.com/tugrawork-creator/saas-motion-kit) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Set up the variety audit GitHub Action so every storyboard is checked on push and pull request.

**Who it is for:** A team that keeps promo storyboards in a shared repo and wants repeats caught before review.

**The problem:** Reviewers often miss repeated transitions or uncredited references when a storyboard changes over several commits.

**The outcome:** A check that runs on each push and pull request and fails when a storyboard repeats itself or a ref: has no credited row.

### Steps

1. Create a repo from the template by clicking Use this template, or copy .github/workflows/variety-audit.yml into your repo.
2. Keep each storyboard as STORYBOARD.md in the repo, with REFERENCES.md next to it if you cite references.
3. Push a branch or open a pull request.
4. Open the Actions tab and read the variety audit result.
5. Fix each repeat or missing credit, then push again.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Use the saas-motion-kit repo's variety-audit.yml workflow in <team repo>. Push a storyboard change to a branch and open a pull request. Expected output: a passing or failing variety audit check. Verify that the check fails on a storyboard that repeats an effect, and passes once it is fixed.
```

### Caveat

The Action checks every STORYBOARD.md in the repo, so storyboards that are still drafts will fail until they are fixed or moved out of the checked path.
