# AI use cases for Nopus (Vistyy/nopus)

Repo: [Vistyy/nopus](https://github.com/Vistyy/nopus) | Use cases: 4 | Page: https://dedupedai.com/use-cases/vistyy-nopus/

nopus is a set of deterministic prose checks that asks coding agents for one clearer rewrite when a completed answer becomes abstract or hard to read.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to get clearer Claude Code answers via the Stop hook with Nopus

Repo: [Vistyy/nopus](https://github.com/Vistyy/nopus) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Install the Nopus plugin so Claude Code requests one clearer rewrite when an answer turns abstract.

**Who it is for:** A developer using Claude Code who gets long answers full of abstract wording and needs them shorter to act on.

**The problem:** Coding-agent answers drift into abstract LLM babble that is hard to act on.

**The outcome:** Responses that cross the chosen sensitivity threshold receive one clearer rewrite request from the Stop hook.

### Steps

1. Make sure Node.js 22 or newer is installed and the `node` command is available.
2. Run `/plugin marketplace add Vistyy/nopus` in Claude Code.
3. Run `/plugin install nopus@nopus`.
4. Run `/nopus:nopus-configure medium` to set the default sensitivity.
5. Ask Claude Code a question that produces a long explanation and check whether the message "Nopus requested a clearer rewrite." appears when a rewrite is requested.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the nopus repo at Vistyy/nopus, add the marketplace with `/plugin marketplace add Vistyy/nopus`, install with `/plugin install nopus@nopus`, and set sensitivity with `/nopus:nopus-configure medium` in <project directory>. Expected output: a confirmed plugin install and a saved medium sensitivity setting. Verify that the message "nopus requested a clearer rewrite." appears after a long, abstract answer.
```

### Caveat

The published rewrite rates of 5.3% to 18.6% come from 5,337 Pi responses, so Claude Code results may differ.

## How to add clearer-response checks to Codex sessions with Nopus

Repo: [Vistyy/nopus](https://github.com/Vistyy/nopus) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Install the Nopus Codex plugin so each completed answer gets a bounded check for abstract prose.

**Who it is for:** A developer using Codex who wants shorter, more direct answers to coding tasks without checking each one by hand.

**The problem:** Codex answers sometimes bury the main point under abstract framing and filler.

**The outcome:** Codex requests at most one clearer rewrite when a completed response crosses the chosen threshold.

### Steps

1. Make sure Node.js 22 or newer is installed and the `node` command is available.
2. Run `codex plugin marketplace add Vistyy/nopus`.
3. Run `codex plugin add nopus@nopus`.
4. Start a new Codex session so the plugin and its skills load.
5. Run `$nopus-configure medium` to set the default sensitivity.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the nopus repo at Vistyy/nopus, run `codex plugin marketplace add Vistyy/nopus` and `codex plugin add nopus@nopus`, then start a new Codex session in <project directory> and run `$nopus-configure medium`. Expected output: the plugin installed and the sensitivity set to medium. Verify that a long, abstract Codex answer triggers the message "nopus requested a clearer rewrite."
```

### Caveat

The README gives observed rates from Pi responses only, so expect different intervention frequency in Codex.

## How to filter abstract Pi responses with a rewrite request with Nopus

Repo: [Vistyy/nopus](https://github.com/Vistyy/nopus) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Install the Nopus Pi extension to check completed responses and hide rejected ones from the transcript.

**Who it is for:** A developer using Pi who wants the terminal transcript to stay readable when an answer needs a clearer rewrite.

**The problem:** Pi answers can fill the transcript with abstract prose that needs a second pass.

**The outcome:** Pi checks each completed response and requests one clearer rewrite when needed, with rejected responses hidden from the terminal transcript by default.

### Steps

1. Make sure Node.js 22 or newer is installed and the `node` command is available.
2. Run `pi install npm:@syzom/nopus`.
3. Start Pi normally after installation.
4. Run `/nopus status` to confirm the extension is active.
5. Run `/nopus check` after a response to see how Nopus evaluates it.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the nopus repo at Vistyy/nopus, install the Pi extension with `pi install npm:@syzom/nopus`, start Pi in <project directory>, and run `/nopus status`. Expected output: a status report showing nopus is active. Verify that a rejected response stays in the Pi session history even though it is hidden from the terminal transcript.
```

### Caveat

The README says hidden responses remain in the Pi session and model history, so the transcript is cleaner but the content is not deleted.

## How to rewrite one agent response on demand with Nopus

Repo: [Vistyy/nopus](https://github.com/Vistyy/nopus) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Invoke the Nopus simplify skill to request a clearer rewrite when automatic checks did not trigger.

**Who it is for:** A developer who finds a specific agent answer too complex even though Nopus did not request a rewrite.

**The problem:** Some dense answers pass the automatic threshold but are still hard to follow.

**The outcome:** The agent returns a clearer version of the preceding response that keeps meaning, technical terms, commands, and qualifications.

### Steps

1. Make sure Node.js 22 or newer is installed and the `node` command is available, and that Nopus is installed for Claude Code or Codex.
2. In Claude Code, run `/nopus:nopus-simplify` after the response you want to simplify.
3. In Codex, run `$nopus-simplify` after the response you want to simplify.
4. Compare the revised response with the original and confirm that commands and identifiers are unchanged.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the nopus repo at Vistyy/nopus, run `/nopus:nopus-simplify` in Claude Code or `$nopus-simplify` in Codex in <project directory> right after the response you want rewritten. Expected output: a revised version of that response. Verify that technical terms, commands, identifiers, and conditions appear unchanged in the revision.
```

### Caveat

The manual skill does not change Nopus configuration, so it only affects the single response you invoke it on.
