OpenAI is bringing its frontier models and Codex workflows to Google Cloud. They will appear in Google's Model Garden and be sold through Google Cloud Marketplace, so customers can buy them the way they buy other cloud services. Google says it is now the only large cloud provider offering all three leading closed LLMs, alongside more than 200 other models.
Three models are named: GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna. Google describes Astra as built for demanding work in coding, computer use, professional tasks and scientific research. Sol offers near-Astra intelligence at lower cost, and Luna is a fast, cost-efficient option for everyday work at scale. Customers can swap models per workload based on performance, latency and cost.
The rollout starts as a private preview for select enterprise customers, with general availability planned in the coming weeks. Marketplace purchases can draw down existing Google Cloud spending commitments. OpenAI models are also coming to Google's Antigravity development environment and Gemini Agent. Local Codex CLI and Desktop workflows can connect to Google's platform for inference.
On governance, Google cites data-perimeter controls, no training on customer data, VPC Service Controls and unified audit logging. Zero Data Retention options and Confidential Compute are still planned. OpenAI says Microsoft remains its primary cloud partner. This follows OpenAI's earlier expansion onto Amazon Web Services. What we read gave no pricing and no exact launch date.
Our take
The model race is turning into a distribution race, and OpenAI is putting its models wherever enterprises already hold their cloud budgets. Google gets to sell a rival's models next to Gemini, which tells you how much customers now demand choice.
