SLYE is a TypeScript package for Pi and Oh My Pi (OMP) that adds a plain-language rewrite card below a completed AI assistant response.

This file holds every use case of this repo. Each one starts with a "## " heading and ends with its URL.

## How to read long Pi answers faster with the ELI5 tab with Speak Like You Eat

Repo: [wtfzambo/speak-like-you-eat](https://github.com/wtfzambo/speak-like-you-eat) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Get a short ELI5 rewrite under any finished Pi answer and switch tabs to compare.

**Who it is for:** A Pi user who gets long, dense answers and needs the conclusion and next steps quickly.

**The problem:** Long assistant answers bury the conclusion, the actions, and the open decisions under detail.

**The outcome:** A plain-language ELI5 card sits below the unchanged original, starting with the conclusion and what you need to do.

### Steps

1. Run `pi install npm:speak-like-you-eat` to make SLYE available to all projects, or `pi install -l npm:speak-like-you-eat` for the current project only.
2. Wait until Pi finishes an answer, then run `/slye`.
3. Read the ELI5 tab, which is active by default on the new card.
4. Press `ctrl+\` in any mode, or click a tab in fullscreen mode, to switch to the Light tab.

```text
Using the SLYE repo (wtfzambo/speak-like-you-eat), install the package in Pi and run /slye on the latest completed assistant response in <target project>. Expected output: an ELI5 card under the original answer that starts with the conclusion. Verify that the original response text is unchanged.
```

### Caveat

On Pi each rewrite makes two provider requests in parallel, so it costs about twice as much as one version.

## How to turn on automatic rewriting for long Pi answers with Speak Like You Eat

Repo: [wtfzambo/speak-like-you-eat](https://github.com/wtfzambo/speak-like-you-eat) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Let SLYE rewrite every eligible finished answer without running /slye each time.

**Who it is for:** A Pi user who wants a plain-language card on most long answers without triggering it by hand.

**The problem:** Running /slye after each answer is easy to forget, so long answers often go unsummarized.

**The outcome:** Eligible completed answers get a rewrite card automatically, and you can pause that behavior at any time.

### Steps

1. Install SLYE in Pi with `pi install npm:speak-like-you-eat`.
2. Run `/slye model` and choose a model if no usable model is saved yet.
3. Run `/slye on` to enable automatic rewriting.
4. Run `/slye off` when you want to stop automatic rewriting while keeping manual `/slye` available.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
In the SLYE repo (wtfzambo/speak-like-you-eat), enable automatic rewriting in Pi with /slye on and then complete a long answer in <target project>. Expected output: a rewrite card appears only for answers with at least 200 non-whitespace prose characters outside fenced code. Verify that a short answer gets no automatic card.
```

### Caveat

Automatic rewriting only applies to responses that finished normally and contain at least 200 non-whitespace prose characters outside fenced code.

## How to add plain-language rewrites to Oh My Pi sessions with Speak Like You Eat

Repo: [wtfzambo/speak-like-you-eat](https://github.com/wtfzambo/speak-like-you-eat) | Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 15 minutes | Basis: From the README

Install SLYE as an OMP plugin to get a Light rewrite under finished answers.

**Who it is for:** An Oh My Pi user who wants shorter, plainer versions of assistant answers.

**The problem:** OMP answers can be hard to scan, and OMP has no built-in plain-language summary.

**The outcome:** A Light rewrite card appears below the original answer in OMP, without tabs.

### Steps

1. Run `omp plugin install speak-like-you-eat`.
2. Finish an answer in OMP.
3. Run `/slye` to rewrite the latest completed assistant response.
4. Compare the Light rewrite with the unchanged original above it.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Install the SLYE repo (wtfzambo/speak-like-you-eat) as an Oh My Pi plugin with `omp plugin install speak-like-you-eat`, then run /slye on the latest answer in <target session>. Expected output: a Light rewrite card below the original. Verify that the card has no ELI5 tab, since OMP shows only the Light version.
```

### Caveat

OMP shows only the Light version of a rewrite, without the ELI5 tab that Pi provides.

## How to set a custom Light rewrite prompt for your team with Speak Like You Eat

Repo: [wtfzambo/speak-like-you-eat](https://github.com/wtfzambo/speak-like-you-eat) | Difficulty: Advanced | Time: 30 minutes | Basis: From the README

Replace the built-in Light prompt with your own slye-prompt.md file.

**Who it is for:** A developer or team lead who wants rewrites to follow a house style for tone, format, or terms.

**The problem:** The built-in Light prompt may not match how your team wants summaries worded.

**The outcome:** Light rewrites follow your own slye-prompt.md instructions.

### Steps

1. Install SLYE in Pi with `pi install npm:speak-like-you-eat` or in OMP with `omp plugin install speak-like-you-eat`.
2. Create a `slye-prompt.md` file with your instructions, following the linked runbook.
3. Run `/slye` on a finished answer to check the Light output.
4. Adjust `slye-prompt.md` and rerun `/slye` until the output matches your style.

### Prompt to paste into your agent

```text
Using the SLYE repo (wtfzambo/speak-like-you-eat), follow its custom system prompt runbook to write a slye-prompt.md for <target style guide>. Expected output: a Light rewrite that follows that guide. Verify that the Light output reflects the custom instructions and that the ELI5 prompt is not replaced.
```

### Caveat

A custom prompt replaces only the Light version's built-in instructions, not the ELI5 prompt.
