How to start a TypeScript agent project with Mastra Studio with Mastra

Scaffold a Mastra project with one command and build and test agents in Mastra Studio.

Short answer: Run npm create mastra@latest and follow the prompts; then choose a project name and a provider such as openai, anthropic, google or xai; Enter the project directory and start the dev server. All steps.

Who it is forA JavaScript developer who wants to try agents without leaving the TypeScript stack.

The problemMost agent frameworks are Python-first, which leaves TypeScript teams wiring things together themselves.

The outcomeA new Mastra project with a dev server and Mastra Studio at localhost:4111 for testing agents, workflows and tools.

What you need first

  • Node.js and npm
  • An API key for a provider such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or xAI
  • Optional: storage for suspend and resume and memory

Steps

  1. Run npm create mastra@latest and follow the prompts
  2. Choose a project name and a provider such as openai, anthropic, google or xai
  3. Enter the project directory and start the dev server
  4. Open Mastra Studio at http://localhost:4111 to build, test and manage agents, workflows and tools
  5. Use the templates and course from the docs if you are new to agents

Prompt for your agent

Create a new Mastra project with npm create mastra@latest using <provider>, start the dev server, and build an agent in it that <describe job>. Test it in Mastra Studio and show me the result.

Caveat. Code in any ee/ directory is under the Mastra Enterprise License and needs a license for production use.
