Who it is forA developer using Codex or another Agent Skills agent who wants the skill scoped to one project without a manual copy.
The problemSetting up a skill by hand means finding the right folder for each agent, which is slow to repeat across projects.
The outcomeThe skill is copied into the project for the chosen agent, and the next request can invoke it by name.
What you need first
- A coding agent that supports Agent Skills, such as Claude Code or Codex
- Git installed for the Claude Code path
- Node.js 22.20.0 or later for the skills CLI path
- A local project to run the skill against
Steps
- Confirm Node.js is version 22.20.0 or later
- Run in your project folder:
npx [email protected] add Ai-Eastern/reuse-before-build --skill reuse-before-build --agent codex --copy -y - Replace
codexwithclaude-codeor another agent name if you use a different agent - Open the project in your agent and mention Reuse Before Build in the first request
- Check that the agent cites the files or sources it read before it chooses a decision
Prompt for your agent
In <project-path>, use the reuse-before-build skill to add retry support to the existing HTTP client. Check existing code, tests, and relevant decisions first, then show what can be reused, what needs verification, and the smallest next step before editing. Verify the answer names the files it read.
Caveat. The README lists paths for Cursor, Gemini CLI, and other agents in a compatibility guide, so setup for those hosts may differ from the Codex command shown.
Use this in your AI agent
Ask your agent
Using the Deduped MCP, get the setup steps for Ai-Eastern/reuse-before-build and "Install the skill into a Codex project with one command"
Add Deduped to Claude Code once
