Repo: [unslothai/unsloth](https://github.com/unslothai/unsloth) | Use cases: 3 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/unslothai-unsloth/

Unsloth is a desktop app and toolkit to run and train LLMs and diffusion models locally, supporting GGUF and MLX models, with installers for Windows, macOS, Linux and Docker.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## Unsloth desktop app: run and fine-tune LLMs locally

Repo: [unslothai/unsloth](https://github.com/unslothai/unsloth) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 45 minutes | Basis: From the README

Install the Unsloth desktop app and run or train models through a local UI.

**Who it is for:** A developer who wants to fine-tune a model without writing training scripts.

**The problem:** Fine-tuning usually needs custom notebooks and environment setup.

**The outcome:** A local app for running and training models.

### Steps

1. Install with `brew install --cask unsloth` or `winget install --id UnslothAI.Unsloth -e`
2. Open Unsloth Desktop
3. Pick a model to run
4. Start a training job from the UI

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Install unslothai/unsloth, run <model> in the desktop app, and start a short fine-tune on <dataset>. Report training progress and where outputs are saved.
```

### Caveat

Training speed and model size limits depend on your GPU.

## How to run Claude Code on a local quantized model with Unsloth

Repo: [unslothai/unsloth](https://github.com/unslothai/unsloth) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use Unsloth start to launch Claude Code against a local GGUF model.

**Who it is for:** A developer who wants a coding agent without cloud API usage.

**The problem:** Coding agents default to cloud models.

**The outcome:** Claude Code running against a local model served by Unsloth.

### Steps

1. Install Unsloth with `curl -fsSL https://unsloth.ai/install.sh | sh`
2. Run `unsloth start claude --model unsloth/Qwen3.8-27B-GGUF:UD-Q4_K_XL`
3. Work in your repo
4. Compare quality with your usual model

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Run `unsloth start claude --model unsloth/Qwen3.8-27B-GGUF:UD-Q4_K_XL` and complete <small task>. Report response speed and whether the task succeeded.
```

### Caveat

A 27B model at 4-bit needs substantial RAM or VRAM.

Risk, remote script: The quick install pipes a script into sh; package managers are an alternative.

## How to run Unsloth in Docker on a GPU server

Repo: [unslothai/unsloth](https://github.com/unslothai/unsloth) | Difficulty: Advanced | Time: 45 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use the official Docker image, or the ROCm image for AMD, on a shared server.

**Who it is for:** An ML engineer setting up a shared training box.

**The problem:** Matching CUDA and library versions by hand is fragile.

**The outcome:** A containerized Unsloth environment.

### Steps

1. Read the Unsloth Docker guide
2. Pull the unsloth/unsloth image (unsloth/unsloth-rocm for AMD)
3. Launch the container with GPU access
4. Open the UI or notebooks

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Start Unsloth from the unsloth/unsloth Docker image on <server> with GPU access and confirm the UI or notebook loads and sees the GPU.
```

### Caveat

Use the unsloth/unsloth:core tag for notebooks only.
