Who it is forA developer who builds pipelines with Claude Code, Codex or Cursor and wants the agent to operate Prefect too.
The problemAgents guess at orchestration APIs without project-specific instructions.
The outcomeAn agent connected to Prefect through a plugin or MCP that can create, run and inspect flows.
What you need first
- Python 3.11 or later
- pip or uv
- Optional: a Prefect Cloud account instead of a self-hosted server
Steps
- Install with
pip install -U prefect - Follow the agent setup guides to connect your agent to Prefect through plugins or MCP
- Point the agent at the agent-readable setup index (llms.txt) for plain-text guides
- Ask it to build a flow and start the UI with
prefect server startto check the runs - Use prefect-client for lightweight access from ephemeral environments
Prompt for your agent
Using PrefectHQ/prefect's agent setup guides, connect yourself to my Prefect server through MCP, then build a flow that <job>, run it, and report the task states.
Caveat. This card is written from the PrefectHQ/prefect README, not from a test run by Deduped. Before you start, make sure you have Python 3.11 or later. Check the repo for newer instructions before you rely on these steps.
Use this in your AI agent
Ask your agent
Using the Deduped MCP, get the setup steps for PrefectHQ/prefect and "Let your coding agent build and run Prefect workflows"
