Who it is forCurious beginner who heard about free CAD and does not want to install anything
The problemTrying a CAD program usually means a large install and an unfamiliar interface.
The outcomeYou sketch, extrude and resize a simple solid in a browser tab within minutes.
What you need first
- Windows, macOS or Linux desktop, or just a modern web browser (no install needed)
- Rust toolchain only if building from source
- An MCP-capable agent such as Claude Code only for the agent-driven uses
- No paid keys or accounts
Steps
- Open the browser app linked from the README.
- Start a new design and draw a sketch on a plane.
- Extrude the sketch into a solid.
- Edit a dimension in Parameters and watch the solid rebuild.
Prompt for your agent
I want to learn the basics of SolidCraft in the browser. Give me a 5-step exercise to sketch, dimension and extrude a small box with a hole, using only features listed in its README.
Caveat. The browser build runs the same commands as desktop, but very large designs may feel slower in a tab than in the desktop app.

More with solidcraft
- Let an AI agent model a part you can still edit Steer an agent through the built-in MCP server and get a real parametric model, not a mesh you can't fix.
- Open and re-export STEP, STL and 3MF files Import a model from another tool and export it as STEP, STL, 3MF, glTF or URDF where supported.
- Check how a small assembly moves before building it Combine parts with joints and run a motion study to spot interference before you print or machine anything.
- Design a 3D-printable case for a dev board Follow the README's Raspberry Pi style workflow: dimensioned sketch, shell, standoffs, port cut-outs, then export for printing.
- Design a bent sheet metal bracket and get its flat pattern Use flanges, hems and fold/unfold to model a bracket, then read out the flat pattern for cutting.
- Watch an agent build a model live in the open app Connect the MCP server to your running SolidCraft window so you can see each modeling step as the agent makes it.
- Generate a STEP file from a JSON command script Run a saved JSON command list from the CLI so the same part can be rebuilt on demand, no GUI.
