VelaTerm is a native desktop app that combines a terminal, session tree, and agent workspace for managing coding agent sessions, reachable from a browser and phone.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to run several coding agents side by side in one app with Vela Term

Repo: [vlinx-io/VelaTerm](https://github.com/vlinx-io/VelaTerm) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Manage Claude Code, Codex and other agents as sessions in one tree, with live status.

**Who it is for:** A developer who uses more than one coding agent on the same codebase and loses track of which session is doing what.

**The problem:** Separate terminal windows for each agent make it hard to see which agent is busy, which one needs input, and how the work is organized.

**The outcome:** All agent sessions sit in one project tree with live status, and you can split them side by side.

### Steps

1. Download the installer for your platform from velaterm.com/download.
2. Open Vela Term and create a project in the session tree.
3. Start one session for each agent you use, such as Claude Code or Codex.
4. Split sessions side by side and watch their state in the session tree and status bar.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the VelaTerm project at https://github.com/vlinx-io/VelaTerm, install the desktop app from velaterm.com/download and start one Claude Code session and one Codex session in a project named <project-name>. Expected output: both sessions listed under that project in the session tree with a live status. Verify that both sessions keep running in the background after you switch views.
```

### Caveat

The README lists many agents, but the exact setup for each agent depends on that agent being installed and logged in on your machine.

Dual-use notice: only use this on software, sites and systems you own or are authorized to test.

## How to split a large coding task across a team of agents with Vela Term

Repo: [vlinx-io/VelaTerm](https://github.com/vlinx-io/VelaTerm) | Difficulty: Advanced | Time: 60 minutes | Basis: From the README

Let a planner session split work into parts that executor sessions build in parallel.

**Who it is for:** A developer facing a large refactor or feature that is too big for one agent session to handle cleanly.

**The problem:** One agent working through a large task in a single context is slow, and parallel work on the same files causes conflicts.

**The outcome:** A planner writes the plan, executors each build one part in their own worktree, and reports return to the planner for review.

### Steps

1. Open the project in the Vela Term desktop app.
2. Choose the planning mode and pick the agents, models and reasoning effort for planning and for execution separately.
3. Describe the large task to the planner and wait for its proposed split.
4. Edit the proposed tasks and models, then start execution.
5. Review the reports the planner sends back and check any results it sends to the same session for rework.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the VelaTerm desktop app, open the project at <project-path>, start Plan / Execute mode, and give the planner this task: <task-description>. Expected output: a planner session with child executor sessions, each working in its own worktree, and a list of reports for review. Verify that each executor has a separate worktree before any edits begin.
```

### Caveat

The README describes the planner and executor workflow but does not list the exact mode name in the menus, so confirm the steps in the user manual before relying on them.

## How to let agent sessions search and message each other with Vela Term

Repo: [vlinx-io/VelaTerm](https://github.com/vlinx-io/VelaTerm) | Difficulty: Advanced | Time: 45 minutes | Basis: From the README

Use vsearch, vrefer and vtell so one agent can pull in work from another session.

**Who it is for:** A developer whose agent needs context from earlier conversations in other sessions on the same project.

**The problem:** Relevant decisions and findings are scattered across several agent sessions, and copying them by hand is slow and error-prone.

**The outcome:** An agent can find earlier conversations, read or ask about them, and send a message to another running session.

### Steps

1. Start two sessions running Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode or Pi in the same project.
2. In one session, use the vsearch command to search every session for earlier work on the topic you need.
3. Use vrefer to read the matching conversation or ask a question about it.
4. Use vtell to message the other session, adding --steer if the message should join a turn that is already running.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the VelaTerm project at <project-path>, have one agent session use vsearch to find earlier work on <topic>, then vrefer to read the best match. Expected output: a short summary of the matched conversation with its session name. Verify that the summary cites a real session from the tree before you act on it.
```

### Caveat

The README names vsearch, vrefer and vtell but does not show their arguments, so check the user manual before scripting them.

Dual-use notice: only use this on software, sites and systems you own or are authorized to test.

## How to audit a codebase with bundled security workflows with Vela Term

Repo: [vlinx-io/VelaTerm](https://github.com/vlinx-io/VelaTerm) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Run Codex Security workflows on your own code and get evidence-backed reports.

**Who it is for:** A developer or security reviewer who wants a first pass over a project they own before a release.

**The problem:** Manual security review of a whole codebase takes a long time, and findings are hard to verify without source evidence.

**The outcome:** A Markdown or JSON report with source evidence and a clear list of coverage limits for the audited code.

### Steps

1. Confirm that your local Codex or Claude Code is logged in.
2. Read the code audit guide at docs/manuals/code-audits_20260908.md.
3. Open the project you own in Vela Term and start a code audit from the app.
4. Review each finding against its source evidence and the stated coverage limits.
5. Save the Markdown or JSON report with the project's records.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the VelaTerm repo at https://github.com/vlinx-io/VelaTerm, read docs/manuals/code-audits_20260908.md and run a code audit on the project at <project-path> that I own. Expected output: a Markdown or JSON report with source evidence and coverage limits. Verify that every finding links to a file and line in the source before you trust it.
```

### Caveat

Audit reports list their own coverage limits, so treat an audit as a first pass and not a full security review, and only audit code you own or are authorized to test.

Dual-use notice: only use this on software, sites and systems you own or are authorized to test.

## How to answer agents from your phone when they need you with Vela Term

Repo: [vlinx-io/VelaTerm](https://github.com/vlinx-io/VelaTerm) | Difficulty: Beginner | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Scan a QR code to browse your session tree and reply to agents from iOS or Android.

**Who it is for:** A developer who starts long agent tasks at a desk and wants to respond from a phone when away.

**The problem:** An agent waits for input while you are away from the computer, and the task stalls until you return.

**The outcome:** You get a push notification when an agent needs you, and you can read its replies and answer from your phone.

### Steps

1. Install the Vela Term desktop app and open your sessions on the desktop.
2. Open the remote access option and show the QR code for pairing.
3. Install the Vela Term phone app for iOS or Android and scan the QR code.
4. Browse the session tree, read the agent replies and send your answer.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Pair the VelaTerm phone app with the desktop app for the project at <project-path} by scanning the QR code shown in remote access. Expected output: the session tree on the phone with the same sessions as the desktop. Verify that a push notification arrives when an agent in that project waits for input.
```

### Caveat

Mobile access depends on the desktop app running and paired, so the phone cannot reach sessions on a machine that is off or disconnected.

Risk, credentials: The QR code pairs your phone with your sessions, so treat it like a login and do not share a screenshot of it.

Dual-use notice: only use this on software, sites and systems you own or are authorized to test.
